Taiwan is baking under high summer temperatures, and doctors say it's causing a spike in the number of emergency room visits for what turns out to be heat stroke.
Transcript
00:00It's almost 11 in the morning here in Taipei
00:02and already the temperature is a sultry 35 degrees.
00:06By midday, it'll be even hotter.
00:08Out here on the streets,
00:09people say they're doing the best they can
00:11to deal with some of the stickiest days of the year so far.
00:14I feel like this year has a very hot feeling.
00:17And since I didn't get cold before,
00:19I feel like this year is very easy to get cold.
00:22I think the first thing is to have more water.
00:24Because now people don't like to drink water.
00:26And if it's really very cold,
00:30then you can also drink some more water.
00:33It'll be easier to get cold.
00:34Though these visitors from Hong Kong say
00:36it could always be worse.
00:38It's more cold in Hong Kong.
00:41It's more cold in Hong Kong.
00:42It's more cold in Hong Kong.
00:44So it's pretty comfortable.
00:47And Friday is actually relatively cool.
00:49Thursday saw temperatures in parts of Taiwan,
00:52especially in the north, come very close to 40 degrees.
00:56This is one of several ongoing heat waves
00:58across the northern hemisphere,
00:59from Europe to the United States.
01:01And while air conditioning is common here,
01:03it's still taking a toll.
01:05In the first two days of July alone,
01:07over 100 people sought treatment
01:09for what turned out to be heat stroke.
01:11At this rate, July will quickly overtake June
01:14in terms of people needing
01:15emergency medical attention for heat.
01:17There is a chance of a typhoon forming near Taiwan soon,
01:32bringing wind and rain.
01:34And the weather is set to cool down slightly over the weekend.
01:37But doctors say it's critical to watch for signs of heat stroke,
01:41and keep as cool and hydrated as possible
01:43until this intense heat breaks.

01:49See you in our next one.
01:53?
01:57Oh no I have nothing.
01:58That's for five hours.
02:00You will notice that these breaks
02:02like a pandemic don't even destroy.
