00:00Tonight the D-backs look to build upon their series opening victory in game two

00:06of four against the visiting San Francisco Giants. And then you know the

00:10extension for Bob Melvin maybe that puts a little life into this Giants lineup.

00:14We'll see what happens here tonight. Zach Gallin you have a player who's

00:17trying to salvage his career right now or at least it seems like this season in

00:21need of salvaging. The number of walks which has probably led to the runs

00:25allowed. He's allowed the third most walks in baseball and the second most

00:29runs amongst any qualified starter in the majors. Start over again. Just imagine

00:33that this is the beginning of the season tonight and work from this point

00:37forward and forget what's happened up to this point. As Mike Yastrzemski stands in

00:41we are just about ready to see if the Giants can snap this three game losing

00:45streak and get a win here in Phoenix tonight. On the ground and a base hit.

00:50That's the diving Marte and that's how this game gets started. Zach's struggle has

00:54been one of the big mysteries of this season but the root of the problem

00:57really lies in that location. Elliott's gone into a little bit of a funk.

01:02Three consecutive fastballs and he threw it right by him.

01:05And just challenged him with four seam fastballs the entire at bat.

01:09Rafael Devers 61 and 17 home runs with both the Red Sox and the Giants after his trade from Boston

01:15on June the 15th. He goes into this at bat having struck out 12 times in his last 15 at bats.

01:21Yastrzemski on the move. Swing and a miss. McCann the throw.

01:25I think that might have hit. Yes. I think it did.

01:28Well put it in a real good spot James McCann. Yastrzemski's in there. Stolen base number six.

01:33Wilmer Flores steps in. Fastball and it's lifted into shallow right center field.

01:38McCarthy in. Breaks and hauls it in. And that's going to do it for the Giants.

01:44In the top of the first inning. A leadoff single by Yastrzemski but nothing to come from it.

01:49Zach Gallin has struck out three of the first five.

01:52Adamas won for four last night. He does have some numbers against

01:56Gallin that are kind of hard to believe. Yeah 0 for 16 lifetime.

02:00Here's a swing and a drive to left field. And deep. And it is gone. Adamas.

02:06The home run to put the Giants on the board is 10th of the year.

02:11Right on cue. 0 for 16. Not anymore. Dwayne. He's had enough.

02:16He needed that one. They haven't had a home run yet on the road trip. He threw them one too many

02:21curveballs this time. I wanted to get that ball down off the plate and make him chase.

02:27But he just kind of left that one up. And that's why Adamas is able to get to it.

02:30Here's Daniel Johnson. Pitch from Gallin. And Johnson drives one into the gap in right center field.

02:35That's a hit. It's going to go all the way to the wall. Johnson can really run to second.

02:39And he's going to stop there as Thomas got to the ball quickly. Then the ball gets away.

02:44And Johnson will break for third. And he's going to make it there without a play.

02:48That is some heads up base running and some head scratching defense.

02:52Yeah. These are the little things here that really drives Torrey crazy.

02:56You know, he likes to play that clean game of baseball. Don't give him anything extra.

03:00Giants lead 1-0. Runner at third, 1-out.

03:03Slowly hit. Contact play is on. The only play to be made is at first. Bailey gets the job done. It's 2-0.

03:11That error is really costly right now.

03:14Sure is. Here's Tyler Fitzgerald. There's the swing and miss. And another Gallin strikeout.

03:20Puts an end to the second. Hayden Burtzong. He's the starter. Right-hander. 23-year-old for the Giants.

03:25Look, his struggles coincide right with the losing streak of San Francisco coming into play today.

03:30Jake McCarthy. Jake's bat heating up. He's hitting five straight. Strike three called.

03:36Got the high slider and got his third strikeout. That's six straight retired by Burtzong

03:42to begin this game. To the third inning we go. Top of the order coming up for the Giants.

03:46They lead the D-backs 2-0. That'll bring up Devers. It was another strikeout for Devers in the first inning.

03:52We mentioned it at the top of the broadcast. Gallin has had a real issue with giving up

03:56the home run this year. As Devers swings, lines it over first. That's down for a hit.

04:01And it's going to roll all the way to the wall. McCarthy will pick it up there. Devers on his way

04:07to second. And you'll love to see that. I think he needed that. He needed that. And that can change

04:13the whole feeling for the rest of the day moving forward. And the rest of the series,

04:18the rest of the road trip. Here's Wilmer Flores. Flores a swing and a line drive base hit into

04:24center field. Here comes Devers around third. Thomas' throw. It is up the line and Devers

04:31slides in safely. It looked like he came up with a little bit of a limp and we'll see if the D-backs

04:36decide to challenge. Yes, they will. And Devers, you know, nursing a little bit of the growing.

04:41You can see it. He's kind of grimacing here. Tried to turn on the next gear.

04:46A nice job of McCann to get into foul territory to receive that throw. Oh, they got him. They

04:51absolutely got him. Yeah. James McCann with a terrific tag right there. And the foot is not

04:57yet on the plate. What a great throw by Alec Thomas. And really a nice play by McCann also making that,

05:04getting that ball, making that tag. It's going to be the third outfield assist of the season for

05:10Thomas. It sends us to the bottom of the third. Kind of a strikeout clinic right now for these two

05:15pitchers. For Birdsong, that was his fifth. And now Perdomo flew out to shallow left his first time

05:20up. RBI chance. Swung on. Line drive over the leaping effort of Fitzgerald into right. Here comes McCann

05:27around third. He will score. And Perdomo makes him pay. And RBI single to make it two to one. Mistake.

05:35The pass ball puts McCann in scoring position. Perdomo cashes in on it. Giants lead two to one

05:41bottom of the fourth inning. Juarez, Gurriel, McCarthy middle third of the order here against

05:46Birdsong who had a long bottom of the third. The one hurt Birdsong. Off the plate with a fastball

05:51and Geno's aboard making three walks now. He walked two in the last inning, Birdsong. He'd been rolling

05:57with a long seven up seven down. He's now walked three the last six. And Geno is on board ahead of

06:03Lourdes Gurriel who's flying out in the second. Birdsong started to spray it around a little bit more.

06:10So that's six balls and no strikes. So that means Birdsong has got to come in the strike zone right here.

06:16And he's missing and he's missing with fastballs. Seven straight balls to start the getting from Hayden

06:22Birdsong. I think McCarthy hoping to take advantage. That's eight consecutive balls to start the

06:28fourth inning for Birdsong who suddenly has fallen off the rails. And eight balls in a row usually gets

06:33your mound visit from somebody. Birdsong working himself into more trouble here. I have a feeling I

06:41know what he said to him in that mound visit. Yeah probably. Quit walking guys. Stop walking guys.

06:45Two on over the out for Jake who struck out looking to win the second his first time on. McCarthy gives it a ride.

06:53And there it goes. A no downer for McCarthy. His second of the year. The second of the year for Jake

07:02who's hitting six straight and the Diamondbacks have grand to lead. That Hayden Birdsong throws in this

07:08inning after ten straight balls ends up in the right field seats. Four to two. D-backs leading the

07:15Giants top of the fifth inning. Patrick Bailey to lead off and once again. Swing and a foul tip.

07:19Bailey down on strikes. Boy excellent fastball once again by Gallen. Feeling it right now. Right there.

07:27Zach Gallen dots a two strike fastball. He struck out two in a row and seven in the ball game. I really like

07:33the fastball usage from Zach Gallen tonight. Swing and a miss. He struck him out and Gallen strikes out the

07:40side in order. This is the rookie right-hander Carson Seymour making only his second

07:44career appearance. Here's Gurriel. Lerdes lifts it to left center. That one's on its way and it's gone.

07:52Gurriel second consecutive game with a home run. And right now when the Giants make a mistake

07:58they're getting punished. Gritchick against Seymour who stays in the game. Giants are down

08:02six to two bottom six. Now a swing. That ball blasted. High and deep center field. Look at this thing.

08:08Look at it fly. Over the overhang and gone. 453 feet. Yikes.

08:15Each team with five hits. James McCann gives one a ride and this one is on its way.

08:22They go back to back. Eight to two thumping being handed out by Arizona. Dominic Smith

08:30starts off the seventh against Zach Gallen who set down nine consecutive Giants now. Marte's got it.

08:36There's an all-star catch. 110 off the bat of Dom Smith and Marte has snagged it for the first out.

08:44The one-two pitch. And he did. Swing and a miss. Johnson down on strikes. And that's a 10 strikeout

08:51performance for Zach Gallen. Certainly looking like his old self. Seven innings two runs allowed.

08:57We go to the ninth inning. Last chance for the Giants in this one. And the D-backs have themselves

09:03an eight to two lead. Dominic Smith the last chance for the Giants. He swings. He grounds it

09:09towards second. Sliding Cattell. Pops to his feet and he throws to first. In-time ball game.

09:16The Diamondbacks win by a final score of eight to two. And this one ends with another night of

09:24disappointment for the Giants. They got outplayed in this one big time.
