00:00Today's episode will be on the usage and benefits of hitting the heavy bag.
00:21Hello there, this is Pat Barry with Barry's Boxing and FitBuilders.
00:25FitBuilders is a YouTube channel dedicated to building fit people.
00:29In today's episode, we're going to have EJ come and show us how to properly hit the heavy bag.
00:34The heavy bag is probably the most underused piece of equipment in most boxing gyms.
00:38Yet, it has so many benefits. You can develop your technique and form.
00:43You can build up your hand speed. You can build up your punching power.
00:47You can build up your endurance. You can build up your stamina.
00:50There's so many versatility necessary, or not necessary, but beneficial from hitting the heavy bag
00:56that I can go on most of the afternoon.
00:59We're going to bring EJ out here now and let him get started.
01:02Initially, I start every student with the basic punches.
01:05Then we transfer him over to the heavy bag where he can actually perform the punches on a solid object.
01:12The heavy bag has so many different usage. It can, I explained just prior to contact,
01:17how you instinctively close your fist and turn your punches over.
01:21I explained the importance of keeping your wrist straight and locked
01:25while you allow the power to propel through your body out through the fist.
01:29The heavy bag builds muscles. It gives you the proper stance.
01:32Your form and the execution. Your stamina. Consistent and persistent work ethic.
01:37Coordination. Repetition of form and technique.
01:40It helps you with your leg work. Movement of legs and delivering the upper body movements
01:44and putting punches, the power behind your punches.
01:48Circling the bag. Hand speed. Consistent bursts of punches. Defensive movement.
01:54Sidestepping the bag. Pivoting and rotating upper body parts.
01:57Neck, shoulders, waist. Strengthens your hands, wrists, biceps, forearms, thighs, calves, and ankles.
02:04It defines and enhances. It enlightens your imagination.
02:08Which is so essential in having a good heavy bag workout.
02:11So remember, if you want to be called a heavy hitter, hands of stones, cinder blocks for fists,
02:16any of these monikers, you've got to spend time on the heavy bag.
