00:00Good evening DF Media Sports viewers. We are deeply saddened to report that Diogo Jota,
00:15the 28-year-old Portuguese forward for Liverpool and the national team,
00:18has tragically died in a car accident in northwestern Spain today, July 3, 2025.
00:23According to local reports, Jota and his brother Andrei Silva, aged 26 and a midfielder for
00:30Portuguese side Penafiel, lost control of their Lamborghini near Zamora early this morning,
00:35after a suspected tyre puncture on the A52 motorway. The vehicle veered off the road and
00:41caught fire, ending both their lives immediately. Born in Porto on December 4, 1996, Diogo José
00:48Teixeira da Silva, known worldwide as Diogo Jota, emerged from Gondomar's youth ranks.
00:54He made his professional debut with Pacos de Ferreira in 2014, later moving through Atletico
01:00Madrid, on loan to Porto, and earning promotion from the Championship with Wolves in 2018.
01:05He joined Liverpool in September 2020, in a deal worth around £41 million. Over 182 club matches,
01:13he scored 65 goals, contributing heavily to Liverpool's 2024-25 Premier League, FA Cup,
01:20and League Cup triumphs. Internationally, Jota earned 49 caps for Portugal, netting 14 goals.
01:27He was part of the Nations League-winning squad in both 2019 and 2025 tributes of Pordin.
01:33Liverpool described the news as devastating, and said the entire club is in shock.
01:37Portugal's Prime Minister and the Portuguese FA President echoed the heartbreak,
01:41describing his death and that of his brother, as irreparable losses, for both nation and world
01:47football. UEFA has announced a minute's silence before today's women's Euro 2025 match,
01:53between Portugal and Spain. Diogo Jota was more than a goalscorer. Teammates and fans recall him as warm,
01:59humble, and fiercely competitive. As former Wolves teammates said, Diogo was adored,
02:05cherished by everyone who worked with him. Just 10 days ago he married his longtime partner,
02:10Ruth Cardoso. The couple shared three young children. As we mourn a star taken far too soon,
