00:02:10Hidden deep in a national forest, located in Southern California,

00:02:48described in J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy classic, Lord of the Rings.
00:02:54And, as you can see, R. Rivendell certainly evokes that image.
00:02:59What better place could we have found to research, teach, and practice the ancient rites of magic?
00:03:05Hermetic magic is our own English and European cultural tradition of shamanism and seership.
00:03:13It is the magic of King Solomon of Merlin, of Nostradamus and Count Coleostro.
00:03:19It has been called sorcery, necromancy, and black magic by those who do not understand it.
00:03:27And yet, it is also known as the art of kings and the secret science of the philosophers.
00:03:34Here at Rivendell, we have everything necessary to pursue the study and the practical application of this ultimate human adventure.
00:03:44We have an outdoor henge for seasonal ceremonies, an indoor temple for magical rites,
00:03:50an astronomical observatory to view the heavens,
00:03:54and a hermitage for retreats, lectures, and fellowship.
00:03:57Come inside with me now, and together we will lift the veil, obscuring this ancient art of wizardry.

00:04:12In the outer world, I'm known as Polk Runyon.
00:04:15But here, in the inner world of the Rivendell Hermitage,
00:04:20I'm the Archimage Frater Thabion,
00:04:23your host and guide on a tour of the wonderful world of hermetic magic.
00:04:31Hermetic magic is an art of philosophy and a very ancient and powerful religion.
00:04:38Yes, a religion.
00:04:39But with an essential difference from other religions,
00:04:43where they depend upon faith for their salvation,
00:04:48we seek the wisdom and power of the Gnosis.
00:04:52Know yourself, for in your temple you are one with the gods.
00:04:57In our two previous videos,
00:05:01The Magic of Solomon and the Dark Mirror of Magic,
00:05:04we emphasized the techniques of evocation and invocation.
00:05:11That's summoning spirits to visible appearance
00:05:14and calling down angels to converse with them.
00:05:18Now, in some ways, this is putting the cart before the horse
00:05:21because there's a lot more to the philosophy and practice of magic
00:05:26than these two methods.
00:05:29In this production, we're going to give you a broader perspective.
00:05:33We'll cover hermetic magical yoga,
00:05:37path workings,
00:05:38seasonal ceremonies,
00:05:40the mystical Ugarist,
00:05:42and the Enochian Aether system.
00:05:44Let us begin by establishing
00:05:58the magical universe within ourselves
00:06:01through the process of hermetic magical yoga.
00:06:08When I first began my study of magic back in 1968,
00:06:12I was impressed with the Tibetan system of tantric yoga
00:06:17as described in the series of books
00:06:20edited by W. Evans Wentz.
00:06:23I soon realized that the modern European magus
00:06:26Franz Barden
00:06:28and the British magician Alistair Crowley
00:06:31had both incorporated Eastern yoga techniques
00:06:35into Western magic,
00:06:37but they had both stopped short
00:06:39of adapting the most important Eastern yoga system
00:06:43to Western practice,
00:06:45that of the straight line spinal chakra system.
00:06:49Neither Barden nor Crowley
00:06:51could overcome the differences
00:06:53between this Indian tantric configuration
00:06:56and the three-pillared Western tree of life,
00:06:59even though the ancient caduceus of Hermes
00:07:02was a major clue,
00:07:04along with the Renaissance hermetic mystic
00:07:07Johann Gitchell's drawing
00:07:09of a Western hermetic chakra arrangement
00:07:11back in 1696.
00:07:13And the lightning flash,
00:07:16or flaming sword,
00:07:18on the tree of life itself
00:07:19is also an obvious clue.
00:07:22But we still should not fault
00:07:24Barden and Crowley over much
00:07:26for failing to realize
00:07:28and develop this vital secret,
00:07:29because in the latter half
00:07:32of the 20th century,
00:07:34after Barden and Crowley had both died,
00:07:37Tibetan exiles began to teach
00:07:39selected Western students
00:07:42the inner secrets of their magic.
00:07:45Now those of us who were fortunate enough
00:07:47to sit at the feet of Tibetan gurus
00:07:49and learn their tantras firsthand
00:07:52soon discovered
00:07:53that there were different chakra systems
00:07:56for each deity we invoked.
00:07:58The previous notion
00:08:00that all Eastern chakra arrangements
00:08:02were the same,
00:08:04and had been that way
00:08:05for thousands of years,
00:08:07was just simply not true.
00:08:09Along with this revelation,
00:08:11it is equally important to note
00:08:13that magical color
00:08:15is what we actively impose
00:08:18upon the inner planes,
00:08:20not what we passively observe
00:08:23when we scry.
00:08:24Therefore,
00:08:26our chakras can conform
00:08:28to our own
00:08:29Kabbalistic color scales.
00:08:31In our case,
00:08:33my year of study and practice
00:08:35with the Sakya order
00:08:36of Tibetan Tantric Buddhism,
00:08:38under the tutelage
00:08:39of the late Luding Ken Rinpoche,
00:08:42confirmed for me
00:08:44the validity
00:08:45of this Western Kabbalistic chakra system
00:08:49we had first developed
00:08:51published in 1975
00:08:53and published back in 1977.
00:08:56We have since gone on
00:08:58to perfect a master ritual
00:09:01in which all our ancient pantheon
00:09:04of Phoenician gods
00:09:05indwell in the Kabbalistic spheres
00:09:08within the body of the magician.
00:09:11Within the mystic rose
00:09:14and fire-opal jewel of Haud,
00:09:17we enter the alchemical laboratory
00:09:21of Kothar,
00:09:23the ancient Venetian predecessor
00:09:26of Tubal-Cain.
00:09:29Within the mystic rose,
00:09:32an emerald jewel of Netzach,
00:09:33we come into the presence
00:09:36of the goddess Astarte,
00:09:38adorned with all the jewels
00:09:41of the Hermetic cosmos.
00:09:44I cannot overemphasize
00:09:46the importance of this development.
00:09:48This Kabbalistic chakra arrangement
00:09:50is certainly a significant advance
00:09:53in Western magic.
00:09:54It goes far beyond
00:09:56the Golden Dawn's middle pillar exercise,
00:10:00providing inner wellsprings of power
00:10:02for every magical operation,
00:10:04for the creation of the body of light,
00:10:08and for the ultimate mystical experience
00:10:11of merger with the Godhead.
00:10:14At present,
00:10:16we are the only esoteric group
00:10:18in the Western world
00:10:19employing and teaching this system.

00:10:54of entering this hidden magical universe.
00:10:58Following the Hermetic principle
00:11:00of as above, so below,

00:11:04we have again combined

00:11:13Some people might call this technique
00:11:15astral travel.
00:11:17We prefer the term
00:11:18inner plane projection.

00:13:18of the great mirror.
00:13:19The mirror,
00:13:20suspended waist high,
00:13:22also serves
00:13:23as an altar top
00:13:24on which will be placed
00:13:26the symbols
00:13:27relating to the path
00:13:29and the sphere
00:13:30of the working.
00:13:30after a hypnotic induction
00:13:33which renders
00:13:34the physical body inert,
00:13:36the living spirit body
00:13:38is released
00:13:39from the dormant
00:13:40physical form
00:13:41and flies up
00:13:43through the Tatwa
00:13:44which serves
00:13:45as an astral doorway
00:13:47leading to the inner realms
00:13:49of the Olam Yetzirah.
00:14:06On the highest point
00:14:07of the ridgeline,
00:14:09silhouetted
00:14:10against the glow
00:14:11of the Milky Way,
00:14:12we see
00:14:14the great
00:14:15T-shaped
00:14:15stone dolmen.
00:14:17It stands
00:14:18stark black
00:14:19against the heavenly
00:14:20river of souls.
00:14:22We climb the trail
00:14:24along the ridge crest.
00:14:26It becomes steeper
00:14:27and more precarious
00:14:29as we make
00:14:30our way upward.
00:14:32Finally,
00:14:32we reach the top

00:14:35of the dolmen.
00:14:37A cool sea breeze
00:14:38touches our faces.
00:14:40We look down
00:14:41to a desolate shore
00:14:43and out over
00:14:44a vast nighted seascape.
00:14:47This is the Gulf of Nepesh,
00:14:50that ever-dark sea
00:14:51of forgotten dreams
00:14:53and ancient remembrance.
00:14:55The moon is hiding
00:14:56behind a veil of cloud
00:14:58shrouding the sea
00:15:00of mystery and darkness.
00:15:02We examine
00:15:02the ancient stone dolmen.
00:15:04It is 12 feet high
00:15:06and roughly chiseled
00:15:07from coarse black stone.
00:15:09The six-foot-long cross member
00:15:11on the top
00:15:12forms the T.
00:15:13There are forged
00:15:15bronze rings
00:15:16set near the ends
00:15:18of the cross.
00:15:19On the upright member,
00:15:20there are hand and toeholds
00:15:22and a ledge to stand on.
00:15:25We realize
00:15:25that this dolmen
00:15:27must have been used
00:15:28by shamans of old
00:15:30in a vision quest
00:15:31to write
00:15:32of self-crucifixion
00:15:33and that we are now here
00:15:36for that purpose ourselves.

00:15:41upon this great Tau cross.
00:15:44Now it's your turn

00:16:06the vast seascape beyond
00:16:08in a pale silver light.
00:16:11You have a panoramic view
00:16:13of the shoreline
00:16:13and the gulf.
00:16:15A thousand yards out
00:16:16beyond the surf,
00:16:18a great statue
00:16:19rises
00:16:20out of the dark waters.
00:16:22This is the Colossus
00:16:25of Yasod.
00:16:27Far out
00:16:28on the dark horizon
00:16:30to your left,
00:16:31an orange light
00:16:32flashes
00:16:33from the distant
00:16:34sphere of Haud.
00:16:36And,
00:16:37far off to the right,
00:16:39a green spark
00:16:40glimmers
00:16:41from the sphere
00:16:42of Nitzak.
00:16:43These distant beacons
00:16:45focus their rays
00:16:47on the crystal
00:16:48atop the Colossus.
00:16:50The crystal shimmers
00:16:52with an electric aura
00:16:54and suddenly
00:16:55a deep blue ray
00:16:57is projected
00:16:58directly towards you.
00:17:00It engulfs you
00:17:01in a violet,
00:17:03blue field
00:17:04of magnetic energy.
00:17:05Your Yasod chakra
00:17:07is awakened.
00:17:08A rose
00:17:09of nine yellow petals
00:17:11has opened
00:17:12to reveal
00:17:14a glittering,
00:17:16violet amethyst.
00:17:18You have thus received
00:17:20the second of the jewels
00:17:22with which you will
00:17:23build your body
00:17:24of light.
00:17:25Remember it always
00:17:26and treasure it well.
00:17:28After we have received
00:17:30our mystical empowerment,
00:17:32we will journey
00:17:33out over the dark gulf
00:17:34to climb the spiral ramp
00:17:37circling the Colossus.
00:17:39We will enter
00:17:40the crystal globe
00:17:41of memory
00:17:41and relive
00:17:42one of our past lives.
00:17:45Following this experience,
00:17:46we will return
00:17:48along our path
00:17:49to the astral doorway
00:17:50that leads us back
00:17:52through the dark mirror
00:17:53and into the temple
00:17:55where we will awaken
00:17:57from our hypnotic trance
00:17:58recalling our adventure
00:18:00and the knowledge
00:18:02we have gained.
00:18:03For the magician,
00:18:15his religion
00:18:16is the source
00:18:17of his power.
00:18:19He calls upon God
00:18:20or the gods
00:18:21to aid him
00:18:23in his quest
00:18:24for wisdom,
00:18:26inner strength
00:18:27and enlightenment.
00:18:29But what is the best
00:18:31religion for a magician?
00:18:32Most of us
00:18:34have been raised
00:18:34in one or another
00:18:35of the biblically-based faiths,
00:18:38none of which
00:18:38are supportive
00:18:39of the practice of magic.
00:18:42And yet,
00:18:43old King Solomon
00:18:44was deemed
00:18:46to have been
00:18:46the greatest magician
00:18:48of the ages.
00:18:50What was his religion?
00:18:52Judaism?
00:18:54Well, officially, perhaps.
00:18:57But I believe
00:18:59that King Solomon's
00:19:01secret religion
00:19:02was the same
00:19:03as Melchizedek's
00:19:05a thousand years earlier.
00:19:07The ancient religion
00:19:09behind the Bible,
00:19:11the oldest religion,
00:19:14the religion
00:19:14of ancient Canaan
00:19:16and Phoenicia,
00:19:17the religion
00:19:18of King Solomon's friend,
00:19:20King Hiram of Tyre,
00:19:22who helped him
00:19:23to build the great temple
00:19:25in Jerusalem,
00:19:27the temple to God.
00:19:28But how did they spell
00:19:30God's name?
00:19:33With such a vision
00:19:34shining
00:19:35out of the mists
00:19:37of time,
00:19:38there came a compulsion
00:19:40to resurrect
00:19:42this ancient
00:19:43magical religion.
00:19:47Before the 1930s
00:19:49discovery
00:19:50of an ancient
00:19:51Canaanite
00:19:51royal library
00:19:52unearthed
00:19:53at Rosh Hashem-Ra,
00:19:55dating back
00:19:56to the time
00:19:56of Melchizedek,
00:19:58we had no clear
00:19:59idea of the original
00:20:01magical religion
00:20:02that lay behind
00:20:03our Bible.
00:20:04The Bible relates
00:20:05that the legendary
00:20:06Canaanite priest-king
00:20:08Melchizedek
00:20:08had given
00:20:09the holy sacraments
00:20:11and priestly dispensation
00:20:12to Father Abraham.
00:20:14And in the New Testament,
00:20:17Jesus is said

00:20:22we had only
00:20:23the biased accounts
00:20:24of later Hebrew

00:20:26in the Old Testament

00:20:29Christian reports
00:20:30from classical times
00:20:31concerning the
00:20:33oldest religion.
00:20:34Before the translations
00:20:35of the recently
00:20:36discovered
00:20:37Rosh Hashem-Ra tablets
00:20:38became available
00:20:40in the 1950s,
00:20:42our limited knowledge
00:20:43of the ancient
00:20:44Phoenician mysteries
00:20:45was summed up

00:47:49It is well known that the four grail hallows, being the sword, the lance, the chalice,
00:48:01and the shield or platter, are symbolic of the four philosophical elements of air, fire, water, and earth,
00:48:09which in turn represent the four suits of the tarot.
00:48:13What is not so well known is that these symbolic weapons and implements,
00:48:18and their use in sacred ritual, predate the Judeo-Christian tradition.

00:49:35the chalice is filled with the life-giving essence of fermented honey,
00:49:40rather than the blood and death surrogate of wine.

00:50:12There are two great mysteries and magics attendant to this rite.
00:50:17The first is the personal transubstantiation of the Eucharist itself,
00:50:22an internal alchemy made more meaningful with the ingestion of a seminal sacrament,
00:50:27which relates to the second great mystery of the holy shrine itself,
00:50:32within which the true configuration of the cherubim in the Holy of Holies is revealed.
00:50:38For was it not written in the Seferazohar that,
00:50:41in the temple, hidden and concealed, is the secret of the Holy of Holies,
00:50:47which are the two cherubs of Zaire, Anpin, and Malkuth.
00:50:51The Holy of Holies above is the secret of the supernal chukmah and bina,
00:50:56similarly, the groom and the bride.
00:51:11In recent years, our High Communion has been presented in total silence,
00:51:29with spiritual music in the background.
00:51:32The symbolic gestures of our acolytes, our deacon, and our priest and priestess,

01:04:18One of the most remarkable events in the history of Western magic occurred during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
01:04:26The most brilliant scholar of Renaissance England was Dr. John Dee.
01:04:32But Dr. John Dee was also a secret agent for the crown, the queen's royal astrologer, and a ceremonial magician.
01:04:44For five years, Dee and his scryer Edward Kelly invoked a number of mysterious angels who gave them a secret magical language and a complex system of invocation.
01:05:00This angelic language was called Enochian after the biblical prophet Enoch.
01:05:08And it was cryptically displayed on tablets said to be the watchtowers of the universe.
01:05:15This Enochian system of magic was partially published in 1659 in a remarkable book called A True and Faithful Relation of what passed for many years between Dr. John Dee and some spirits, tending, had it succeeded, to a general alteration of most states and kingdoms in the world.
01:05:39Now in today's New Age terminology, the magical process detailed in this book would be called channeling.
01:05:47But this 16th century Enochian revelation was far more phenomenal and profound than the later 19th century accounts of Summerland given by spiritualist mediums and the more recent extraterrestrial teachings of the New Age channelers.
01:06:07Neither can Enochian speech be likened to the glossolalia of historical fundamentalists speaking in tongues.
01:06:15This Enochian language actually has a syntax and a grammar.
01:06:19It can be spoken, translated, and understood by both disembodied spirits and by the magicians who summon them.
