00:00In the Arctic Circle, an airplane pilot is digging in the snow as if trying to form a drawing.
00:05On his uniform, only his last name, Overgaard, is written, and he appears to be the sole survivor at the scene.
00:12As soon as he finishes his work, it is revealed that he has formed the acronym SOS,
00:17indicating that the pilot is lost in the middle of the Arctic and needs to be rescued.
00:21Apparently, Overgaard made an emergency landing, and the plane's engine and wings were destroyed by the impact.
00:27He has been in the snow for days and is doing everything he can to survive in this inhospitable environment while waiting for help to feed himself.
00:35The pilot has established a fishing system where he has dug three holes in a frozen lake with ropes and bait tied to sticks.
00:42Thanks to this, he can feed himself during the day and has a supply of fish stored in a cooler.
00:47After another meal, Overgaard gathers his gear and climbs a mountain to observe the surroundings, hoping to see a search plane or a helicopter.
00:54Over the days, he has drawn a map of his location and sends emergency signals through his distress beacon.
01:01The machine works by turning a crank, with a red light indicating that the signal is being sent.
01:06If there is a response, the beacon will turn on a green light.
01:09Since the plane crashed, Overgaard has spent hours activating the beacon, but so far, no one has responded to his call.

01:31What are you waiting for to be part of this story?
01:34As night falls, the cold becomes more intense, forcing the pilot to return to the plane and regain energy for another day of struggle for survival.
01:42The next morning, Overgaard returns to dig the message SOS, but first, he goes to a small pile of stones near a hill.
01:50There, he says goodbye to someone, indicating that the stones serve as the grave of another crew member of the plane, who possibly lost their life in the accident.
01:57After paying his respects, he returns to digging, removing all the stones he can find to make the letters SOS clearer.
02:05His goal is to make the message visible enough for another pilot to see if flying over the area.
02:10Finally, Overgaard goes to check if he has managed to catch more fish when he notices that all the hooks are empty.
02:16In addition, next to one of the holes, he sees a huge paw that seems to belong to a snow predator.
02:21Fearing it might be a polar bear, the pilot runs back to the plane and locks himself inside until he's sure it's safe.
02:28Seeing that the danger has passed, Overgaard climbs back up the mountain and activates the distress flare, hoping the green light will finally turn on.
02:36However, the result remains the same and the pilot decides to explore the surroundings.
02:40As he feared, a huge polar bear appears in the distance, lurking in search of food.
02:45With no other option, the pilot returns to the plane and falls asleep before going through his usual routine the next day.
02:52However, no rescue has arrived and his stock of fish is slowly running out.
02:56All that remains is to keep trying to send distress signals, but after hours of attempts, Overgaard almost gives up.
03:03Then suddenly, the beacon lights up green, indicating that the signal has been picked up.
03:07The pilot hurries to see where the response came from and when he looks to the horizon, he finds a helicopter flying over the area.
03:14Quickly, Overgaard approaches the aircraft and activates a smoke flare so they can find him.
03:19Fortunately, the helicopter sees the survivor and prepares to land, but the strong storm causes the aircraft to lose control and the pilot is forced to pull away.
03:28To make matters worse, the helicopter loses more and more stability and the pilot has to make an emergency landing, crashing through everything in the snow.
03:36After the crash, Overgaard rushes to the scene and inside the helicopter he finds the pilot, already lifeless due to the injuries caused by the impact.
03:45Then, he finds a second crew member who is still alive but has a severe wound in the stomach.
03:51Overgaard grabs the helicopter's first aid kit and using a clamp, he ties the wound on the crew member.
03:56With this, he manages to stop the bleeding, but the snowstorm is intensifying and there's no way to return to the plane.
04:03All that's left is to rest inside the helicopter and only go out once the storm has passed.
04:08Hours go by and the atmosphere returns to normal, with Overgaard checking that the survivor is okay and taking a look at the equipment inside the aircraft.
04:16In addition to ropes, he finds an ice climbing pick and some cups of instant noodles.
04:20After days of eating only fish, the pilot wastes no time trying to heat water to cook and eats the noodles directly.
04:28However, he can't waste any more time and must return to the plane before another storm breaks out.
04:33Unfortunately, the pilot did not survive the crash, but Overgaard is willing to take the crew member to treat her injuries.
04:40As soon as he has gathered all the possible equipment, Overgaard writes a message on the helicopter.
04:44The text says that two survivors have gone to the valley due to where their plane crashed, hoping that someone will see the message and come to rescue them.
04:52Finally, Overgaard begins to walk back, carrying the crew member with him toward their plane.
04:58Once there, he asks her name, but the young woman does not understand his language very well and only says the word pilot to find out what happened to her partner in the helicopter.
05:06However, Overgaard tells her that the pilot did not survive and asks her to wait in the plane while he performs another inspection of the helicopter.
05:14As soon as the young woman falls asleep, the pilot returns to the crash scene and finds his partner's body completely covered in snow.
05:22Just as he did before, Overgaard buries him in the snow and places stones on top as a sign of respect.
05:27He then begins to check the inside of the helicopter and finds a map and a lighter, as well as a small gas tank and a stand, forming a kind of portable stove.
05:35At the same time, he sees a photo that moves him and puts it inside his jacket.
05:40The inspection continues and, fortunately for him, Overgaard finds a sled in the luggage compartment and uses it to carry the rest of the equipment.
05:48Once back at the plane, he places the photo he found in the helicopter next to the survivor.
05:53Then, it is revealed that the picture was a family photo, indicating that she and the pilot were married and had a small child.
05:59The young woman, however, is still sleeping, and Overgaard applies some medicine to clean her wound.
06:05He then lights the portable stove to warm something up and takes a look at the map, which shows more details of the region where they ended up.
06:12While making marks with a pen, Overgaard realizes that the wind is picking up and goes to check if he has caught more fish.
06:19He feels very happy when he pulls on the rope and notices that this time he has managed to catch a fish large enough to feed both survivors.
06:26He then prepares a soup using the fish meat and instant noodles.
06:30Although it is not the best food in the world, it is enough to keep them going for another day.
06:34As soon as the soup is ready, he wakes the young woman and gives her some food so she can regain energy.
06:40However, the loss of her husband has left her completely without hunger and without strength.
06:45But Overgaard insists that she eat and assures her that everything will be fine.
06:49A few days pass and Overgaard continues to send calls through the distress beacon.
06:54However, as before, no response is received and he begins to wonder how he can save the young survivor.
07:00She seems to be getting worse, coughing constantly during the night.
07:03The next morning, Overgaard keeps watching her and suddenly the survivor takes his hand as an act of gratitude for everything he has done.
07:11This motivates him even more to find a way out of there and he takes another look at the mat.
07:16The journey to the nearest town will take days of travel, but there is a shortcut through the mountains they can use to get there faster.
07:23Deciding to take the risk in the middle of the Arctic, Overgaard prepares more ropes and fishing bait, keeping as many as possible in reserve.
07:29Then, he gathers the equipment on the sled along with the young survivor who remains asleep.
07:35To protect her from the cold, the pilot places her in a sleeping bag and writes a final message on his plane.
07:41It says that the two are heading south in search of the town and need help.
07:45Finally, Overgaard ties a rope to the sled, rested on his shoulders, and begins to pull it, heading toward the vast frozen wilderness.
07:51However, upon looking closely at the map, the man realizes that the path actually goes north.
07:58So, Overgaard returns to the plane, corrects the message, and heads north, walking through the thick snow.
08:03After a long walk, he takes another look at the map and realizes he is still far from his destination.
08:09Despite this, the pilot doesn't want to give up and gives the young girl some water to drink.
08:14More hours pass and the two survivors have completed the second part of the journey, but night is approaching.
08:19Because of this, Overgaard starts digging into the snow, building a cave so they can rest.
08:24He continues feeding and giving water to the young girl, and both fall asleep, hoping no polar bears show up in the area.
08:31Day breaks once more, and Overgaard equips himself with more clothes and a mask, as another strong storm is approaching.
08:37On the way, he finds equipment covered in snow, and hopes it belongs to a survivor.
08:41However, upon closer inspection, the pilot realizes it was his own gear he left behind days ago when he tried to cross the Arctic alone.
08:50Inside a box, he finds his old identification card, indicating that the pilot was part of the AE.
08:56This is an experimental aircraft association, where members build, restore, and fly different types of aircraft.
09:02It is likely that Overgaard ventured out in one of the experimental planes, but could not withstand the Arctic weather conditions and crashed.
09:08However, there is no use in complaining anymore, and Overgaard continues, hoping to reach his destination as quickly as possible.
09:16The journey goes on until the pilot encounters a huge mountain that was not on the map.
09:21Despite this obstacle, Overgaard uses the ice axe he took from the helicopter, climbs the mountain, and finds a flat pass on the other side.
09:28He then pulls the equipment using a rope, after which he tries to do the same with the young survivor, dragging her with the sled.
09:35However, doing this turns out to be more difficult than he expected, and no matter how much he pulls, the weight is too much to bear.
09:42As a result, the rope slips from his hands, and the sled begins to fall.
09:46In a final attempt, Overgaard pulls it with all his strength, but the sled ends up sliding to the bottom of the hill.
09:51Seeing that he will not be able to drag it to the top, the pilot is forced to leave that path behind and go around the mountain, taking a longer route.
09:59Overgaard resumes his journey, but needs to pause again to rest and eat something.
10:04He finds a cave under the rocks with the entrance covered in snow, but using his equipment, he manages to dig it out and clear the way.
10:11Inside, he uses the gas tank to cook the leftover fish and tries to feed the young girl despite her condition.
10:16With night approaching, the only thing left for both of them to do is sleep, but Overgaard hears something approaching.
10:23He listens closely, and to his horror, hears the roar of a wild animal followed by heavy breathing.
10:29Very carefully, the pilot gets up and grabs his ice axe, expecting the worst.
10:34Seconds later, the room falls silent again, and Overgaard believes the animal has given up and left.
10:39To his misfortune, the young girl suddenly coughs, which attracts the enormous polar bear, who begins to roar more furiously.
10:46The animal tries to break into the cave, but the hole is too small for it to pass through.
10:51Despite this, the bear insists on entering, using its paw to remove the snow and poking its head through the opening.
10:58To prevent it from coming closer, Overgaard starts shouting in its direction and lights a flare, waving it through the air to scare it.
11:04His plan works, and the bear gets scared by the fire, fleeing and leaving the two survivors in the cave.
11:10Despite his bravery, as soon as the predator leaves, Overgaard collapses to the ground, exhausted and panicked,
11:16trying to tell himself that everything will be all right.
11:19Another day passes, and the pilot leaves the cave to investigate, and luckily, there are no signs of the polar bear anywhere.
11:26However, the place is not safe, and if the bear returns, the two survivors may not be as lucky as the night before.
11:32So, with the young woman on top of the sled, Overgaard continues dragging her, moving a few more meters along the path that seems endless.
11:39To make things worse, a strong snowstorm begins to spread throughout the area, hindering the pilot's vision and forcing him to stop.
11:46This time, there is no cave nearby where he can take shelter, and continuing to walk will only exhaust him more.
11:52The only solution is to get into the sleeping bag with the young woman and share the small space to stay warm.
11:57In the middle of this desperate situation, the hours pass slowly, until finally everything returns to normal, and the two survivors are left covered by snow.
12:07Overgaard then gets out of his sleeping bag and goes to check if his equipment has been damaged by the snowstorm.
12:12Among them, the pilot finds his water bottle, but it is completely frozen.
12:16The solution is to use his own body heat to melt the ice, so Overgaard places the bottle inside his jacket.
12:22After that, the pilot prepares the sled for another long journey until he reaches a trail with very soft snow, which makes movement difficult.
12:30The fatigue only increases, and he has to make a stop closer to a rocky hill.
12:35As soon as they have lit a fire to warm up, Overgaard asks the survivor to squeeze his hands so they can generate mutual heat and keep the circulation going.
12:43The young woman, however, remains unconscious and breathes with difficulty, indicating that she is getting sicker and sicker.
12:49Overgaard's suspicions are confirmed when he goes to check the wound on her body and notices that each day it is becoming more infected.
12:57He also sees blood coming out of her mouth and fears that the young woman does not have much time left.
13:02Though, through gritted teeth, Overgaard decides to leave her there and continue the journey alone, because he knows that in these conditions, the two of them will not be able to survive.
13:11So, taking only his team, the pilot tries to follow the route when he sees a rock covered in flowers in the middle of the snow.
13:17Overgaard is surprised by this, but when he tries to get closer, the ground beneath him gives way, and he falls into a hole.
13:24Minutes later, the pilot wakes up in a cave with his right leg trapped under a rock due to the temperature.
13:30Overgaard does everything he can to free himself, but the effort is futile and he can't move.
13:35After so much effort, it seems that his fate is to remain alone in the middle of the Arctic.
13:39However, Overgaard does not allow this thought to dominate his mind, and with the little strength he has left, he does everything he can to break free.
13:47Despite the unbearable pain, he keeps pulling until his leg is free from the snow, leaving him seriously injured.
13:53Now, he has to crawl through the snow and rocks, but soon finds an exit from the cave.
13:58Even though he has solved this problem, the pain from the wound only makes it harder, and he can barely stay on his feet.
14:03He then returns to the place where he left the survivor and takes the photo of her family so he can give it to her son when he finds him.
14:10However, he is surprised to see that the young woman is still alive and speaks to him feeling a little better.
14:15Overgaard soon regrets having thought of abandoning her for a moment, and he cries in front of her, apologizing for what he did.
14:21Finally, the pilot says that everything will be fine and keeps pulling the sled, willing to continue the journey despite his condition.
14:29Before resuming, he takes a look at the wound, and it's even worse than he thought.
14:32With no way to treat the wound, Overgaard improvises and places ice on the cut along with a cloth to stop the bleeding.
14:40Finally, he continues dragging the sled with the survivor, ignoring the pain and fatigue to keep going.
14:45At one point, he gives the young woman the last drops of water, fills the bottle with snow, and swallows a bit to ease his unbearable thirst.
14:53Then, Overgaard looks at the map and realizes that there is still a long way to go before reaching his destination.
14:59Fatigue increasingly takes over his body, and everything gets worse when he reaches a higher part of the route.
15:05He tries to climb using an iron rod as a cane, but his leg injury complicates things.
15:10Eventually, he is forced to stop and check if the distress beacon still works, but it has been damaged by the snowstorm.
15:16Without this resource, Overgaard drags himself to the top of the hill to see if he can find something or someone nearby.
15:22When he gets there, he sees a helicopter in the distance that has just landed nearby.
15:27Without wasting time, Overgaard returns to the sled, pushing it with the little energy he has left.
15:32Upon reaching the top, he yells as loudly as he can for help, but his voice is weak and the pilot can barely speak.
15:39All he can do now is light the last flare he has and wave his arms, hoping someone will see him.
15:45However, the team in the helicopter doesn't notice him, so Overgaard makes one last desperate attempt.
15:50He lights the flare on his jacket and, using a stick, waves it in the air.
15:54Unfortunately, none of this works, and the team returns to the helicopter, beginning to take off away from there.
16:00All hope seems lost, and Overgaard lifts the young survivor, pleading with the helicopter crew to see them.
16:06He only wishes for the group to save her, but the aircraft is already far away,
16:10and any chance of survival seems to have been lost forever.
16:13Despite this, Overgaard places the young girl back on the sled and promises her he won't leave her alone.
16:18With the two lying in the snow, the pilot tells her and himself that everything will be alright before falling asleep from exhaustion.
16:26When the two lost consciousness, a strong wind began to stir everything around them.
16:30Then, the same helicopter lands right in front of them, indicating that the pair has finally been rescued.
