00:00With the fireworks going on in Big Bear the biggest concern we have is for wildlife in
00:09general but also for the eagles because the the loud booming startles them obviously when the
00:16eagles, Jackie and Shadow, have left in the past and been gone for a few days to several days and
00:23and if they're doing that when the the eaglets are still in the area still needing training it
00:31lowers their chance of survival for the first year which is already iffy and so we don't want to have
00:38that kind of damage going on. Also if they get startled at night eagles have very poor night
00:44vision so even for Jackie and Shadow it's dangerous for them to be flying at night but
00:50but birds that are new to flying not just the eagles but hawks and others that are juveniles
00:56hanging out there making them fly at night creates danger from them running into something running
01:03into the road running into a tree it's just why do we have to do that it just is traumatic it's
01:09traumatic for pets people have seen that more pets run away on July 4th than any other time of year
01:14um it's traumatic for uh veterans for elderly people it it just it it seems like there are lots of
01:23better ways you know like the drone shows that are quiet that but still have the lights there's
01:29light parades there's things we could do on the lake with light parades and and it it just makes
01:35more sense to do things that would be kind to everyone. There's an organization called Visit Big Bear
01:41that's the Tourist Bureau but they are um I guess in partnership with the Rotary Club up here that
01:48have been doing it for years and you know the city and other agencies and it's kind of a big
01:54conglomeration um of who decides but basically they don't want to change that at least so far they just
02:02keep saying that they um want to uh compromise with tradition over conservation or you know I don't
02:12know exactly I haven't been able to understand but um they're very determined to not change the
02:19fireworks on July 4th they have changed them on Memorial Day or on Labor Day but they will not
02:25change them on July 4th and I part of it is the economy and they're worried nobody will come up but I
02:30think it's the opposite I think a lot of people would come up that want the quiet a lot of people
02:36would come up because they're honoring nature because they're you know doing other things that
02:42you can't see elsewhere I I think that it's um you know kind of old-fashioned or something that
02:51that they don't see all the new things that could be done and make it much more beautiful.
