00:00Defending champions Manchester City were knocked out of the Club World Cup at the last 16 stage
00:05after being stunned in extra time by Saudi Arabia side Al-Hilal in an incredible seven-goal thriller.
00:11Pep Guardiola's side had come through the group stages and scathed but failed to reach the quarter-finals
00:15after conceding four times in a haphazard defensive display.
00:19City have been fast starters in this competition and for the fourth game running,
00:23they opened the scoring inside the first 10 minutes.
00:26Captain Bernardo Silva swept home from close range after the opposition defenders failed to clear,
00:31but the Al-Hilal players were left fuming as Ryan Aitnori appeared to handle the ball in the build-up.
00:37Goalkeeper Bono made big saves to Danai Savinho and Ilki Gundogan from close range,
00:42before showing sharp reflexes to tip Josco Guardiola's header over the crossbar.
00:46At the other end, Al-Hilal found little joy in the opening 45 minutes,
00:51but just 44 seconds into the second half, Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo was in the right place to
00:56head in the equaliser. City were reeling when former Barcelona man Malcolm ran clear to Cooley
01:02Convert and give Al-Hilal a shock lead on 52 minutes, before Erling Haaland restored parity
01:07just three minutes later by poking in from a corner. With time running out in a thoroughly
01:12entertaining contest, Manuel Akanji flicked a header against the post and Haaland saw his follow-up
01:17effort sensationally cleared off the line by Ali Lajami. The match went into extra time and Al-Hilal
01:22thought they had won it when former Chelsea defender Calado Koulibaly powered in a header in
01:26the 94th minute, but substitute Phil Foden squeezed Tomo Vali from an acute angle to keep City alive.
01:33But Marcos Leonardo was the hero as he converted at the back post eight minutes from time to deliver
01:38a monumental result for the 2021 AFC Champions League winners.
