Birmingham City Council is proposing upgrades to four parks in Castle Vale as part of its ongoing efforts to address unequal access to green spaces across the city. The improvements are part of the larger “City of Nature” initiative, aimed at creating a network of 1,000 green spaces. With funding from various sources, residents have the opportunity to voice their opinions on the plans through a public consultation before it closes on July 11.

00:00Castlevale's parks have been left behind for too long.
00:07Now the City Council is proposing upgrades to four green spaces.
00:11Hawker Drive, Blenheim Way, Spitfire Way and Centre Park.
00:15These spaces are functional but far from what Castlevale residents deserve.
00:19The aim here is to make them genuinely useful for the people who live in the area.
00:23Not just patches of grass with outdated equipment.
00:27This is part of Birmingham's broader City of Nature initiative launched three years ago
00:33which aims to transform the city into a place with 1,000 green spices.
00:38The ambition is simple but ambitious to make sure these spices aren't just ticking boxes
00:43but are accessible and well maintained for people in every part of the city.
00:48Castlevale with its history of underinvestment has long missed out on the attention other areas have received.
00:54But now it's one of six wards earmarked for significant improvements between 2022 and 2027.
01:01The upgrades are funded by a combination of sources, community infrastructure levy funding,
01:06City of Nature grants and money raised by local community groups.
01:10While the funding is there the real test will be whether these improvements meet the needs of the community.
01:15Castlevale's residents deserve more than just basic parks.
01:20They deserve spices that encourage outdoor activities and community engagement.
01:25A public consultation is currently open allowing residents to voice their opinions on the proposed upgrades.
01:32The council says these improvements are in response to local demand.
01:36Now it's up to the community to make sure those promises are kept.
01:41In fact...
