Geneva [Switzerland], July 3 (ANI): Dolkun Isa, former president of the World Uyghur Congress and a leading Uyghur rights advocate, has raised alarm over the ongoing persecution of Uyghur Muslims in China’s northwest Xinjiang region, which many Uyghurs refer to as East Turkestan.  In a recent video message released from Geneva, where the 59th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council is currently underway, Isa described the situation as "dire," with widespread human rights violations continuing under the pretext of state security and development. Isa criticised Beijing's ongoing efforts to downplay or deny these abuses through orchestrated media tours designed to mislead the international community.
