00:00Talk to me about a particular Seattle Mariner pitcher and his tendencies.
00:05Look, Brian Wu has been terrific and efficient.
00:08And we always talk about this, right?
00:09The pitchers who don't walk guys put themselves in good positions to win.
00:13You can give up some hits, right?
00:15But when you kind of self-impose the danger, that's when bad things happen.
00:19And a lot of pitchers, I think, could learn from Brian Wu.
00:22And Brian Wu is somebody that might not be throwing the ball 100 balls an hour,
00:26but he is somebody that knows how to pitch.
00:27And Brian Wu has gone at least six innings with two or fewer walks
00:32in all of his first 16 starts in 2025.
00:36That ties Clayton Kershaw from 2016 for the longest streak
00:39to begin a season by a pitcher under the age of 30.
00:42So this young man last year had a really good part of a season.
00:46And the hope was, can he drag that over into 2025?
00:49Can he build on that?
00:50And the answer has been yes.
00:51So George Kirby spent some time on the IL.
00:54Logan Gilbert spent some time on the IL.
00:56And then there's Brian Wu, who's been the stalwart in this rotation.
01:00And the fact that he goes out there, and you know he's not going to put extra guys on base.
01:04You know he's going to get the job done.
01:05He's going to give you a quality start.
01:07I mean, that's just been huge for the Seattle Mariners and huge for fantasy managers as well.
01:11So it's just kind of a little pop here for the lost art form of pitching.
01:16When last we left you, we talked about Chase Burns on the show last weekend.
01:19I said, hey, incredible live arm.
01:21He's going to be a very exciting pitcher to watch, but he's more of a thrower than a pitcher.
01:25And I tried to point out all those reasons in that first start against the Yankees, why I thought that.
01:30And then that next outing, he didn't get out of the first inning.
01:33And that shocked a lot of people, except for me.
01:36And I think the Brian Wu is the kind of pitcher where you're looking at and you're saying, okay, here's a guy that understands the art of pitching, how to move the ball in the strike zone, how to find outs in the lineup, and how not to hurt yourself.
01:49Right?
01:50This max velo world that we live in, sometimes we get a little bit too enamored of.
01:54And it's pitchers like Brian Wu.
01:57And I don't know if the Mariners are going to fall out of things here.
02:00I mean, they're kind of struggling there a little bit to stay at pace with the Astros as everybody is in that division.
02:07But Brian Wu is just like, I just said, I want to give him some love.
02:10I want to shout him out here a little bit because I don't think people realize how good he has been.
02:13And if you're talking about, you know, trying to bet first fives, right, when Brian Wu is on the field, guess what?
02:18The Mariners are going to be in that first five and it's going to be a lot of unders and a lot of good situations for them in the first five innings of the game.
