India Doesn't Negotiate Under Deadlines, National Interests Come First: Goyal on US Trade Talks

On Congress MP and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi's remarks on India's trade negotiations with the US, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal says, 'India does not negotiate under deadlines, we negotiate keeping national interests in mind. National interest is paramount in all our work across the world... Today India negotiates with a position of strength, we are self-confident and can compete with anyone in the world. This is not the India under UPA rule, which would beg for negotiations not under national interest... Nobody takes Rahul Gandhi seriously anymore because of the negativity he, his colleagues, and his party consistently spread. They have lost the confidence of the people of India, who have time and again rejected the Congress. Till today, they have not been able to come up with any positive agenda for the development of the nation...'&nbsp;

00:08We negotiate keeping national interests in mind.

00:11And national interest is paramount in all our work across the world.

00:17We have entered into free trade agreements after the Modi government came in with Mauritius,

00:23with the United Arab Emirates, with Australia, with the four-nation EFTAG grouping,

00:33Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland, now with UK last month.

00:40And we continue to work with other developed nations like the EU bloc of 27 European countries,

00:47with the United States, with Oman, with Peru, with Chile.

00:52Today, India negotiates from a position of strength.

00:57We are self-confident.

00:58We can compete with anybody in the world.

01:01This is not a weak India under Congress and UPA,

01:06which would negotiate and make agreements which were not a national interest.

01:10Sir, sir, sir, Mr. Priyank, how do you say today that Modi will bow down in front of the U.S.,

01:18whereas he will also let down the U.S.?

01:19Well, nobody takes Mr. Raul Gandhi seriously anymore because of the negativity that he,

01:27his party and his colleagues are continuously spreading.

01:31The falsehoods that they are spreading, I think they have lost the plot.

01:35They have lost the confidence of the people of India, who are again and again rejecting the Congress Party and their politics.

01:45Till today, they have not been able to come up with any positive agenda for the development of the nation.

01:54Even in Karnataka, their government is completely collapsed.

01:59It's a hotbed of corruption.

02:01It's a government which is fighting amongst themselves every single day.

02:06I hope Mr. Raul Gandhi can control his own party and his own governments

02:11because he has only barely a handful of governments left.

02:14The way he is going, his negativity will only lead to the people rejecting him,

02:20even in these states which he has left, got left.
