00:00Relief from extreme heat began to reach areas of Western Europe during the weekend, bringing
00:06cooler temperatures and thunderstorms after days of record-breaking heatwaves.
00:13Germany reported a maximum daytime temperature of 24 degrees Celsius on Sunday, while Spain
00:19and Italy also saw temperatures averaging around 27 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius.
00:27In Belgium and Luxembourg, buckets of rain fell as temperatures took a dip and clouds
00:33dominated the sky. The cool-off came as a big relief to many as severe heatwaves in Southern
00:40Europe have caused temperatures to rise above 40 degrees Celsius. As the deadly heatwave
00:47moved east, meteorologists warned that the danger is however far from over. On Sunday,
00:53officials in Germany issued warnings of spreading forest fires on the border between Saxony and
00:59Brandenburg as firefighters battered flames that broke out last week. While in Portugal,
01:06authorities put two-thirds of the country on high alert for extreme heat and wildfires.
01:12According to the World Meteorological Organization , we will have to learn to live with more frequent
01:19and intense heatwaves as a result of climate change.
01:28The BRICS bloc of developing economies condemned the increase of tariffs and attacks on Iran,
01:33but refrained from naming US President Donald Trump directly at their summit in Brazil.
01:40The bloc issued a declaration in which they raised serious concerns about the rise of tariffs,
01:45which it said threatened to reduce global trade, disrupt global supply chains and introduce uncertainty.
01:52In their 31-page declaration, the group took aim at Israeli military actions in the Middle East,
01:58spared its founding member Russia from criticism, and mentioned war-tron Ukraine only once.
02:03If the international governance does not reflect the new multiple reality of the 21st century,
02:12the BRICS should contribute to its actualization. Its representation and diversity
02:20make it a force capable of promoting peace and preventing conflicts.
02:26Despite Brazilian President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva's push to spotlight issues such as
02:34artificial intelligence and climate change at the summit, it has been marked by the absence of
02:39several key leaders. This includes its two most powerful members, Chinese President Xi Jinping
02:48and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
02:58Authorities said that the death toll had risen to 82 following flash floods in central Texas,
03:03which ripped apart the area and washed homes off of their foundations.
03:10Texas' governor said at least 41 people are confirmed to be missing.
03:15This includes 10 campers and a councillor from a Christian summer camp.
03:20He also warned that more heavy rainfall, expected to last until Tuesday,
03:25could lead to more dangerous conditions in the area.
03:30U.S. President Donald Trump signed a major disaster declaration for the affected region,
03:36saying the families had endured an unimaginable tragedy.
03:39The Guadalupe River surged more than eight meters in just 45 minutes on Friday,
03:46destroying homes, camps and vehicles.
03:50Texas authorities used helicopters, boats and drones to look for victims and missing people.
03:56Officials said over 850 people were rescued in the first 36 hours.
04:01authorities faced growing scrutiny over whether enough warnings were issued in an area vulnerable to flooding.
04:12They defended their actions, stating they had not expected such an intense downpour,
04:18which was equivalent to months worth of rain for the area.
04:21As Polish checks on the border with Germany and Lithuania restart on Monday, regional tensions
04:31deepened amid an illegal migration crisis. Warsaw reintroduced the emergency checks along its
04:36western and northern borders for 30 days as per EU laws and regulations, adding that they may be
04:42renewed if necessary. 52 sites along Poland's border with Germany and 13 with Lithuania will be
04:48subjected to additional scrutiny and inspections. Over the weekend,
04:52Poland's Interior Minister Tomasz Szimonyak said Warsaw is prepared to scrap its checks if Berlin
04:57reciprocates. He added that Germany had initiated border checks back in October 2023. Tensions soared
05:04over the management of the borders, with Poland saying more than 11,000 migrants were pushed into
05:09their country from Germany between January 2024 and February 2025. German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz says
05:16he is willing to work with Warsaw to address the issue. The increased checks come after the numbers
05:21of illegal migrant crossings spiked in what Germany, Poland and Lithuania say is a move orchestrated by
05:26Russia. They accused the Kremlin of manufacturing a crisis by funneling thousands of migrants into EU
05:32territory via Belarus. The Greek islands of Gavdos and Crete continue to be under pressure from the massive
05:42flows of illegal migrants. According to Greek authorities, more than 750 migrants were intercepted in the sea
05:50area south of Gavdos in operations under the supervision of the Joint Coordination Centre for Search and Rescue.
05:59The largest operation was recorded off the southeast of Gavdos where 430 people on board an overloaded fishing
06:07vessel were recovered with the cooperation of a Coast Guard patrol boat and a tanker flying the flag of Panama.
06:16Local officials describe the situation on the island of Crete as suffocating as thousands of illegal
06:22migrants continue to pour in on the island. More than 8,000 illegal migrants have been reported.
06:29This year, according to official records, an increase of over 250 percent compared to the same period
06:36last year.
06:55Accord is for couples and families who simply want less stress and more harmony in their day-to-day lives.
07:02And there's a really interesting sociology study showing that when families divide chores more
07:11fairly, each family member's stress levels reduce drastically and communication improves.
07:21And this eventually leads to happier relationships and better relationships.
07:29We've already seen among Accord users that the gap has shrunk dramatically for the people using the app.
07:52So before Accord, these women were generally doing twice as much as men did.
08:01And with Accord, the gap has been reduced by 60 percent if we look at the gender balance.
08:08So it's not like all the way there, but we see a huge improvement there, which is really fun for us.
08:17I think that it has been a really big difference.
08:34Now there are tydliga upgifter that are distributed and all of them have taken care of for that they should take this.
08:43So I'm going to leave the project leader and be the person who is thehenity.
08:48All the time can you ploy the disk machine, can you do that?
08:51Can you do that?
08:53Now can my family and my sambo do things without I need to be the person the power to initiate.
09:59To swim in the sand, yeah.
10:29The key is that the water quality in the sand is highly variable.
10:34There are only a few days in a swimming season where I would say water quality is acceptable for swimming according to the regulations currently in place.
10:47All we can say is that we can raise a hand and say, look, the science today does not support the current assessment of water safety used in the rivers around Paris.
11:00And we think that there is major risk that is not being captured at all.
11:04We wait for people to jump in.
11:09We will see what happens.
11:10And if nobody gets sick, then I'm convinced and I will jump in.
11:12Until then, we wait and rest and just enjoy the view.
