00:00Hi there. Hi. Good morning, Henry. How are you? Good morning. So I'm Dash from Malena in Pierre. Awesome. Good to see you, Dash. It's very early over there. Thank you for waking up or staying up. Appreciate it. No worries. No worries. Pleasure speaking to you. I just watched a movie. A fantastic job. You did a fantastic job. Thank you. So congratulations. And my first question to you is that your character's name in the movie is Tua. I see that you seem to use Curris a lot.
00:29Yeah. You know, so I just wanted to ask, how did the idea of, you know, tapping into the Malaysian folklore of how Tua came about?
00:36Yeah, for me, it was, you know, I was I was talking with Victoria Mahoney, our director, and she really wanted me to have a say as to who this character was. And so it gave me free reign to kind of create a history. And I really wanted to put my history, my Malaysian roots into this character.
00:56So we were playing around with a couple names. And she had two in particular. And Tua was was one of them. And from my time growing up in Malaysia, and I was always enamored with this idea of the folklore of Hang Tua.
01:11And I was like, this is perfect. Like, this is exactly what it was kind of meant to be weirdly. And, and then she was like, all right, what kind of what kind of weapon would would would would to have?
01:25And as it has to be a crisp, because this is this is traditionally a Malayan weapon from Pencha Silat, as well as sort of Indonesian and that that region.
01:36So I don't think we've ever sort of seen kind of in a in a Hollywood setting or a Hollywood movie representation in that sense.
01:45So I'm really proud that we're able to do it. And and I hope they hope the Malaysians and the Southeast Asians kind of catch on that, like, that is for the area for sure.
01:55Right. And yes, as Malaysians, we are very proud of the fact that, you know, you decided to tap into that. Also, my second question, could you briefly describe the role of Tua?
02:06Yes. So Tua is is is is a newcomer to the old guard, but he is one of the older of the immortals.
02:14So the only person that knew of his existence was is Andy and and by choice and by design, because I think millennia ago, he he decided to sort of become the recluse who kind of became the historian to really research who the immortals are and what effect they had.
02:35And what effect they have on civilizations and to kind of understand what we are.
02:42And so he he cataloged all of the journeys, all of the legends that that these people, all the trails that the immortals had left through time and to see if there was there was any patterns that he could come up with.
02:58So he's been he's been a bookworm. He's been he's been working away at it for many a year.
03:05So what aspect of his character would you say that kind of resembles you in real life?
03:11I think, you know, I think there's parts of me sometimes where I just love to be alone and I love kind of doing my own thing, be it sort of photography or even computer games or watching a movie like I just love my own time.
03:28I'm very comfortable in that. And I think Tua is definitely that kind of guy.
03:34So, yeah, I'd say that aspect.
03:37And how would you look at All God 2 in your filmography? How does this action, you know, add to your filmography?
03:44No, I you know, I love action. I wish I wish we got more of it in this one, but hopefully there'll be more to come.
03:54But I think it's, you know, not only is the is is the action amazing, but it's the human element is the it's the the struggle with this idea of living forever.
04:05It's the struggle of, like, what repercussions does that have on the human psyche and how loss affects you over the thousands of years, you know?
04:22Right. All right. So thank you so much to me and wishing you all the best.
04:27Thank you so much. Thank you.
04:29Bye. Take care. Bye.
