00:00The government has imposed provisional anti-dumping duties ranging from 3.86% to 57.90% on certain
00:10iron and steel imports from China, South Korea and Vietnam. The Investment Trade and Industry
00:17Ministry said the duties will take the form of bank guarantees, effective for up to 120 days
00:24starting July 7, pending a final determination by November 3. This follows a preliminary
00:30investigation on February 6 into flat-rolled iron or non-alloy steel products coated with zinc
00:36using the hot-dip process, commonly known as galvanized steel coils or sheets.
00:42Local steelmaker CSC Steel Sandiran Berhad had lodged a petition claiming that imports from the
00:48three countries were being sold below their domestic market prices, causing losses to
00:53Malaysian producers. In a statement, the ministry said there was sufficient evidence to continue
00:58with further investigation on the importation of the subject merchandise from China, South
01:03Korea and Vietnam at dumped prices. It added that the provisional measure was necessary
01:08to prevent further injury to the domestic industry. Companies and exporters affected by the decision
01:14have until July 14 to submit feedback. A final decision will be made by November 3.
