00:00Right boys, let's vote in the dressing room, not expect adult professors at all times, obey my instructions, watch your resume campaign, any questions, let's go to work.
00:09Ten rounds, lightweight division, former World Super Featherweight Champion, Joe Cordina, returns.
00:19That stoppage defeat, shocking stoppage defeat, really, to Anthony Kakache, what a win it was for Kakache, and look at the momentum.
00:29And he's had, that was back in May last year, July 2025, Cordina returns, Barry, and he returns at this weight, and he wants to be a two-time champion.
00:42Well, first of all, this is his real weight anyway, he turned towards the lightweight, he went on the Super Featherweight to get the opportunity for the popular world title,
00:49because the lightweight title was congested, did the right thing, but it was always a struggle for him making Super Feather, this is where he belongs.
00:54But he's been out for a long time, he's an unknown quantity, who on paper can punch a pad, so it's about just being safe in the early rounds, that's all.
01:03Don't do anything silly, you've got a lot of experience, you've got a lot of ability, a lot of skill, you can figure a style out in three minutes, have a good look.
01:10And what of this, Jarrett Gonzalez-Quiroz, he's only 24, first ten-rounder, but he's won his last few, only one defeat on the record, he was stopped by Hector De Lares in three.
01:24Does that show a problem in the resistance, in the chin department, or is Joe Cordina in for a really tough night here?
01:36Yeah, just need to have a look, as Barry says, get your timing, get your distance, went out the ring a long time.
01:42Oh, beautiful.
01:44Shades of the Agawa knockout there.
01:46Yeah, and what a knockout that was, a crisp right hand from Joe Cordina there, Sammy.
01:52Yeah, you see the little burst of pace, caught Gonzalez a little bit off guard there, he's looked quite sprightly on his feet though, with nice light feet.
02:00Gonzalez and a couple of heavy hands with some of the shots he's thrown, so I do think Joe, with a good success there, he does need to stay switched on about what's coming back.
02:08Yeah, certainly, when you've got something like a rhythm puncher, like Juarez there, it'll go punch really fluently, so obviously he's naturally heavy-handed,
02:15he turns, you've got to just stay nice and compact, and you've got to make sure your punches come back as fast as they go out.
02:2213 knockouts on the record for Quiroz, and being so much younger and fresher, the ambition there, body shots, good combinations, Darren, coming from the Mexican.
02:34Yeah, springing his step, moving, he'll be trying to have a look as well, obviously he'll know about the quality and the past achievements of Joe Cordina,
02:43but he looks confident, doesn't he? I must say as well, Cordina looks big, he looks solid, certainly brought that hand speed back up to lightweight, quick hands demonstrated by Cordina.
02:56He had a good chat with Joe in London a few weeks ago, he was absolutely bursting to get back, he's been training at home really,
03:04with Gary Lockett, brilliant former fighter and excellent trainer, good jab from Cordina, trying to hold centre ring here,
03:12and slow down Quiroz.
03:14Yeah, it's been a nice, easy, controlled approach here from Cordina, have a good look, but still making sure he's doing enough to win the round.
03:50and you're looking sharp, right?
03:52Fence as well, side to side out and out again instead of standing tall, right?
03:56We'll figure this kid out now in a couple of rounds.
03:58You're just a little bit rusty, that's all.
04:00Okay.
04:01Moving around.
04:02There.
04:07Okay, just keep the hands up a little bit.
04:09You don't have things to do the other day.
04:14The Welsh wizard with the rocket man, Gary Lockett.
04:18The other left hook he had back in the day.
04:22And a right hand there from Joe Cordina.
04:24Honey punch of his, of course.
04:27How's he going to fare?
04:30In the nine stone, nine lightweight division.
04:33Second of ten here.
04:35Wales against Mexico, experience against youth.
04:39The quality we know of Cordina, former Olympian, brilliant amateur.
04:44One of the best fighters that Wales has produced in recent times.
04:48How much has the Kikachi defeat taken out of him?
04:53Sonny, do you think a long layoff as well or did he need that?
04:56I think after a defeat like that, because it was a savage performance from Kikachi.
05:03He did everything right I felt that night.
05:05And, you know, I questioned how the weight process for Cordina for that fight was.
05:11Because when I was up close for the Rakimov fight, I was thoroughly impressed with just how much physical toughness and resilience Joe showed that night against a heavy puncher.
05:23But that same resilience just didn't seem to be there against Kikachi.
05:27What went wrong, Darren, that night?
05:30I don't want to take nothing away from Kikachi.
05:33He just had the fight of his life, didn't he?
05:35He really, really did perform well.
05:37Punching very, very hard.
05:40There was that little bit of controversy, if you remember.
05:42But he just didn't recover from it, did he, Cordina?
05:45But look, I'll tell you what, he started this second round really, really well on the front foot.
05:50Starting to get in the rhythm behind that lead hand.
05:52It depends on how Guarda's punches, because they could walk him down, as I think he can do here, because it's better in general shape.
06:03If he can block and counter, then you can be a little bit braver.
06:07But if he's too heavy-handed, you don't want to be taking those shots on the gloves even.
06:10So if he can block through this here, walk him down, give him more physical presence.
06:15Good defence from Cordina, ring generalship.
06:18I think that's a great phrase.
06:20I think that's what he is all about, Joe Cordina.
06:23He's got super skills when he uses them correctly.
06:27That jab and the way that he judges distance, Sonny.
06:34Yeah, right now I feel like he's just leading the dance.
06:36And I think the rhythm of his feet and how often he's changing his balance and taking control back of his feet.
06:43Oh, that was a better shot, though, from the Mexican.
06:46But I think up to that point in this round, he's just doing a good job of controlling the range, controlling the pace of the fight.
06:52And that's what you can't do with them, actually.
06:53You can't just stand there in front of them, because they will fire away.
06:56So when you do get close, you've got to take the exit to your right or your left.
06:59Not even a pivot, just a little step. That's all you need to do.
07:02This is what you've got to do more of, Quiroz, just be more proactive, let your shots go, be first.
07:11Good right, though, lovely counter shots. The right hand left hook from Cordina, brilliant stuff.
07:16And he throws that shot so well, like you said, Darren.
07:19The shot he threw when he won the world title, he throws it so well.
07:23Looks really matured, isn't it, here? Second round Cordina. Quiroz lively and sprightly entices the Walshman's round.
07:53The shot he's coming up, doesn't he? It's a good shot.
07:58Yeah, it was close, man.
07:59The back of the good shot.
08:02The down is amazing. But not when you put it together.
08:03The down is amazing. You know, when you put it together, you don't move.
08:05You can't even do anything. You can't fight it, so shots.
08:09It's a good guy, so shots, right?
08:10To see if you get locks. Bang, bang. At the middle, run the sides.
08:13Welcome back.
08:14In the corner.
08:16Gary Lockett.
08:18In the corner with the instructions for Joe Cordina,
08:22who's in with Jarrett Gonzalez, Quiroz,
08:25and the Mexicans have been savage of late.
08:29Sonny, you and I were there for Galalia Fai's defeat
08:32to Francisco Rodriguez, and it was a hard watch,
08:35and he was ever so good, wasn't he, Rodriguez,
08:38in that smash-and-grab in Birmingham?
08:41Oh, he was phenomenal, the punch that he put up,
08:44nothing but impressive, but lovely left hook lands there
08:48for Joe Cordina.
08:50But yeah, just a very, very hard night for Galalia
08:53against a very, very good world-level fighter in Rodriguez that night.
08:56That was really good work that was from Cordina,
08:58he threw the straight right to the body, changed the levels,
09:00he got the reaction from Quiroz, who dropped his hands
09:03and threw the left hook.
09:04He's starting to go through the gears a bit here, Adam, Cordina.
09:07He really is, good movement of the feet, in and out Cordina.
09:13Brilliant work, and Quiroz tries to come back,
09:17but you can see the Goldfin class when he uses that stiff jab, Cordina, in and out,
09:25and I think it's just a matter of time before he finds that right hand, the range.
09:31And that's what Gary Locker was asking for, just a bit sharper with that jab,
09:34he'll be a bit more forceful with it.
09:36You've had a good look, though.
09:37You've had a good look, though.
09:38You've had a good look at the wrong side of the look.
09:39You've got the experience, though, to be able to start implementing what you've seen,
09:42and start just taking control of the fight a little bit better.
09:45And it's almost like Gonzalez is backing up a little bit,
09:48probably because the ring generalship has been so impressive with Cordina,
09:52but it's like when he's jumping forward Cordina, he's trying to throw with him there,
09:56so that's just a bit of area of danger, I think,
09:58because it's almost like Gonzalez is trying to walk him onto that big left hook.
10:02And I think Quiroz as well, he's sort of fighting all step back, step back,
10:05and then jump in and then attack.
10:07Body shot.
10:08There's rhythm that way.
10:09Yeah, body shot from Quiroz,
10:11but Cordina comes back with maybe the heavier-looking artillery,
10:16nine knockouts on his record, Quiroz has got 13,
10:19he's won his last five, the Mexican, but it is a big step up for him,
10:23and Cordina just looking in control here.
10:27Yeah, look, the 13 knockouts on the record of Quiroz have come at a level,
10:31levels way below a Cordina.
10:36So I don't think Cordina will mind Gonzalez-Quiroz throwing his hands,
10:40look, someone who's got the speed, the know-how,
10:43the ability to counter-punch as quick as Cordina can,
10:46you want someone letting their hands go.
10:51Just get a little bit lower there for Joe Cordina.
10:53You see he had to retreat there, so he's pushing Quiroz back,
10:56doing the right things, and then when he attacks his feet,
10:59you're doing it, again, sensible, no treatment,
11:02you double step at your feet.
11:03But if you just get a little bit lower, that's only one step,
11:05because they're going to punch over the top of you,
11:07or you'll stop punching if you give him a smaller target to aim for.
11:11really fainting as well now, Cordina, and you can see the reaction,
11:17the jittery sort of reactions from Quiroz.
11:21It won't be long until you really see Cordina throw off them.
11:25They're good shots, though, from the Mexican.
11:27Fighting fire with fire at the end of that round.
11:31Well, ripening up this one, Cordina and Quiroz.
11:36But it's the main event we cannot wait for here on DAZN.
11:42Jack Catterall against this guy, undefeated, Harlem Eubank.
11:51The cousin, of course, of Chris Jr. carrying the name.
11:54Suddenly a very different Eubank, isn't he?
11:57Yeah, I feel like this week, though,
11:59we've seen a little bit more of stereotypical Eubank fashion.
12:03I feel like Harlem, a very, very nice kid.
12:06Very, very dedicated.
12:07Any time I've spent around him, he does 100%.
12:10He tries to take all the small, small margins.
12:14And I don't know, I think this could be a night
12:16where he's really looking to break out at him.
12:18Good young trainer in Charlie B.
12:20You can see Kieran Malloy there as well.
12:22They've got a great stable and they're very, very confident.
12:26of success.
12:28Malloy undefeated as a professional.
12:31Eubank undefeated.
12:33Charlie B, good trainer.
12:35Interesting to see the tactics into the fourth round of this.
12:39WBO global title, whatever that is,
12:42on the line in the lightweight division.
12:45It's more about the return of Joe Cordina
12:47and how he deals with Jarrett Quiroz here.
12:50Quiroz has come out with all guns blazes in this round,
12:53really had his hands go.
12:54He had success at the end of the round.
12:56I don't think it buzzed Joe at all,
12:57but I just think maybe he's thinking,
12:58you know, if I can get him to fire with me,
13:00I've got a chance here.
13:01Yeah, he's definitely responding, isn't he,
13:03from that little spell he had at the end of that third round.
13:06And I think, again with Joe, it's just about,
13:08again, just semi-soak him on the bottom.
13:10He can double-jab his way in
13:12and then use the different angles of attack then,
13:14rather than just be squared on in front of him.
13:17That's a beautiful jump.
13:19Oh, it's a lovely jump.
13:20Ramrod shot.
13:21And that's why it's great to watch at times.
13:23Cordina and Quiroz out of range with his own.
13:27Quiroz turned professional December 2017.
13:31And he was only 17.
13:36Good body shot from Cordina,
13:38but I would like to see him being a bit more weary
13:41or a bit more doing a better job at hiding his way in.
13:44He's coming in at the same pace over and over again,
13:47I think, right now.
13:48And it's just getting a little bit closer,
13:50these shots from Kiroz.
13:52And Quiroz has a hard rhythm to read, if you like.
13:58He sort of moves and jerky, yeah.
14:01And all of a sudden he's jumping with some shots.
14:03So it will take Cordina rounds, I'm sure,
14:05but Quiroz, he's dangerous for sure.
14:10Yeah, he's fast and he's awkward, isn't he?
14:13How strong is he?
14:14How tough is he?
14:15Down the stretch, Cordina working the body now,
14:18just with the more meaningful shots, Joe Cordina.
14:25Pushing him back's one thing.
14:27Getting involved in a bit of a tussle,
14:29there's no need for him to do that.
14:30He has better technical skills.
14:33I mean, he's got good enough vision to see the shots come in.
14:36I mean, Kiroz, he jumps into his attacks
14:39and you've just got to be aware of that, that's all.
14:40You stay low and faint plenty of times,
14:42I think you'll be okay.
14:44I think there's signs that Joe's got far better footwork
14:47than his opponent here.
14:49But like I said, I would like to see him make his opponent
14:51come over the front foot a bit.
14:52He's a fantastic counterpuncher, Joe,
14:54and he can counterpunch with power.
14:56But right now, he's constantly ascending forward.
14:59He's constantly closing the gap down.
15:01And he's letting Kiroz sort of dictate the pace a little bit
15:04from when they're mixing.
15:06Super right hand again from Cordina.
15:10His legs are moving well.
15:12He can see the Olympic rings on the back of his left calf.
15:16A proud man, Joe Cordina.
15:18I would say, though, Sonny, even though I sort of agree with you,
15:21you don't want this guy, the way he's a rhythm puncher,
15:25coming at you constantly with big shots?
15:27I know, I definitely agree with that, but I just think the only...
15:31The real danger here for me is when Joe's throwing,
15:35if he gets caught.
15:36Let's get over to Charlie with our brilliant guess.
15:40Thanks, Adam.
15:42Tia, how have you got it so far?
15:43Joe returning to the ring.
15:45His opponent still looks dangerous, though.
15:47What would you like to see Joe doing a little bit more?
15:49I think he's doing great at the moment.
15:51He's on the front foot and I just think he's landing the cleaner shots.
15:55But I think at the moment he's doing everything right.
15:58Jordan, a return to the ring, an old stable mate of yourself.
16:00How are you assessing his performance in there so far?
16:03It's a beautiful performance.
16:05I mean, Joe is one of the purest, most natural talents
16:07I've ever, like, trained on the side.
16:09So just seeing him, he's been out of the ring for a little while as well.
16:11So I think the first couple rounds, he was just data collecting,
16:13but now I think you're seeing him come into himself,
16:15putting some real clean work together.
16:17And I feel like he's definitely got a beating in these guys.
16:19I don't think he can match him for skill,
16:20so he's trying to turn it into a bit of a dogfight.
16:22But it's a great performance so far.
16:23I've got Joe miles ahead.
16:25And Josh, lastly to you.
16:26What are you making of what you're seeing there from Joe Cordina?
16:28Yeah, Joe, I've got him up four rounds at the minute.
16:30I think, like I say, Joe's boxing is just far superior to Gonzalo,
16:33so keep it up, Joe.
16:34Cheers, guys. Back to commentary.
16:36Yeah, really interesting.
16:38Everyone thinking Cordina, the better guy.
16:41Kieros is slightly and lively, and he comes out for these rounds fast.
16:46Good shots.
16:47And big shots as well, and he's really putting a lot together.
16:51And Cordina just caught on the ropes and having to fight back with him.
16:56I think Kieros just got to stay at that pace now.
16:58If he can maintain that, and then when he gets close to Cordina then,
17:02just try and take a little step and throw his right hand over the top.
17:05But then Cordina throws a jab and puts him back in his place.
17:08Can he keep this going, Kieros, or is it just raids?
17:19And he's being made to work quite hard here, Kieros,
17:21because he's having to punch to keep Joe off him.
17:24He's constantly forcing the pace with his movement and closing the gap down.
17:29Trying to make the ring small.
17:30I think he's doing a great job of doing it so far in this round anyway, Cordina.
17:34Yeah, he's got to try and sustain that, Kieros.
17:37Just keep the tempo high.
17:40When it's like this, you just favour Cordina quite strongly.
17:44He's got loads of space behind him to be able to take that step back.
17:47Any shots that are coming his way.
17:49And when Gonzales, Kieros does let his hands go,
17:53I wouldn't trade, just move, get behind the jab, use your own feet,
17:57and stay out of trouble.
17:58I think Cordina just felt he hurt Kieros slightly about 20 seconds ago, Sonny.
18:03Yeah, I felt like I saw the first couple of little maybe warning signs
18:06that the pressure from Cordina and the accuracy might be getting to Gonzales a little bit here.
18:12Oh, lovely shot.
18:14Crunking left hook there from Joel.
18:16Just went to throw the jab and just spinning around the back of the glove there.
18:19Yeah, the quality of the shot's starting to show here.
18:22Good uppercut though.
18:23And again, another burst from Kieros, but the quality not quite the same.
18:29And you said it earlier, Darren, those knock-outs at a much, much lower level.
18:33And this is one.
18:35Oh!
18:36Both of them going at it.
18:37Cordina just seemed to get tagged.
18:39Dipped his legs in.
18:40Cordina dipped his legs for sure.
18:42If you're going to throw the left hook as an orthodox fighter,
18:45you have to make sure your right hand's up.
18:47Uppercut from Kieros.
18:49Just felt he hurt Cordina.
18:51So both feel they've got success on the right hand now from Kieros.
18:5545 left in the round.
18:57And his corner beckoning him to go for it.
18:59Body shot.
19:00Back comes Cordina with a body shot.
19:02And the turner producing the best action of the fight.
19:05But he weren't moving his feet too much there.
19:07Joey held his feet.
19:09Took a couple of shots that he maybe didn't need to,
19:11but a back on the ascendancy.
19:13He's pushing Kieros back.
19:15Kieros hasn't got the engine to work away
19:17because he's hurt Cordina there.
19:19He just can't make it pay.
19:21Right hand body shot.
19:22Back comes Cordina.
19:24And has Kieros punched himself out here?
19:27Good shot.
19:28Cordina with heavy, heavy artillery.
19:31And he feels now that he's got himself back together.
19:35Having been stunned a little there, Cordina.
19:37What a round in Manchester.
19:40All right.
19:44Listen.
19:45You won the round, but you walked on the one.
19:47Yeah.
19:48Listen.
19:49You've got to keep your hands up.
19:51You can do that.
19:52Right?
19:53Let's do it sensibly.
19:54Instead of doing it like a wild man.
19:55OK?
19:57Right.
19:58How do you feel?
19:59What?
20:00He loves to keep it calm, doesn't he, Gary?
20:02He's right.
20:03He did win the round, but he didn't get caught.
20:05Yeah, he did.
20:06The pressure.
20:07You've got to have to understand it.
20:08He's right there.
20:09The basics you learn as an amateur, as a young kid.
20:12The right hand's got to stay up when you throw the left.
20:14It's got to stay on your chin.
20:15And there it's just a little bit loose.
20:17But you know, he was in the ascendance, and I can understand why that happened.
20:20Took that shot very well.
20:21I thought that was a clean left hook whilst he was throwing.
20:25He was blinded by his own work there, Joe.
20:27But one of the very, very few better fighters in Britain that can stay calm in the fire.
20:32I love Gary Lockett staying calm in the corner.
20:35He really does.
20:36Just walked onto him in there.
20:38That's what he said.
20:39He won the round.
20:40He just walked onto him.
20:41Absolutely.
20:42Just checking everything's OK.
20:44Second half of this one.
20:46He's been...
20:47Well, he's been fiery.
20:49Jarrett Gonzalez-Kiros, as we expected.
20:52He's won 17 of 18.
20:54Just like Joe Cordina.
20:56Bit like Fiazza Murphy.
20:58Matching records.
20:59But in this one, Cordina at the much higher level.
21:02Yeah, and Kiros...
21:03No, good advocate there from Kiros.
21:04He hasn't got the engine.
21:05No, he hurt Joe and he just couldn't jump on him.
21:08And if that would have been the other way round, Cordina would have been all over him.
21:10And that's maybe experience or just better fitness.
21:14One thing I like what Joe does as well.
21:16When his opponents letting their hands go in front of him.
21:19He sinks down to the body very quick.
21:22He changes the target of attack.
21:24And when he's just been caught, he'll bow on his gum shield and just try and work the body in.
21:28I think a lot of the time, it breaks up the attack.
21:31Body shot from Kiros.
21:33He's not done.
21:34He might be losing these rounds, but he's having his moments in the fight.
21:38It's a big opportunity, this, for the 24-year-old.
21:43Cordina needs to keep his concentration.
21:46And keep it long, Adam.
21:47I think you can let your combinations go.
21:49Step in behind the double jab, throw the long right hand.
21:51I don't think he needs to be hooking with Kiros.
21:54Because that's when he has his best opportunities.
21:57As we see with that left hook, he landed in the previous round.
22:00And utilise that experience he's picked up, the former world champion.
22:06He's a family man.
22:08A couple of girls and a boy.
22:10There's plenty happening in the Cordina house.
22:13It's busy.
22:14For the most part, I was sort of saying, Kiros should be doing more work.
22:20He's just too sparse, the effort that he makes.
22:25But Cordina is walking him down, not giving him much escape.
22:28He's not giving him much opportunity to mount an attack.
22:31Beautiful four or five jabs there, Sonny.
22:34Yeah, and the whole time his right hand was cocked.
22:37And he's constantly half flirting with the idea.
22:40It's almost like he's shaking it.
22:41Sometimes he'll shake it and stop, shake it and stop.
22:43But then a right hand just like that comes out of it and it bursts.
22:47And it's hard to read that.
22:49It's the difference in speed.
22:51The reactions as well.
22:53Favour Cordina, that's why you just keep it long.
22:55He'll struggle for the remainder of this fight if he does that, Cordina.
23:00Good shot.
23:07He just did his legs as well, just changed the height.
23:12Rolling the punch up with that left hand.
23:14He's a beautiful crossman, Barry, isn't he, when he's at his best, Joe?
23:18He is, he is.
23:19But also as well, as you saw in the last round, can be a little bit gung-ho.
23:23And Anthony, listen, you need a little bit of that magic to get the job done,
23:26which he's done in the past.
23:31And I feel like if Joe Cordina wanted to, he could walk heroes on shots all night.
23:36Just got everything back under control, like Gary Lockett wanted.
23:40Listening to instructions, Joe Cordina.
23:43He's going to be mature, mature and sensible.
23:46And that's what this guy's got to do tonight.
23:48Jack Cattrall needs one of those performances which reminds us that he is world-class.
23:57Maybe he should have become a world champion against Josh Taylor first time around.
24:02That controversy.
24:03He got the job done the second time.
24:05Got the job done against Regis Prodray, but it went wrong against Arnold Barbosa Jr.
24:11Just skipping in the dressing.
24:13We don't often see that, Darren.
24:15Every now and again, nice to see Tommy Coyle sat on the sofa there.
24:20Tommy was there last week in Hull, and what a night it was.
24:26He was an exciting fighter, wasn't he?
24:28Yeah, he had plenty of wars.
24:31We miss him.
24:32Ten-rounder here, the hors d'oeuvre before that main event between Cattrall and Eubank.
24:42Live on the zone, a fantastic July in store.
24:46I don't know what you're looking forward to most, Sonny.
24:48It's absolutely brilliant, isn't it?
24:50Oh, no, and I can't even pick a fight right now, but the main event, oh, just like that was a great shot.
24:56I think the main event after this is going to be an absolute cracker.
24:59I'm looking at González Guerrero's as well and thinking, like, what are his keys to success at this stage of the fight now?
25:04And I think it's trying to drag Cordina into a bit of a war.
25:07You've seen when he walked him onto that hook a couple of rounds ago, it's when he got Cordina to trade with him.
25:13So I think he needs to be busy, try and be a bit more aggressive.
25:16When Cordina, as I say, he's keeping it long, he's having it all his own way.
25:21When Cordina keeps his hands up, his elbows tucked in tight, when he maintains that shape,
25:26Guerrero has no entry to get any success.
25:29It's all about if Joe makes a mistake then.
25:31So for me, though, it's just all discipline for Joe.
25:34Four rounds left.
25:35You want to try and get the finish if you can, but sensible.
25:38If you don't get the stoppage, you don't get it.
25:40Just be sensible with your approach.
25:41There's bigger fights ahead for you.
25:43But if you lose, there's no fights ahead for you.
25:46Now, Kiros has won his last five, and he still will fancy the task.
25:53He knows that Cordina can be stopped, but the class with Cordina, if he can stay out of trouble,
26:02and that's the problem. Kiros has got the fast hands.
26:05But that's throwing that body shot.
26:07What Gary Locker said, leaning back with a chin in here.
26:11He doesn't make any mistakes, Joe.
26:13He doesn't make any mistakes when he makes them.
26:15They're big, aren't they?
26:16And it's usually when he's punching, he's chasing that extra last bit of work.
26:19Is he trying to really impress though, Sonny?
26:23That's the thing.
26:24Yeah, but I feel like sometimes that want and desire to impress can leave you in a sticky situation
26:30where he's flowing so much right now, and he's seemingly in so much control.
26:34Why give probability away at this stage of your career?
26:37I think that's exactly what it is, Adam.
26:40I think he wants to impress.
26:41He wants to remind people what they've been missing.
26:43But it does give Kiros the opportunity to land a big shot.
26:48But on the flip side, it makes it very exciting.
26:51It's a fight he's not losing.
26:52It's a fight he's really readily comfortable on the cards.
26:55There's only flashes of danger really, and that's the truth of it.
26:59I'm with you, Barry.
27:00Just get the win.
27:01Stay disciplined now.
27:02Stay switched on.
27:03Focus.
27:04Don't make any silly mistakes.
27:06Get the win and move on.
27:08Yep.
27:09It's all about getting that activity, the momentum going again,
27:14reminding the world what we've been missing.
27:18And there's definite class of Jordina.
27:21Body shots were good.
27:22Kiros hurt there.
27:23Just folded.
27:24And a right hand from Jordina.
27:26Big moments for the Welshman.
27:28And Kiros very much packed up.
27:30And there's a shift then.
27:32He's got to see Cam and his approach.
27:33He'll put the foot on the gas, but not reckless.
27:35Bell comes.
27:36Kiros needed it.
27:37Back to his corner.
27:38And he was well there, Sonny.
27:39And he got there before his trainer as well.
27:40You could see, you could see the genuine pain in his face when that body shot landed from Joe.
27:49And again, it's where he's having so much success throughout the fight.
27:53As soon as he gets his feet down quicker and lets those body shots go, he often gets to the target before Quiroz can even maneuver his defense.
28:01He did a really good job as well, making the ring really small.
28:04He didn't jump in.
28:05He didn't follow shot.
28:06He just kept close to him as close as he could, found his feet again and went back to work.
28:10Good exchange there from Joe Cordino.
28:12Yeah, it was a really good shot, wasn't it?
28:14He shortened it up.
28:15He went through the middle of the guard instead of going round the side of the elbows.
28:18And you can see the reaction, he dipped Quiroz, but he managed to survive.
28:22He held on and landed a right hook there, but a really, really good shot from Cordino.
28:28Yeah, sweet work from Joe Cordino just to get Jarrett Gonzalo, Quiroz, back into his box because he's been sprightly at times.
28:38He's hurt the Welshman.
28:41Nine minutes to go.
28:43Is he just going to box sensibly and get that W?
28:48Or will he try and excite to see the statistics there?
28:52The percentage, the punches thrown, landed all in Cordino's favor.
28:57He's winning it by a mile on the card, surely.
29:00So, yeah, it's a stick or twist, isn't it?
29:04Yeah, and even though there has been some success from Gonzalez,
29:07I do think that Joe Cordino has done a very good job at stamping it out quite quickly.
29:11Every time he's had a clean shot or landed, he's got control back relatively quickly.
29:16So I don't think there's too much you could be looking at giving Gonzalez for this fight so far.
29:21And that's go down to that, we said ring generalship, you know, just understanding where to be at the right time.
29:25And just a little just when your feet just close things down, don't they?
29:28It's the ring IQ, Darren, isn't it?
29:31Yeah.
29:32Being that great amateur to British Commonwealth, the world champion.
29:36This is a really good package Joe Cordino has.
29:39So much know-how.
29:40And I think just backing off for that, you've got to give Quiroz Gonzalez a lot of credit.
29:45If you look at that punch stats there, only 28% have landed from Cordino.
29:50And with all of what we've just said, the quality, etc, does show you he's had a knack here, Quiroz Gonzalez,
29:56of getting out of the way and staying out of trouble.
29:58That's not easy against someone as classy as Cordino.
30:01Both have been hurt at times, but both still very light on their feet, and Quiroz with a body shot.
30:11Quite punch hard enough, maybe.
30:14Just not often enough, I think, as well.
30:16He's made Joe respect the power a little bit, Cordino, sorry.
30:20Respect the power a little bit, but he just hasn't been able to go again.
30:25There's no phase two, phase three of the attack.
30:27Which is surprising.
30:30Because the Mexican fight is normally a non-stop, and maybe saving a bit for down the stretch.
30:36Left hooks are dangerous, and in the eighth round, Quiroz still having moments.
30:43He does not need to be trading left hooks with Quiroz, Cordino.
30:48Does not need to be doing that.
30:50On the flip side, that's exactly what Gonzalez wants.
30:53Because, yeah, right now, that looks like the only percent where Joe Cordino might not win this fight.
30:58It's only when he's opening up and staying there.
31:01But I still think he did a good job.
31:02He took the shot well, and he ended the boss of the exchange, I thought.
31:06And one of Cordino's enjoying this, the boxing, and a bit of fighting as well.
31:12And the right hands of Quiroz, and he's still a danger here late on in the fight.
31:19And Cordino's got to be careful.
31:21That's better from the Welshman.
31:23Yeah, a bit of meat in our right-hander here from Cordino.
31:26Just keep those hands out, those elbows tucking as tight as you can, those hands high.
31:30And just turn the body into the shots.
31:33Inside your body frame with every punch.
31:36Let's get over to Charlie to see how the three guests have it.
31:42Thanks.
31:43Thanks, Adam, here with Tia.
31:45Last time we spoke, it was one-way traffic.
31:47Been a few turbulent moments in there.
31:49Does Joe just need to ride this out to get the win now?
31:51Yeah, I think that he's definitely going to get the win.
31:54His jab and body shots eat from the center.
31:57Jordan, at times I've been watching through my fingers a little bit.
32:00Trading maybe a little bit unnecessarily like they've been saying.
32:03The left hooks, what have you made of it?
32:05I think Joe's brought the belt out, in my opinion, man.
32:08He's picking him apart now.
32:09He's putting together the cleaner work.
32:11And I think he's slowed down a little bit, the other guy.
32:13And again, he's just trying to turn it into a dogfight.
32:16And Joe's matching him and beating him in the other departments.
32:19So Joe's running away with it, in my opinion, man.
32:21Josh, there's always going to be that element of ring rush.
32:23But enough here.
32:24Joe just needs to shut it out.
32:25Yeah, I think he's settled down now.
32:26He's boxing well on the outside.
32:27And obviously, like you say, he's realized that the Mexican danger is on the inside.
32:30And he's playing it safe, but he's good for Joe.
32:33Cheers, guys.
32:34Tyr and Jordan have it by seven.
32:36And a shutout on Josh Padley's guard.
32:39Darren, do you agree?
32:40Yeah, he's winning the fight.
32:42You would say relatively comfortable,
32:46bar a shot here and there from Gonzalez when he switches off.
32:51More comfortable than you can say comfortable.
32:53Yeah, I struggled there.
32:55I'd say that's 23 years of getting pucks in the head, that is.
32:58And the last few years being around you, Barry.
33:00Yeah.
33:01I think that's worse.
33:02Barry still wants anything else.
33:03Sammy, what do you reckon?
33:04Every round or pretty much?
33:05It's...
33:06I mean, he's had his moments, Keros.
33:08He's played his part.
33:09Yeah, I think sometimes the way the judges seems quite interesting.
33:12But I think, with Cordino winning maybe three, four, five rounds clear in a row,
33:18then rounds where the bigger shot might be and a bit of a closer one.
33:22Some of those might go against Cordino, just for the way I feel like judges often score fights.
33:27But I do think he's in a comfortable lead here.
33:30Low there from Keros.
33:32Joe just looks at referee Marcus McDonald.
33:35I'm sure he'll want to give a couple back, knowing the Welshman.
33:39But Gonzalez Keros is still desperate to try and find a way to take home this WBO global title.
33:47More importantly, if he can get a victory over Joe Cordino.
33:50His own career just absolutely takes off.
33:54But it's got to be a knockout now, Barry.
33:57Yeah.
33:58I've just been saying it all again, just a little bit lower for Joe.
34:02He's only got to widen his stance, just a little bit lower.
34:05It just makes him a hard attack at the final.
34:07I think punching up for him would be much better.
34:10It really faints.
34:11He dips low and he punches up with the jab and it's a beautiful punch.
34:16He just likes throwing that left hook a bit upright, doesn't he Joe?
34:20Yeah.
34:21But I think that's how he sort of gets that last bit of power out of it as he squares his shoulders a bit.
34:25But if he's low with it, he can almost, when you've got more turn your balls, you can almost chop down with it.
34:30Throw over, yeah.
34:31Yeah.
34:32A bit like what Keros is doing when he's throwing somebody's hook.
34:34Yeah, yeah.
34:35Nice shot reaction there.
34:37Just shook his right hand, Kordina.
34:39Wonder if there's a slight issue there.
34:41Back behind the jab.
34:43And here comes Keros again.
34:45Backing up Kordina on the ropes.
34:48I think that's more of an idiosyncrasy or whatever it's called.
34:51It's sort of a habit.
34:52What?
34:53Idiosyncrasy.
34:54It's a great habit.
34:55Good job from Kordina.
34:58Back comes Keros.
35:00He's really giving it a shot.
35:02He's switched off a little bit here, Joe Kordina.
35:05But you know the Mexican's going to have to come.
35:08He's going to have to start throwing the kitchen sink a little bit.
35:11His corner getting more animated.
35:13There's more punches coming out.
35:14Good body shot though.
35:15That was beautiful.
35:16The right uppercut followed by the left to the body.
35:19And the roll.
35:20And the roll after as well.
35:21Which he should be doing all the time.
35:22Do you think that's so exciting?
35:24Is he going to play with Joe's hands-on if he comes right down to him now?
35:27Oh, I think, like you said there, the way he's rolling under.
35:32He's got to time the roll rather than just staying low.
35:35Give him the target and take it away.
35:39We're all the best round there, Adam.
35:41Yeah, I thought Keros Pots really won the times in that one.
35:44Crisp work from Kordina, but Keros late on and surprisingly
35:50in his first tenth rounder against a former world champion.
35:54Yeah, yeah.
35:55Let's stick to the basics, Joe.
35:56Don't walk into anything stupid, right?
35:58Listen, I know your time is out, your speed is out,
36:00but you've got too much for this kid.
36:01Let's not do anything stupid now this last round, OK?
36:04Two weeks to go.
36:05A fortnight today, the biggest fight of the year.
36:082-6 against Dubois.
36:10The rematch undisputed heavyweight championship of the world.
36:16Saturday, July the 19th.
36:19Live on DAZN, exclusively on DAZN.
36:22Cannot wait for fight week.
36:25It's going to be absolutely electric.
36:28I'm sure Joe Kordina will be down there,
36:30he's just got to get this win.
36:32He'll be a mile ahead on the three judges' cards
36:35from Luxembourg, Poland and from England.
36:38Jared Gonzalez, Keros surely needs the knockout,
36:41but he may be saving the best for last, the Mexican.
36:45Yeah, and he's come out with a lot of ambition,
36:48Joe right in the centre of the ring,
36:50but straight away gets caught of a couple.
36:52Got close there with that left hook, though.
36:54This is exactly what you need after over a year out of the ring.
36:57You know, a good, decent ten rounds under your belt.
37:01Do you know what?
37:03It's not just about finding your range and your distance,
37:05it's about reminding you about what it's like in the pressure,
37:08the stamina, you know,
37:10when we go back and listen to instructions in the corner,
37:13all that sort of stuff.
37:14And Gary Locke is brilliant
37:15because he treats every fighter like it's their first fight,
37:19so he's telling them all the basics.
37:20I mean, he's a world champion, why are you telling them that?
37:22It's the right thing to tell them, isn't it?
37:24But if he was in here tonight against someone
37:26he could have just rolled over in one or two or three rounds,
37:28he would have missed out on all of that.
37:30He wouldn't have shaken off the rust,
37:31he wouldn't have known really how far back he was.
37:34I think it's a really good match, this, for Joe Cordina
37:38to move back into boxing under the spotlight
37:42on a big show against a very tough
37:45and admirably brave and committed opponent
37:50in Gerrit Gonzalez, Kiroz.
37:52He's not going to win this fight
37:54unless something dramatic happens later on,
37:57but he's been a really good test for Cordina
38:00and a good jab again for the Welshman
38:02and it's probably just what he needed.
38:05Can he be a big impression on this lightweight division?
38:09Can he win a world title again?
38:11Maybe, but it's a tough ass for anybody
38:13because it's a really, really hot division, it still is.
38:15But going back to the Mexican,
38:17his first ten round league is a former world champion,
38:19and look how good he's been.
38:21Yeah, do you know what?
38:22I'd rather have him back in a heartbeat.
38:25No shot.
38:26Yeah, it's been a really good performance from Kiroz,
38:29but Joe Cordina has had the class and the IQ
38:34and the generalship
38:36and now he's just putting his foot on the pedal.
38:39Kiroz coming apart slightly but just so game, Sonny.
38:44Yeah, and you can really see clear signs that
38:46at slight levels below this.
38:48Kiroz could be a real handful,
38:49but Joe Cordina is a world class fighter.
38:52On his best, very, very hard to beat.
38:55Imagine fighting a world class fighter in your first ten rounder.
38:59Absolute madness.
39:00At 24.
39:02That's unbelievable.
39:03Yeah, he's put a great shift in tonight,
39:06he can be really proud of himself.
39:08Yarrick Kiroz, but Joe Cordina will stay out of trouble surely
39:13for these last 20 seconds or so.
39:16Kiroz has got to go for it.
39:18Cordina back with a couple of hooks and a right hand.
39:21Again, really good action.
39:23These couple of fights have been with Akin Fiaz and Alex Murphy
39:28and these two, Cordina and Kiroz,
39:30have given the Manchester crowd really good ten rounders.
39:35Falls to his knees, Kiroz.
39:37A big hug of respect.
39:39Excellent night's work for both of them.
39:43Joe Cordina will get the win.
39:45But I tell you what, Jarrick Kiroz can be very proud of himself.
39:49We'll have him back and Cordina can move on just what we needed.
39:53Yeah, do you know what?
39:54I've been a number of boxes being ticked there.
39:56Like you said, the opponent there, Kiroz,
39:58he'll get opportunities off the back of that.
40:00Showed that he can fight and he's willing to get in there with anyone.
40:03Barry said, former world champion, first ten rounder.
40:06Gary Lockett just looking at me is safe.
40:10He was tough, wasn't he?
40:12But yeah, and then look, Joe Cordina's got the rounds.
40:15He would have brushed off some of those cobwebs
40:18and he can move forward into big, meaningful fights
40:22where potentially, you know, some sort of eliminator or something
40:25because he'll be desperate and hungry, Barry,
40:27to get back to fighting the title.
40:28Yeah, and because I thought it was a decent performance,
40:30but for his level and for world level, it wasn't a world performance.
40:34So nobody at world level is going to be shaking in their boots
40:37and that'll do him a favour because they'll think,
40:40ah, he's passing sell-by date now.
40:42Or, that's an opponent for me, perfect opponent.
