At least 24 fatalities have been confirmed as a result of flash floods along the Guadalupe River in Texas, Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said on Friday (July 4).

Emergency crews continue search and rescue efforts, as heavy rains caused the river to overflow rapidly, sweeping through homes and campsites in the area.

00:00Thunderstorms and torrential rain triggered deadly flash floods along the Guadalupe River
00:06in south-central Texas on Friday, particularly in the Kerrville area,
00:11killing at least 24 people and leaving over 20 girls from a summer camp missing.
00:17Emergency crews continue search-and-rescue efforts as heavy rains caused the river to
00:23overflow rapidly, sweeping through homes and campsites in the area.
00:27The extreme flooding struck before dawn with little or no warning,
00:32leaving authorities no time to issue evacuation orders.
00:35I want to tell you all that we will be working around the clock 24-7 until every person is found.
00:42We're not going to be giving any names out at this time. We're still notifying next to Ken.
00:46Also, I've been notified one fatality has been found in Kendall County.
00:51I cannot say it's related to this incident at this time,
00:55but we'll let you all know when we find out more information.
00:58We want to make sure we get information to families as quickly as we possibly can.
01:03But most importantly, we will stop at nothing to ensure that every asset and person and plane and
01:14whatever is needed is going to be involved in the process of rescuing every last person
01:20and ensure everybody involved in this is going to be fully accounted for.
01:27The Guadalupe River rose rapidly from 7.5 feet to nearly 30 feet overnight
01:31and is expected to crest at 34 feet in Spring Branch.
01:35As the river surged, cars, campers, and mobile homes were swept away in the floodwaters.
