07:16Simon, in the few days you had, how did you celebrate your Giro victory?
07:21In the few days you had, how did you celebrate your Giro victory?
07:25Yeah, not that much, actually.
07:29No, I wish.
07:32I will save that for later in the year.
07:35Just some relaxing days with the family.
07:38Like I said, already I was on the way to a training camp.
07:43So it was a quick turnaround.
07:46Yeah.
07:47For you.
07:48For Simon.
07:49Simon, is there any difficulties with riding for a captain like Jonas
07:55when you have not started the race together as teammates yet?
08:00Good question, actually.
08:01I mean, it's also, yeah, you are right.
08:03I've never really done that role, to be honest.
08:06I mean, I'm not, let's say, afraid to do that role.
08:10I think I can do a really good job.
08:12But it will be something new for me.
08:15So we'll see how that goes.
08:17Earlier in the year I was supposed to race with him in Catalonia,
08:23but I think after his setback there in Pyrenees, it didn't come true.
08:27So, yeah, that's how it goes.
08:30We'll make it work.
08:32Yeah.
08:33But what are your impressions of Jonas?
08:36You've been, you just told, on the altitude camp together.
08:40So what are your impressions and what kind of guy is he to work for, you think?
08:46Yeah, I mean, so far it's been quite good.
08:49I mean, like I said, I've only really been with him on certain training camps.
08:53Yeah, really in senior and only at the start of the year,
08:56in December or January, I was with him.
08:58So actually not that much.
09:00But, yeah, really easy person to work with.
09:03Relaxed, but very professional.
09:06And just does all the details.
09:08As you would expect from somebody of such a high level.
09:11Yeah, it's a race with him.
09:13I'm actually quite looking forward to it.
09:15You know, to race with such a big champion like that,
09:17it's always an honor, really.
09:20Yeah.
09:21Well, the noise in the team, I suppose, is on other riders.
09:26So, Jonas, Simon, Matteo.
09:28Does that help you on your goals and focusing for the tour?
09:32Does that give you a bit more freedom to just do what you want to do?
09:36I don't completely understand.
09:38What was the first part of the...
09:39The focus.
09:40The noise.
09:41The focus.
09:42I don't know.
09:43Okay.
09:44Well, it doesn't really matter.
09:47From inside the team, I feel, yeah, there is a nice balance in between the goals we have.
09:53And I also feel supported in the goals we chase with me in this Tour de France.
09:58So, yeah.
10:02And also, yeah, I'm not afraid of pressure because it's always there.
10:05So, it doesn't really matter.
10:07Yeah.
10:08Question for Val.
10:09Do you think there will be a kind of classic perfume on the first week with the X stage,
10:14the narrow road?
10:15Is it kind of a similarity?
10:17Yeah.
10:18I'm quite sure it will feel like a classic some days.
10:22Because, I have to say, the course is really interesting.
10:27There's a lot of stages with tricky finals where attacks will happen for sure.
10:33And, yeah, of course, the mountains will decide in the end.
10:41But, I think the first week is already really crucial.
10:45And, yeah, it will be nice for a guy like me to have a course like that.
10:51Yeah, it's time.
10:53I can ask him back.
10:55Yeah, it's good.
10:56One.
10:57And, yeah.
10:58In this Tour, do you see that as two different rounds of Frankrijk, the first and then the second
11:03and then the second?
11:04What is your function, your role?
11:09Yeah, it's probably more than the last few years.
11:12It's a lot of spliced parcours.
11:14Where it's been a long time to come to the Ooggeberg.
11:18So, yeah.
11:20That's a bit different than what we've been recently.
11:23It's a bit different than what we've been in the beginning.
11:27And, yeah, it's the mindset itself.
11:29The last few years started we always with the same goal in the Tour.
11:33And, yeah, that's now not different.
11:35Yeah.
11:36What opportunities do you see for yourself in the first ten days?
11:40What chances are there?
11:42You don't have to do with the mass sprints.
11:45That's all.
11:46Yeah, I think that my chances are the biggest in the last few years.
11:51Like the R2 and R4, there are many in the first week.
11:57So, that's a bit where I focus more on the focus.
12:00And, yeah.
12:01Later will it maybe a bit out of the flight.
12:03Yeah.
12:04Question for Wilde.
12:06Last year you were on a high level in the Vuelta
12:09when you already had the two in the legs.
12:11This year you've run and the Giro.
12:13Are you confident that you can reach the high level in this tour
12:16with the second Grand Tour?
12:18That would be nice.
12:20It was also a little bit what I was thinking after the Vuelta last year,
12:25that it went pretty good to do two Grand Tours.
12:28So, for sure it was also a question from my side to the team
12:32to do both Grand Tours this year.
12:35But, yeah, you never know.
12:37So, yeah, it's not science always.
12:40A lot of science nowadays, but you cannot predict everything.
12:44Yeah.
12:45Well, you've got some good memories in the north of France
12:48with your allergies and so on the Ventoux.
12:52What does it represent this place for you in your eyes?
12:55Which one?
12:57Here?
12:58The north of the France and also the Ventoux.
13:00Oh, yeah.
13:02Of course, you're mentioning two of my most memorable wins, I would say.
13:09Calais was pretty special with winning in the yellow jersey
13:13and also the Ventoux is something that really sticks.
13:16So, yeah, it's pretty fun that we visit both areas in this Tour de France
13:22and, for sure, it will cross my mind when we pass it.
13:26Yeah?
13:27Well, we remember what you did for signing in the Giro
13:32at the beginning of the victory.
13:34With the team you have for this tour, with a lot of climbers,
13:39what is your role in the mountains?
13:43Maybe less important or pacing for the first call?
13:50How do you see that?
13:53We'll just take it how it comes.
13:56Yeah, never really planning that.
13:58For sure, it's a lot more climbing power in the team than I have for myself.
14:05So, for sure, I will not be the last guy to work.
14:08But, yeah, it will be interesting if they still let me in the break or not.
14:15Yes?
14:17Well, do you feel it's different to have already a Giro in the legs?
14:23Is it different to your feeling and your performance?
14:27Yeah, at this point it's hard to say.
14:33I feel well rested after the last week, especially with a few extra rest days due to the illness.
14:39So, yeah, I feel the same.
14:44But, yeah, it will be easier to answer this after the Tour, yeah.
14:50I think it's not about me to criticise other teams' tactics.
15:05I think we had a very, very good idea and tactics that day and that helped Simon win the Giro.
15:14And our opponents maybe didn't have the optimal tactics.
15:18But I think this race was won by this guy here putting out incredible power on the Col de Finestre.
15:27That's made him win the race and, yeah, tactics also, of course, always play a part and everybody does their own ones.
15:35And I think we had very good ones.
15:36Could that have an impact on the chairs too, kind of, mentally?
15:41Yeah, we hope so, but I think it's not going to happen in the Tour.
15:45Yeah?
15:46Also regarding maybe in that area, do you think this year's Tour de France is going to be one mano-a-mano?
15:54Or do you think it's actually the teams that's going to win the Tour de France this year?
15:59Yeah, I think what Jonas said before, also I would mention now, you're not winning the Tour without the team.
16:05But then on the other hand, I think a lot of times the Tour de France is won by the strongest rider overall.
16:11So, of course, we will do everything that we will have as a team have an impact on the outcome of the Tour.
16:17And I think we did have that in the past a lot of times.
16:20And that's our big goal, that's what we are going for.
16:25And, yeah, there are a lot of moments that you're not losing without your team,
16:31but there are also a lot of moments on the final climb.
16:33You have to do your best possible efforts for 30 minutes, for 40 minutes.
16:37And in the end, the team can't help a lot anymore.
16:39The last two questions.
16:41Yeah?
16:42Question for about, we have the new Montmartre circuit now in Paris.
16:46Do you consider it an unnecessary risk for a golden opportunity to take a big win?
16:51That's a good question.
16:53Personally, I didn't like the change too much.
16:57I like the format of having this final race on the Champs-Elysees.
17:04And, yeah, people maybe called it a parade, but I can tell you it was one hour flat out to hold the wheels and then a massive sprint.
17:13So, I think it was historical to do it like that and it doesn't really need a change.
17:21On the other hand, how the course is designed now, it maybe suits me better.
17:27But, yeah, I just hope we will race safe and I hope bad luck will not change the classment anymore.
17:38That will be, yeah, pity in my opinion.
17:42Last one.
17:43Simon, is it your goal in trying to stay in GC the first 11 days or is it more about surviving?
17:49I mean, I'm not going to lose time on purpose.
17:52But, like I said before, I'm not the priority here.
17:56We have Jonas, he's obviously proven himself before.
17:59So, I'm under no illusion about that.
18:02But, yeah, it's going to be tricky, to be honest.
18:04It's not really the type of racing that I enjoy in this part of the world.
18:07So, yeah, I'll try and survive and see what I can do.
18:10But, yeah, who knows.
18:12Thank you very much, Hal, for coming.
18:14Thank you.
