00:00Following the collapse of the river wall in Navota City last weekend,
00:04relocation support for the displaced families are now being arranged,
00:08while the Navota City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, or CDRRMO,
00:14confirmed that residents live in the safe areas are now allowed to return to their homes.
00:19Furthermore, the reconstruction of the river wall is expected to start in the coming days.
00:25JM Pineda has the details.
00:26Christine still recalls how the water surged rapidly from the river after the protective dike collapsed last weekend.
00:35The river was also high tide that time, causing waters to rise above head level.
00:39Christine said that this is not the first time her community has been hit by major flooding.
00:44That is why she fears for the safety of her family.
00:56Christine's home is located just a few meters from the collapsed river wall.
01:08She and her neighbors were among those evacuated over the weekend as flood water surge.
01:12They were only able to return yesterday after water levels subsided.
01:16The Navota City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said that only those residents live in the safe areas were allowed to return.
01:42Clearing operation by MMDA began in the houses of the six affected families.
01:46And once cleared, reconstruction of the river wall will start, providing a critical barrier between the river and nearby residences.
01:53This project is a joint effort between the local government and the private landowner in the area.
01:58Authorities also said that the reconstruction is expected to begin in the coming days.
02:02Relocation support is also being arranged for the displaced families, especially the six families living right next to the river wall.
02:35Residents living near the river like Christina are also expected to receive housing support.
02:40Halos lahat po sila ay nakalista na.
02:42Ang concern lang po natin dito, syempre, ay we are talking about a scarce resource na marami hong umaasa.
03:01Livelihood programs and training also be offered to help affected families to recover.
03:05Authorities continue to remind residents near the river to stay alert as rising water levels remain a possibility.
03:12JM Pineda from the National TV Network for New and Better Philippines.
