00:00it was kind of like something pulling him pulling him away from uh you know that sadness
00:05i'm your new dad you're that's yeah yeah we've talked about this that was so i'm your daddy yeah
00:12hi i'm kate from cosmopolitan philippines it's so nice to see you and first of all congratulations
00:22on the new series we were liars is fantastic i finished the episode in one the series in one
00:28sitting so really so good yeah awesome i just kept going because of the twists and the secrets you
00:35know the truths the lies everything but yeah my first question for today is for emily um cadence
00:43is such a layered character at times she represents freedom sometimes grief sometimes uh most of the
00:50time it's the weight weight of the of the family legacy of the sinclair name on her that influences
00:56so much how did you tap into those layers while preparing for this role i'm curious if like are
01:03there changes mentally and physically that you tried to um incorporate into her character well i think
01:10you know when we talk about a layered character we usually talk about um we're usually saying that
01:20that uh you know a woman is layered when she goes through something um that is not just kind of uh
01:27parallel to how the story starts and how it ends and it doesn't kind of go into the motion of
01:32well she could fit this box right because i don't think that cadence in any sense is a hero nor do i feel that she's a villain
01:39but i do believe that she can carry tendencies of hero villain and um what's the third uh and victim
01:50um so i think that but i think that that's just something that is inside of all of us you know um
01:59cadence is a flawed character and i think that a lot of her uh a lot of the things that we see um on screen
02:09where she's kind of uh blissfully unaware about a lot of the struggles that gat goes through and uh kind
02:18of just like who her family is and what she's standing for without saying you know without realizing
02:23she's standing for quote unquote yeah um i think that's very powerful because you know for a
02:29character to character to be redeemable after you've kind of seen them in that light is is a really
02:34complicating thing and i just think that cadence was is like all of us in that sense um to an extent
02:43so yeah i i liked it was sometimes hard because you want to just play the good guy all the time
02:49but i i really loved how this was written and i really love the book because cadence is not just
02:54one thing for shubham my question is um cadence and gats relationship is full of tension and also
03:01tenderness what do you think fuels cadence and gats connection despite all the complications around
03:07them is it just they're each other's first love true love or is there something more i think it's that
03:12i think it's a little bit of that i think it's also just uh well there's this interesting thing that
03:18i don't know if i i may have told you about this too but i think uh the way i kind of like to think
03:22about it is gad lost his father when he was eight years old and that was the same summer same year he
03:28went in the summer he went on beachwood island and he met the liars and he met uh cadence and it was
03:34it was kind of like something pulling him pulling him away from uh you know that sadness
03:40i'm your new dad you're that's yeah yeah we've talked about this that was so i'm your daddy yeah
03:45yeah that's all that's basically what this is sorry i just replaced my dad with with cadence
03:51um but but no it was it was um it was that escapism thing you know which is kind of like
03:56what the sinclair's do too on on beachwood island it feels like yeah um and for him in a way it kind
04:01of was like that and i think meeting cadence at that time and yes like you said young love and stuff
04:07like that they she kind of became an anchor that keeps pulling him back to beachwood every summer
04:14and uh and then they're young and they're in love and uh it's all that basically yeah given the
04:19strong and passionate fan base of we were liars from the book what aspects of the series do you
04:25think book fans will love the most like what's the standout aspect of your series i think it's our
04:32location like i see emily allen lynn uh the show it's gonna be that too uh thank you yeah i'm gonna go
04:43with uh yeah you and um the our location yeah no for sure dude um our location uh we filmed in nova scotia
04:53um and we you know all of it was real we weren't filming on sound stages and i think that
05:00that for me you know us as actors we just felt so much more connected uh being able to really be
05:08there in this very desolate hauntingly beautiful um uh atmosphere all of the time you know it really
05:17put us into our characters and what it would feel like but at the same time i think it really transfers
05:22on to what you see on screen it's not like any other um show i feel like you know it's just so
05:31special um and that's because we were filming in locations that you know no one's ever filmed
05:38and we got to you know so i think that that really um i think nova scotia and where we were filming is
05:45halifax is is a character um itself in our show my last question for the both of you
05:51if you had to capture the connection between all the liars johnny marion cadence and gab in just
05:58three words what would it be and why steve's comfort comfort and that passion did you say
06:08that oh that's you're crazy yeah so that's like and pat there's a lot yeah there's a lot of words to
06:15describe them all right thank you so much let's just thank you thank you bye
