Thousands gather to bid farewell to Liverpool's Diogo Jota, brother André Silva at their funeral

The funeral proceedings of the late football players Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva took place in the church of Gondomar in their hometown in the east of Porto. Family members, teammates and coaches joined thousands of mourners to pay their final respects to the Silva brothers.

00:05gathered in his hometown of Gondomar to pay their final respects.
00:09Jota, who played for English side Liverpool, died alongside his brother, also a footballer,
00:14in a car crash in Zamora, Spain, while on their way to catch a ferry to the United Kingdom.
00:19Spanish authorities say a tire in Jota's car blew out as he attempted to overtake a vehicle on the A52 highway.
00:25The Portuguese star's Liverpool teammates joined mourners in his hometown,
00:29located in the east of Porto, to attend the brothers' funeral.
00:33Several of Jota's national side teammates, including Manchester City's Bernardo Silva and Ruben Diaz,
00:38as well as Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, also attended.
00:42National team coach Roberto Martinez, who led Portugal to their second UEFA Nations League title last month
00:48with a win over Spain, was also present.
00:51National team captain and football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, however,
00:54was notably absent from the event after sharing an emotional tribute a few days ago on social media.
01:00British media outlets say Ronaldo opted to skip the funeral,
01:03citing concern his presence may distract from the somber proceedings.
