In this segment, Stephen A. outlines why the Knicks are a perfect fit for LeBron's final chapter, from the massive Madison Square Garden spotlight to the city’s hunger for a championship.

00:00NBA since Dwight Howard. Lakers head coach J.J. Reddick was a big fan of Aiton during his time on First Take Back in 2022. Take a listen.
00:11Aiton's fantastic.
00:13Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. He's okay.
00:15Well, okay, okay, that's fine.
00:18He's fantastic at punishing mismatches in the two-man pick-and-roll with him and CP.
00:23They're the number one offensive doer among high-volume pick-and-roll players, so he is fantastic.
00:28Yeah, he is fantastic, and he's 22 years old.
00:30CP's going to have that with any role in big, so that's not – okay.
00:33He had it with DeAndre Jordan. DeAndre Jordan's fantastic.
00:36I'm talking about the last two years. You go back six NBA seasons. That was the best duo.
00:41So anybody that Chris Paul has played with, that was the best duo in the pick-and-roll.
00:44Okay.
00:45Just DeAndre Aiton, so he is fantastic already.
00:48No declarative statement at all from J.J. Reddick there.
00:50David, what will Aiton do for the Lakers?
00:53I'm squinting, but were they talking about DeAndre Aiton after a 33-point Game 7 loss?
00:57That's where the discussion went.
00:59I'm less concerned about what he is going to do for the Lakers as much as I'm concerned
01:03about what he's going to do to the Lakers.
01:05Now, what he can do for the Lakers, he can rebound, he can score, he is a big.
01:09The other problem I have, the two-part is, is he going to frustrate this team?
01:14Is he going to disappoint them?
01:15Is he going to make J.J. Reddick consider benching him come playoff time
01:19because he's not playing good enough defense and not getting to his mismatches?
01:21I'm worried about what this does for the chemistry, the locker room, LeBron, Luka.
01:26Yes, he'll have the rolling guy.
01:28Yes, he is a warm body that's seven feet tall.
01:30I'm concerned about the disappointment of DeAndre Aiton coming to this team,
01:33that they are the only people who think they have a shot to make it anywhere in this playoff time.
01:37You're talking about his approach.
01:39You're talking about what he brings mentally, like his compete level.
01:42Yes.
01:43Those are scary things to question about when you've been in the league as long as he has been, right?
01:47When you've been a number one.
01:47Come to a high-pressure situation like this.
01:49And that's what you know.
01:50So, to me, it's almost like he has to come in.
01:52If this doesn't get his attention, he doesn't belong in the league.
01:55When you have that kind of size, that kind of athletic ability,
01:57and what we saw Chris Paul unlock with him.
02:00That is one thing you have to keep in mind in Phoenix, is that it's there.
02:04Can Luka find it the way Chris Paul did?
02:07Now, Chris Paul has got a little bit of a different way to lead, too, and motivate as well.
02:11Stay in your ear.
02:12Is that something that Luka does?
02:13Not really.
02:14But is it something LeBron can do if he's there?
02:16If he's there.
02:17It's something he could do, but he'd have to be properly motivated to do it.
02:20But for DeAndre Ayton, TB, this is his career.
02:24This is his career right now, walking into a situation like this.
02:27Yeah, and we're also talking about a guy who's on a mid-level deal.
02:29We're not talking about a guy who's on a max contract.
02:31You guys are acting like they traded three first-round picks to get DeAndre Ayton.
02:34But he's an important piece now.
02:36No, I'm not saying he's not.
02:36They didn't have a center.
02:37I'm not saying he's not.
02:38He is a useful piece for them.
02:39But it's also a vastly different expectation when he is a guy who's signing a mid-level deal after getting bought out than when he was on a max contract in Phoenix as supposed to be a pillar of a team that just had gone to the NBA Finals, right?
02:50There's a way different level set of expectations for him.
02:53J.J. Redick in that clip, he talked about the things that DeAndre Ayton could do.
02:57I did the same thing as in the clip.
02:58And he can find ways to get DeAndre Ayton in those kind of matchups.
03:02J.J. will do that.
03:03Luka Doncic will put the ball in his hands in good situations.
03:05So will LeBron James.
03:06I think he'll be put in a good position to succeed.
03:09I think he will be pretty good for the Lakers.
03:11I also don't think he moves the needle because the Lakers have a lot more problems than just getting a center.
03:14Well, the problem may be they may not be the best team in their own state, possibly.
03:18So which team are you highest on in California amongst the Lakers, Clippers, and Warriors?
03:21Sorry to the Kings.
03:22I was going to say, you forgot that team too, right?
03:23I didn't forget.
03:24That's it, sorry.
03:25I apologize.
03:25Look, I'll say the Clippers.
03:27And if they can add, speaking of Chris Paul, if they can add him, he wants to stay in L.A., that'd be great.
03:31I like what they've done in the offseason.
03:32They keep that team together.
03:33James Harden is a guy that we don't talk about that much anymore, as much as we used to.
03:38But he's coming off a fantastic season.
03:40It's all about health with them, obviously.
03:42But they've got size.
03:43They've got talent.
03:44They've got a great coach, too, in Tyloot.
03:46We saw in the first round of the playoffs the Nuggets and Clippers play what essentially was the Western Conference semifinals,
03:51a fantastic seven-game series between them and Denver.
03:53The Clippers have added Brooke Lopez this offseason.
03:55They get James Harden back.
03:56If Kawhi Leonard is healthy, they're easily one of the top four teams in the West.
03:59I think they're clearly the best of the three teams we're talking about.
04:02I would put Golden State second.
04:04I think with their combo of Jimmy Butler and Steph Curry, with a healthy Draymond Green, we'll see what else they do this summer.
04:10We'll find out what happens to Jonathan Kaminga.
04:11I like their core better.
04:12And, again, the Lakers don't have perimeter defense.
04:14They don't have a lot of shooting.
04:16They've lost Dorian Finney-Smith.
04:17Yes, they got DeAndre Ayton.
04:18But they have too many flaws to me to be a team that's getting out of the first round of the playoffs like Golden State did last year
04:23and like the Clippers did, would have done if they'd played just about anybody but Denver.
04:27My brain is with you guys.
04:28My brain is Clippers.
04:29You look at the Clippers.
04:30I was all on board with them last year, especially what James Harden did to keep that team afloat until Kawhi Leonard came back.
04:37I love those couple of months that Kawhi Leonard was healthy Kawhi.
04:40I looked like prime Kawhi again.
04:42Ty Lue did an incredible job coaching that team.
04:46I'm not on the Clippers, man.
04:47I'm not believing in this team anymore just because of what I saw in Game 7 against that Nuggets team.
04:53Another laid egg by James Harden where we're trusting this dude come playoff time
04:57and we're trusting that Kawhi Leonard is going to be as healthy this season as he was last season.
05:03I was so disgusted by what I saw in that Game 7 with them and the Nuggets that I cannot convince myself.
05:09Like, I'm putting them in the Philadelphia Sixers bucket in terms of I'm not believing them come playoff time.
05:14Now, they're going to be a much better team, I think, than the Philadelphia 76ers.
05:18But at the same time, I'm not believing in playoff James Harden.
05:22I'm not believing this team pulling through come playoff time because we could talk about the injuries and the flukes and all that stuff.
05:27They did the same thing when Kawhi Leonard was healthy in the bubble.
05:31Like, we could talk about injuries.
05:32Kawhi has been healthy and laid some playoff eggs and blew some playoff series.
05:35For me, who I think is the biggest threat coming out of California is the Golden State Warriors.
05:41A full year of Jimmy and Steph Curry figuring this thing out.
05:45During those last three months of that season, they looked as good as anybody in the West.
05:49And if Steph is healthy, they may have made it to the conference finals.
05:52We'll never know.
05:53But Steph is somebody who, given a full season, a full complement of players,
05:57and we'll see what they do with the Kaminga thing.
05:58That is the big question mark.
06:00And what do they do to replace Looney?
06:02If it's Horford or anybody else, they still have some things to figure out.
06:05But for me, number one in California is the Golden State Warriors.
06:08Number two is the Clippers.
06:10Solely because of what we saw from them in the playoffs.
06:12Yeah, Golden State would change my mind if they get a center.
06:14You know, if they can get somebody like an Al Horford or somebody along those lines,
06:17like a vet who knows what he's doing, they needed size.
06:20They really were missing that, along with, obviously, Steph Curry.
06:23So I'd change my answer if they make a move like that.
06:27All right, the 2000s in the NBA dominated by two Western Conference teams,
06:31the aforementioned Lakers and Spurs.
06:33From 1999 to 2010, one of these two teams were named champion in all but three seasons.
06:40As such, a great rivalry formed between L.A. and San Antonio, especially between their stars.
06:47Tony Parker says Kobe Bryant went to great lengths to get into his opponent's heads.
06:52He started trash-talking to me in French during the playoffs.
06:58So he learned the language to trash-talk me in French.
07:02Because, you know, Kobe used to guard me.
07:03Yeah.
07:04He put Kobe on me all the time.
07:05Yeah.
07:05And he will start talking in French.
07:08I was like, wow.
07:08Can you say it or not?
07:09I don't know.
07:10I'm not going to say it.
07:10It's crazy stuff.
07:12I'm not going to say it.
07:13Kobe Bryant learned French.
07:16You know what the wildest thing about that was?
07:17That Tony Parker has a Nando's in his house.
07:2024-hour restaurant in his house.
07:22Well, if we're talking about Team Petty, we brought in our captain.
07:25I was going to say, why am I here?
07:26I know you.
07:26Kimberly A. Martin, captain of Team Petty.
07:29You know why you're here.
07:30She has the C on the jersey.
07:31The captain for Team Petty.
07:32We will get to you in a second.
07:33Alan Hahn, greatest lengths you've gone to be petty.
07:36I mean, I try to make this a short story.
07:39I went to junior college first, and I saw a basketball in the trophy case,
07:431,000 points.
07:44And I said to the AD, like, you know what?
07:46I want to put a ball in there.
07:49He's like, you're not going to get 1,000 points.
07:51Fast forward, end of the next season, I'm within range.
07:54We're playing a playoff game.
07:55I know how many I need.
07:57He's at the game.
07:58Every single point I scored, I counted and pointed to him until I got to 1,000,
08:02and I yelled in the middle of the game.
08:04People are like, what's wrong with this guy?
08:05I went right to him.
08:061,000.
08:08So, now, in the future, there's now 4,000-point scores in the school's history.
08:12There's only three balls in the trophy case.
08:14Guess who didn't get one?
08:15No.
08:15Oh, no.
08:16So, the petty came back.
08:16Now, that's petty.
08:17That boomerang hit you.
08:19That's crazy.
08:20Knowing you, I'm not too bad.
08:20Somehow a humble brag and a petty at the same time.
08:22No, no, no.
08:23What do you mean?
08:23Pretty good.
08:24Look, you want petty?
08:25That was petty.
08:27Kimberly?
08:28Guys, I'm actually a little offended that you think I would clearly have a petty story.
08:33I really don't.
08:34All right, so then you can react.
08:36Okay.
08:37I'm changing my answer.
08:38Sorry to everybody producing.
08:40Well, back in the day when I worked at ESPN West Palm, we would have on radio, we would
08:44have for somebody's birthday, let's say it was David's birthday, hey, everybody put in
08:47$10.
08:48Well, I was so competitive that every single time I put in $11.
08:51And I wanted to make sure every single person knew that I was the one that put in the most
08:56amount of money just to bother everybody else that we have.
08:58Oh, wow.
08:59We have $101.
09:00Where would that come from?
09:01I had to win.
09:02I was very petty.
09:03Is that petty?
09:04Okay, I'll give you another one.
09:05I'll give you another one.
09:05I'll give you another one.
09:06I'll give you another one.
09:07Here she goes.
09:08Oh, boy.
09:08Isn't one of the same sometimes?
09:10Okay.
09:11Yeah.
09:11Is it petty?
09:12Okay.
09:13This must have been ninth grade, somewhere in high school.
09:16Girl drove baseline.
09:18She beat me.
09:20She was going up for the layup.
09:21I was going for the ball, but I just clotheslined her instead.
09:25Oh, of course.
09:26Well, now we know why K-Mart is here.
09:28So then, like, parents are like, oh, get that animal off the court, yada, yada, yada.
09:32So I don't know if that's petty or just mean.
09:36But I like to say I was the Charles Oakley of my eighth grade girls basketball team.
09:41So I feel like it's...
09:42Well, Charles knows a lot about petty with him and James Nolan.
09:44There are a few don't bless him.
09:45I'll say that I'm happy that I'm, you know, I'm a saved person.
09:49I don't believe in pettiness.
09:50I don't do petty things.
09:51The most petty thing I did was probably the time I was on First Take and waved at my old
09:56journalism professor at Northwestern who said I'd never make it in journalism.
09:59There you go.
10:00Oh, my God.
10:02That's pretty good.
10:02Well done.
10:03Well done.
10:04That is pretty good.
10:05That's petty.
10:06I'm glad that you weren't to save to pull that off.
10:11I think we all have that, though, right?
10:12But that's it.
10:12We all have those moments, you know?
10:14At least I didn't mention any names, but, you know.
10:16Right.
10:17It's close.
10:18During the break, I'm going to ask who it is.
10:20On time, nothing?
10:21No petty from you?
10:22I'm actually not a petty guy, unlike these guys who are humble bragging they're petty.
10:25I don't have any.
10:26I also take people at their word.
10:27If they say don't write back, don't call back, I will never call you back or write back ever.
10:32You're telling me to do something?
10:33Oh, yes.
10:34This guy has no problem being petty.
10:35Oh, no.
10:36No, I'm ready.
10:37I'm team petty.
10:38I am team petty.
10:39He's Richard Petty, the king of the world.
10:40I'm Tom Petty.
10:42I'm free-falling right now.
10:43Speaking of folks being petty, coming up, we dive into Aaron Rodgers.
10:48That bad man is making up for this time for his new Steelers teammates.
10:54But what does he have to do to make this season?
