00:00For close to a century, women have more than held their own in the male-dominated industry
00:29of sports entertainment.
00:31There's your winner, Mae Young.
00:33Matt mavens like Mae Young helped shatter the proverbial glass ceiling, inspiring generations
00:40who would blaze a path.
00:43It's a blaze for sure!
00:45Taking their preternatural skills to unprecedented heights.
00:50All or nothing under the moonsault!
00:52The power and strength of the Glamazon.
00:55Twin magic.
00:56Leading to a revolution in the women's division.
01:00What a sight!
01:02A groundbreaking moment!
01:04The celebration of a new era in WWE!
01:08The greatest era of women's wrestling of all time!
01:12Now, for the first time in history, 32 women from all over the globe take their rightful
01:21place in the spotlight, celebrating the legacies of those who have paved the way while showcasing
01:28their modern-day virtuosity.
01:32Tonight, these 32 competitors buy for all the glory, the honor, and the prestige of winning
01:41the inaugural Mae Young Classic.
01:43The
02:13The stakes could not be higher for 32 proud women as they compete in the inaugural May
02:23Young Classic.
02:25We're ready to make history.
02:29Well, the crowd is jacked, as are we.
02:32Thanks for being with us, everybody.
02:33I'm Jim Ross, alongside WWE Hall of Famer Lita.
02:3632 women from 13 countries are here.
02:40Somebody's going to walk away the inaugural winner of this tournament.
02:43These women are so excited.
02:44I'm so excited.
02:45And look at this, JR.
02:47We are making history tonight.
02:48It is the personal journey of 32 competitors.
02:51It culminates right here in the May Young Classic.
02:54And I could not be more proud to be a part of this event.
02:58Two skilled veterans will kick it off here tonight.
03:01One from Scotland, one from Mexico.
03:04They've got great skill sets.
03:05Let's take a closer look at Kaylee Ray and Princess Suhey.
03:09Princess Suhey is the only woman in the place where I was training in the gymnasium.
03:24And Suhey is the meaning of the queen of the stars.
03:27Ahorita, this design that I bring is also the revolution of Princess Suhey.
03:33Princess Suhey has decades of experience.
03:37I can only express and feel that I'm very happy to be representing Mexico in this tournament.
03:46Princess Suhey comes prepared to win the tournament.
03:49My name is Kaylee Ray.
03:55I am the hardcore daredevil.
03:58I got that moniker because I'm not scared to do anything and just go for it.
04:03An eight-year pro describes her style as hardcore and risk-taking.
04:07I'm a daredevil.
04:08I do love the adrenaline rush.
04:10Kaylee Ray doing what she does best, going to the high-risk district.
04:13But my strikes, my submissions, is all just up to scratch just as much as my high-fly.
04:20And I just want to go in and absolutely kill it.
04:22And I just hope that I can show that I'm here for a reason.
04:25And I'm not going to let this pass lightly.
04:28Ooh!
04:29Down the road, it's here, down!
04:30Ooh!
04:31Ooh!
04:31Ooh!
04:32Ooh!
04:33Ooh!
04:34Ooh!
04:35Ooh!
04:36Ooh!
04:37Ooh!
04:38Ooh!
04:39Ooh!
04:40Ooh!
04:41Ooh!
04:42Ooh!
04:46Two great veterans, stakes couldn't be higher, one's going to advance, one's going home.
04:54The following is a first-round match, skips us for one fall, from the Mae Young Classic,
04:59with a 15-minute time limit.
05:01Making your way to the ring, from Glasgow, Scotland, Kaylee Ray!
05:06All the way from Glasgow, the eight-year pro, an admitted lead-up hardcore athlete.
05:18Kaylee Ray says she's an adrenaline junkie.
05:21She's going to have to rein that in and stay focused against Princessa Suhey.
05:25Can you identify with being an adrenaline junkie?
05:28I will admit, JR, I can identify with Kaylee Ray on that one.
05:33You know that, JR, when you asked that question.
05:37It was a rhetorical question.
05:38Well, the thing about this tournament, ladies and gentlemen, as far as history, we've talked
05:44about a lot about history, but the format is very unique.
05:49Single elimination.
05:50More on that momentarily.
05:51And her opponent, from Monterrey, Mexico, Princessa Suhey!
06:02So, every match is a sudden-death environment, inasmuch as that only the winners in this tournament
06:08advance.
06:14Princessa Suhey!
06:16Is a, uh, over 20-year veteran, Lita.
06:25You were telling me she started wrestling when she was 16.
06:28She's one of nine children.
06:30She's the only athlete.
06:31She is the most experienced competitor in this entire tournament.
06:35So, it'll be the lucha style of Princessa Suhey!
06:42And the hardcore, high-flying style of Kaylee Ray.
06:49The handshake setting the tone for this tournament.
06:56Everyone kind of going in fair and square with their eye on that prize.
07:00Kaylee Ray!
07:01Kaylee Ray!
07:02Kaylee Ray!
07:03Kaylee Ray!
07:04Kaylee Ray, I would think, looked up.
07:06There's a little mind game here, but Kaylee Ray very, very aggressive.
07:10And she's going to want to control this pace here because the high-flying lucha libre style
07:16of Princessa Suhey is going to be hard to deal with.
07:22I guess my point is, Lita, is that the Princessa's style may be the most unique in the entire tournament.
07:30Oh!
07:31Princessa Suhey is a bona fide luchador.
07:35Kaylee Ray is going to have to use her submission if she wants to ground Princessa Suhey and take that lucha style away from her.
07:45You ground the high flyer, you've got a better chance of winning.
07:48I'm sure that Kaylee Ray, the eight-year veteran from Glasgow, is aware of that.
07:52And the scoop and the cradle near fall created by the masked luchador.
07:59And that's a very confusing style.
08:02Lita, the thing about it is, oh, now look at a submission here by Kaylee Ray, looking to end it early.
08:10And the, oh, my God, Princessa Suhey slamming Kaylee Ray, the back of her head bouncing off the canvas, creates a near fall.
08:23The uniqueness of the Mexican style can be really problematic, is my point, if you don't see it often.
08:34You see Princessa Suhey, she sees those tiny opportunities she has and stays right on it.
08:46I would guess right here, going up for that lucha libre style that she is comfortable with.
08:52Princessa rolling through that errant flip, but then catches the knee on the outside.
08:57So Kaylee Ray is kind of dancing with her heavy strikes.
09:02And the bottom line here, Lita, is that the high flyer's been grounded.
09:07And there's a cover.
09:08Kaylee Ray looking for a three, found a two count.
09:11You know, you could see Princessa Suhey adjusting her mask there as much as it is tradition to wear that mask.
09:17It can inhibit her peripheral vision, and I don't know that she saw that coming from Kaylee Ray.
09:22I've always heard about the breathing issues too.
09:27Did you ever wrestle in a mask?
09:29I never wrestled in a mask.
09:31I really wanted to.
09:32Me neither.
09:33Kaylee Ray may look back on this match and say, maybe I gave Princessa a little too much room.
09:43And the counter and the kicks now.
09:52A flurry of offense by the masked female.
09:59Oh, nice.
10:01High impact.
10:02Face first.
10:03Going to reverse DDP.
10:05There's that submission.
10:06This is Kaylee Ray's opportunity.
10:08If she can lock that in.
10:11Kaylee has been dogmatic in trying to get a submission win here.
10:16You know, I'm really impressed with how Kaylee Ray is facing against.
10:20Shoulders down.
10:22Nice ring awareness by Princessa Suhey.
10:25Roll out of that.
10:26Great thing about the Princessa is she doesn't make many mistakes.
10:30That's a veteran in her coming to the forefront in this high-stakes match again.
10:35It's all about winning and advancing.
10:37And it's a long way back to Scotland.
10:39It's a long way back to Mexico.
10:41Oh.
10:46Princessa's kicks for the quadricep movement.
10:49Very effective.
10:50Head scissor takeover.
10:52I'm in there.
10:54Uh-oh.
10:55Oh.
10:57I'm in here.
10:58вся.
10:59Princessa.
11:01Well, some old school offense.
11:04Into a pinning predicament there.
11:05And Kaylee Ray very, very lucky.
11:08She was able to time her shoulders bring up.
11:11When the hand was coming down.
11:12And another kick very effective kicking offense by Princessa Suhey.
11:17Hey, Kaylee Ray is in trouble.
11:20I mean, first of all, she's dizzy and then just got.
11:22Oh.
11:28And near fall from the CMLL Female Cup winner in 2016.
11:38Yeah, good call, J.R.
11:39Princessa is used to winning tournaments and all of her time here.
11:44Let's see if she's able to win this tonight.
11:47Well, everybody's in a must win situation in every match.
11:51Princessa blocks another kick.
11:54Princessa's kicks have become her best weapon in the last several moments.
12:00And Kaylee Ray.
12:03Got to get that cover, Kaylee.
12:07Kaylee is a little deliberate here and going for the cover body on body.
12:12And Princessa able to kick out.
12:15Kaylee can't believe it, but quite frankly, if she looks back at this again,
12:20maybe a little slow on her trigger.
12:26Beautiful execution.
12:30This is where Kaylee is comfortable taking a risk up here.
12:33The hardcore Daredevil took a big chance.
12:36Nobody in the pool.
12:37That is Lara Hia.
12:40She has won many matches if Princessa Suhey could lock this in.
12:46Princessa trying to hyperextend the arm, the left arm, and there's a tap.
12:52Kaylee Ray has no option but to tap out as Princessa Suhey wins the first match in the
13:03Maia Young Classic.
13:10The most experienced performer in this tournament wins by submission lead.
13:19Risk reward.
13:22Right here, you see Princessa in the middle of the ring.
13:25That's that veteran maneuver.
13:26Kaylee Ray has no option but to tap out.
13:29Here's your winner by submission, Princessa Suhey.
13:33The only competitor from Mexico in this tournament wins by submission here in our first event.
13:47We'll say goodbye to Kaylee Ray as she heads back to Glasgow.
13:51And there's a quick look at the bracket just updated for you.
13:56Princessa Suhey wins it.
14:00Well, ladies and gentlemen, we have an outstanding matchup coming up next.
14:04A familiar face, Serena Deet will take on a former Arizona Cardinal cheerleader, Vanessa Bourne.
14:12Here's more on both these talented young athletes.
14:16There is no one that's better than Vanessa Bourne, there is no one like Vanessa Bourne.
14:25Vanessa Bourne, someone who is no stranger to the spotlight, a former Phoenix Suns dancer,
14:32Arizona Cardinals cheerleader.
14:33It's not a surprise to me that I'm here.
14:36I should be here, I'm not good.
14:38Vanessa Bourne, wow!
14:41I want to be the best, I want to be the most dominant.
14:45Vanessa Bourne has just propelled herself into the field of 32 for the Mae Young Classic.
14:52I'm more than just a cheerleader, I'm more than just someone on the sidelines.
14:55I'm a superstar, so I have to win.
15:03My name is Serena Deeb.
15:05When I began my wrestling career, I had the intention of becoming the greatest women's wrestler in the world.
15:13It has been a while since we have seen Serena in a WWE ring.
15:17I got a chance here in 2010 to be part of the Straight Edge Society, but it was cut a lot shorter than I had hoped.
15:26I was irresponsibly using alcohol, so the consequences were handed to me.
15:32This tournament is a time of redemption for me.
15:39I got myself back up after I fell, and I'm going to work harder than anybody else.
15:45That's what I'm coming to this tournament to represent, is not just the in-ring, but the whole entire journey of the last 12 years of my life.
15:52It is a hot night here in Orlando.
16:00Full Sail University is rocking.
16:04The WWE Mae Young Classic is brought to you by Rocket League, an award-winning hybrid of arcade soccer and driving.
16:13Rocket League is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and Steam PC.
16:22And there is Naomi.
16:23We're glad she's with us as well, Lina.
16:25Look at that smile on Naomi's face.
16:27As busy as she is, she had to be here in the Mae Young Classic tonight, showing her love for these women.
16:34No stranger to Orlando is Naomi, former Orlando Magic cheerleader back in the day.
16:41Great athlete, too.
16:43The following contest is scheduled for one fall, making her way to the ring, from Fairfax, Virginia, Serena Deeb.
17:02Well, as far as I'm concerned, by simply being in this tournament, Serena Deeb is a winner.
17:11I agree with you, JR.
17:13I love seeing that calm Serena just walk into the ring.
17:17She knows who she is at this point.
17:19She's come full circle to be right back where she belongs in a WWE ring.
17:25Seven Japanese tours in her career for the Indiana University graduate.
17:43This is a unique comparison here, a rookie and a veteran.
17:47And her opponent, making her way to the ring, from Scottsdale, Arizona, Vanessa Bourne.
17:55You know, lead of all the ladies we talked with at the end of the tournament,
17:59I don't know that we met any that were more confident than Vanessa Bourne.
18:03JR, I want to see this match up because when I spoke with Vanessa Bourne, you know what I thought?
18:08Who are you trying to convince? Me or you.
18:10And I want to see if she can back up that confidence in the ring.
18:14Vanessa was trained by a couple of familiar names, two WWE fans, Rakishi and Gangrel.
18:23The young lady is of Samoan heritage and was an Arizona Cardinals cheerleader,
18:28named Phoenix Suns, a dancer.
18:34Scottsdale, Arizona.
18:35Serena's been on a two-year hiatus.
18:44She got her life together.
18:46It's a beautiful story.
18:47We're proud of her.
18:48I am too, JR.
18:50And also, look, I am proud to see the first female referee since the 80s in Jessica Carr right here.
18:55Colorado bow tie up.
19:00Both ladies jockeying for the position here and still staying locked up.
19:06And Serena counters Vanessa Bourne.
19:10And we talked about the confidence when we interviewed Vanessa.
19:20The focus, recounting her journey.
19:24What an emotional conversation we had with Serena.
19:27Yeah, I mean, she's been through so much.
19:30She's worked so hard.
19:32And you can see right there, I don't know, that she has missed a beat in her time away from the ring
19:38because she looks like she is right where she belongs.
19:41We mentioned that two-year hiatus.
19:43And I think as a result of that, we're seeing very fundamental in-ring skills.
19:48Two nice arm drag takeovers.
19:50Very fundamental, very sound by Serena Deep.
19:53Before that, the waist lock, the go-behind.
19:56So Serena is going back to her fundamentals that she learned in OVW in Louisville back in the day.
20:03Yeah, you know, good point, JR.
20:05I like both of these women are actually keeping it really basic right now,
20:08which Vanessa Bourne is looking really solid as well as Serena Deep.
20:16Serena, the veteran, lands on her feet.
20:19And oh, what a headbutt.
20:21Goodness gracious, a mighty headbutt.
20:24You mentioned that Samoan heritage earlier, JR, and Vanessa Bourne is using it.
20:31And now the full house here, full sail, reacting somewhat negatively over the
20:41the rule breaking.
20:42Yeah, Serena is in a little bit of trouble here.
20:45You have to find that opening.
20:49Very aggressive, bigger, stronger Vanessa Bourne.
20:54There's a lot of videotape you can study if you're Vanessa on Serena Deep,
21:04but not the other way around.
21:05So Serena's in a situation where she's got to win.
21:10Losers go home against opponents she didn't know a lot about.
21:14And another sliding headbutt, innovative offense.
21:17One, two, three.
21:19Kick out, yes.
21:19Serena's still staying alive.
21:21She's come too far to go home now.
21:23This is a handful for the veteran from the state of Virginia to deal with here in the first,
21:33her first match of the Mae Young Classic.
21:35When you're bigger and you're stronger, this is exactly what you do.
21:44I will have to give it to Vanessa Bourne.
21:47She can back up her confidence.
21:49But if I know anything about Serena Deep, I know she has more fight left in her.
21:54Do not count Serena Deep out.
21:57One thing I noticed about Serena, she's a leaner.
22:01Her cardio has been a big issue.
22:03I know she's a yoga practitioner.
22:06I'm not sure if it's the DDP yoga, but she is a yoga practitioner.
22:10A lot of us women have found the yoga.
22:12We've got to find a way to calm down after getting so fired up in that ring after all those years.
22:17Trish Stratus included.
22:23Scoop slam.
22:24Serena Deep has battled her way right back into this match like she has battled her way
22:30back into the profession.
22:33Nice Serena.
22:35Got to get that cover.
22:37Serena finally fights to the cover.
22:40Shoulders are up.
22:42Referee is in perfect position, by the way.
22:44Not an easy job.
22:49Serena may have cracked a tooth.
22:53Fireman Carey pickup.
22:57And a gut buster.
22:59Almost a go to sleep position.
23:04Serena looks ready.
23:09Serena Deep posing for what she hopes to be a finale.
23:14Oh, nobody there.
23:16Serena ate the turnbuckles.
23:18Shoulder first.
23:20Serena Deep rising in pain.
23:23May have dislocated her shoulder.
23:27And Vanessa Warren now has got an opportunity here.
23:31Swinging nut breaker.
23:33Could very well do it.
23:34Leg is hooked.
23:35And the mount position for some ground and pound.
23:49She's got to fight.
23:51She would be so devastated if her journey ended tonight.
23:55And quite frankly,
23:56Vanessa Warren may be better served to have gone for another cover than to mountain punch.
24:01You could see Vanessa Warren's frustration could be Serena Deep's opening.
24:06Another Fireman Carey pickup by Vanessa.
24:10Follow a slam.
24:12Both legs are hooked.
24:13And Serena able to get her right shoulder up.
24:17And the frustration level of Vanessa Warren is reaching epic proportions.
24:25Vanessa was a little indecisive lead about that next piece of offense.
24:34And that was the opportunity that Serena needs.
24:37You see, she gets some distance away from Vanessa Warren, potentially setting up to put
24:42the odds back in Serena's favor.
24:45Or maybe have a busted nose.
24:48There's a spear by Serena Deep.
24:50The leg is hooked tightly.
24:52And there's a three count.
24:57All the journey of salvation and redemption for Serena Deep continues
25:04in a must-win environment.
25:07Serena Deep returns from a two-year hiatus to win her backup.
25:12And the Mae Young clashes.
25:13And it did not come easy.
25:15Let's take a look.
25:16Wow.
25:18Serena with stood a lot of great offense.
25:21Innovative offense by Vanessa Warren.
25:23Follows that up.
25:25I thought this was it.
25:28One, two, three.
25:30Right shoulder, comes off the canvas at the very last moment.
25:35And that frustration is what allowed, bam, perfect spear from Serena Deep.
25:40Moving on.
25:46Here is your winner, Serena Deep.
25:50A look of determination, but not satisfaction.
25:57The journey is continuing, Lita, as we take a look at the updated bracket.
26:02It feels kind of good to see Serena Deep's name.
26:04Oh, it feels real good to see Serena Deep's name moving on.
26:08And let's go to Charlie Caruso standing by.
26:12Charlie, what do you got?
26:15Hey, everyone.
26:16Welcome on back to the Mae Young Classic.
26:19I'm Charlie Caruso coming to you from the control center.
26:22We have had plenty of action so far.
26:25Two women, Princesses Suhey and Serena Deep, have advanced to the Sweet 16.
26:30So who will be the next competitor to move on to the second round?
26:33Will it be former UFC fighter, the queen of spades, Shayna Baszler?
26:38Or will it be fellow MMA specialist, Zayda, pulling out the win?
26:47As a kid, you want to look up to a superhero and have someone save you from whatever troubles
26:53you're going through.
26:55My name is Zayda.
26:57Being bullied most of my life, I never really had that superhero to look up to.
27:03I took up martial arts as a form of self-defense.
27:09I was building myself to be the superhero that I've always needed.
27:18My background is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
27:20I'm not afraid to take a punch, not afraid to take a kick.
27:23Zayda trained martial arts to find herself.
27:26Don't underestimate me.
27:28I'm not afraid to fight.
27:33I am Shayna, the queen of spades, Baszler.
27:36I fought in mixed martial arts for 16 years.
27:38Over a decade of those, I was ranked in the top 10 in the world.
27:44My style has been developed over a long career in mixed martial arts.
27:49Nothing about that changes now that I'm here.
27:52It's just a different rule set.
27:54It's going to be a lot of things that you'd see if you were to flip on a UFC.
27:58Oh, rear naked choke!
28:00I have experience at a higher level.
28:03Nothing has to be said before I go out.
28:06Everything I show in the ring, they're going to know that's a legitimate badass in there.
28:11I have experience at a higher level.
28:16Two highly motivated, physically tough women who like to strike.
28:23Getting ready to get it on here.
28:24This should be one of the more intriguing, certainly physically intriguing matchups of the entire tournament.
28:30The following contest is scheduled for a one fall.
28:37Making your way to the ring from Two Falls, South Dakota, Shayna Baszler.
28:45Shayna Baszler did not come to this event alone.
28:48She has a very impressive support mechanism of friends who are actually sitting in ringside.
28:58Talking about the four horsewomen.
29:02Led, of course, by the incontomable Ronda Rousey.
29:09Miss Rousey.
29:10There is no better feeling than having your girls in your corner there to back you up for extra confidence.
29:23My eyes open, I can see.
29:25That's always been my cream.
29:28You're like a fan.
29:32Well, I'm looking forward to this.
29:33And her opponent, representing China from Richmond, Virginia, Seda.
29:39We have quite a connection at the show a moment, don't we?
29:42We were talking and then realized we went to the same judo club at Virginia Commonwealth University.
29:49Many years apart, but small world.
29:54What a life this young lady has endured and survived.
29:59You know, there's one way to become your own superhero, as Seda wants to set out to do,
30:04and that would be to beat Shayna Baszler.
30:11With the things in her personal life being somewhat challenging, Seda has survived that.
30:19She has not backed down from life's challenges.
30:21She will not back down from a very dangerous Shayna Baszler as well.
30:26Yeah, I mean, we could tell from talking to her, Seda has faced so many hardships and
30:32has only made her stronger and more prepared for this moment right here.
30:36No handshake from Shayna Baszler, the daughter of a wrestling coach, the niece of a wrestling coach,
30:45as first take down the match and now looking for a submission of her own after the single leg
30:53take down is Zeda.
30:57Well, it's going for that straight on by right away.
31:02Cross arm breaker attempted by Baszler.
31:05Both these women are strikers.
31:07They can wrestle, no doubt, but they lack submissions and they like to strike,
31:12as you're seeing right there.
31:15Right back to it.
31:16You don't have to be a valedictorian of Sherlock Holmes school to figure out
31:25that these women both want to win by submission.
31:28Pretty obvious.
31:30Another single leg attempt by Zeda blocked this time.
31:34I love Zeda is not afraid of Shayna Baszler going right.
31:40Wow.
31:41Baszler just overpowers people.
31:43She's so strong, extremely confident, and you want to term anybody a bully,
31:50but sometimes Shayna Baszler has bully-like tendencies in the ring.
31:57Wow.
31:59Look at those strikes.
32:00There is power behind that.
32:02Dehabilitating strikes on the woman that was trained by Josh Barnett.
32:08Still trained by Josh Barnett for that matter.
32:10And the late great Billy Robinson, the great catch wrestler.
32:14Loved training Shayna Baszler.
32:19And Zeda trying them out.
32:22Monkey flips Baszler out of the corner.
32:27And a near fall, which quite frankly may surprise some,
32:30that Shayna Baszler just gave up an air fall.
32:33Shayna! Shayna! Shayna! Shayna! Shayna! Shayna! Shayna! Shayna!
32:39Baszler blocking.
32:42And so, Zeda takes another route.
32:46You can tell these two women have what they feel comfortable with,
32:48the holds they feel comfortable with, and they keep going back to them.
32:52Shayna had that one scouted.
32:54Oh, right into the, it's over, the tap, that's quick.
33:02Say they can feel our lights being turned out.
33:05Quickly tapped out, much to the likes of the four horsewomen.
33:09We just saw a small sample of what Shayna Baszler can do.
33:29Got into the, the sleeper, in essence.
33:33So smooth.
33:34Shayna had that so locked in.
33:39Here's your winner by submission, Shayna Baszler.
33:48Shayna Baszler will advance.
33:53And as many were predicting Lita, Shayna one of the three tournament favorites in this competition.
34:00Well, if she wasn't before, she is now.
34:12Very imposing, intimidating woman, and ladies and gentlemen, more intimidation is on the way because
34:20Jazzy Gabbard takes on Abby Lane.
34:22Interesting contrast in styles.
34:24Here's more on both ladies.
34:26My name is Jazzy Gabbard, and I'm from Germany.
34:34I had to fight hard for where I am right now.
34:40When I step into the ring, I'm a different person.
34:42It's kind of like a demon takes over.
34:46I lift people up and throw them down and destroy the little girls.
34:50Yeah, it's vicious.
34:56I want to fight.
34:58I am not here for having fun.
35:01I'm in the ring to bring total destruction.
35:06And I usually get what I want.
35:08My name is Abby Laith, and I'm from Seattle, Washington.
35:21Mae Young is a huge inspiration to me.
35:23The alligator clutch was actually passed down from her to my trainers, to me.
35:29So I feel like I'm carrying her spirit on with that.
35:33I'm the girl who will fight through any situation.
35:36I'm not going to back down from anybody.
35:41I have a strike-based style.
35:43I'll do whatever it takes to win.
35:49Abby, a very talented athlete.
35:51This is my dream, to be the first ever winner of the Mae Young Classic.
36:02Well, we thought that Shayna Baszler was intimidating.
36:05Take a look at Jazzy Gabbard when she gets out here.
36:09I like Abby's race confidence, and she's going to be challenged.
36:18The following contest is scheduled for a once ball.
36:21Making her way to the ring, from Seattle, Washington, Abby Lynn.
36:31Pretty interesting story, Lita, when you go from being a ballet dancer to
36:35Jakara's grand champion.
36:37Yeah, Abby is used to being the underdog, fighting people much bigger and stronger than her.
36:44So if that's any sort of advantage going up against Jazzy Gabbard,
36:49she's going to need every advantage she can get.
36:57Abby, 27 years of age.
37:03Losing Oz.
37:04I'll tell you, the story that we heard in the life of Jazzy Gabbard,
37:20was one of the more amazing life stories I've ever heard in my entire career.
37:25Without a doubt, JR, as strong and powerful as Jazzy Gabbard is physically,
37:31it is her internal mental struggle that gives her that vicious edge that she has in the ring.
37:38And what Lita's referring to is the fact that Gabby was an adopted child.
37:43She wanted to play sports. She wanted to fight and defeat. And the adopted family didn't like that.
37:50The adoption did not go well. At age 15, Jazzy Gabbard was on her own.
37:55And that's the life that she's lived. She's a five-time European champion. She's had multiple tours of Japan.
38:02She has become a very accomplished MMA fighter. So a very tough, physically and mentally tough competitor is Jazzy Gabbard.
38:15And she said wrestling is my family.
38:29Man, that scared me.
38:31You can't imagine what it did to Abby Lath.
38:36Abby hitting Jazzy as hard as she can. Look at these shots.
38:41Abby has no choice. Abby's gotta come with all she's got.
38:48That'll be with that federal roar and rant. And the fans are really into this thing early on.
39:00Jazzy Gabbard, the big German lady, massively strong.
39:05Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy!
39:09Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy! Jazzy
39:39This is blocking strength.
39:44Abby was ready for an arm drag takeover and didn't work out that way.
39:49Try to arm drag an SUV.
39:52Lateral press.
40:00Hard shots, all legal.
40:03And then right into the cover.
40:07Abby's got to get some distance.
40:10This pace, Lita, is not to Abby's advantage.
40:14Another beat down and the cover and another near fall.
40:18The more deliberate pace, Jazzy is in the driver's seat here.
40:23Look at the trouble that Abby is in right now.
40:30Abby's used to ducking, dodging, and weaving and being faster,
40:33but Jazzy is eating up Abby right now.
40:37Abby late trying to counter it with a, it looked like a head scissors moments ago to no avail.
40:44Jazzy Gabbard just too big and too strong for the offense that Abby late is trying to utilize.
40:52Finally, the head scissor works or did it with this strength.
40:59Well, whoa, right back into another submission.
41:04Those massive legs, body scissors, Abby late.
41:09You don't see too many body scissors anymore.
41:11When you've got long legs and you're strong, it's a pretty good weapon.
41:14And certainly Jazzy qualifies in both accounts.
41:18That might be the distance that Abby needed, but Jazzy's going to be right back on top of Abby.
41:24Power, the brawn, the mass.
41:33Again, a deliberate pace.
41:34You see why, folks.
41:35You see why the pace is so deliberate from Jazzy.
41:39Positions Abby in a very vulnerable position in the corner and then lets loose these body shots.
41:52Even a snap mirror is effective when you're this big and strong.
41:56The thing is, too, being that smaller competitor that Abby is, it takes so much strength just trying to get away, to get free.
42:09A perfectly executed game plan thus far by the powerhouse from Berlin, Germany.
42:17Jazzy is imposing her will on Abby.
42:23Heard the impact.
42:24Wow.
42:26Abby Laith felt the impact.
42:27Does she know where she is right now?
42:30Look at the eyes of Abby.
42:31And the referee was surveying the impact to make sure that Abby was able to defend herself.
42:36And she apparently is caught in midair like a small child.
42:40Whoa.
42:41Scoop slammed with authority.
42:43And that, well, that's not going to get it.
42:45Jazzy.
42:46Jazzy getting kind of caught in the moment here.
42:49And a very fundamentally unsound cover.
42:54Off the back door comes Abby Laith off the backside.
43:05And, oh, look at this.
43:09Wow.
43:10Innovated by Abby Laith.
43:13She's only got four seconds, but it does seem to have rocked Jazzy Gabbert just a little bit.
43:18At least disoriented.
43:19Jazzy got her out of her game a little bit.
43:22Hard kick.
43:23Jazzy kind of stubborn.
43:24In the pocket.
43:25Getting kicked now three times.
43:26Got to move, Abby.
43:27Got to move.
43:28Abby Laith said she'd like to strike.
43:29She was accurate.
43:30She was right.
43:31She's good at it.
43:32There's a cover.
43:33And Jazzy kicking out before the three.
43:40And a match that now has gone from domination by Jazzy Gabbert to retaliation from Abby Laith.
43:58Abby's got to stay in this driver's seat and find that opening for just three seconds is all she needs.
44:08Jazzy up quickly.
44:09Catching.
44:10Uh-oh.
44:11That could be bad.
44:12Could be really bad.
44:13Backbreaker position.
44:14Counter with an arm drag.
44:16And a scissors kick finds its mark.
44:19One to the solar plexus.
44:21Low drop kick.
44:22And a scissor kick finds its mark.
44:24One to the solar plexus.
44:26Low drop kick.
44:29A chain of all connected offense.
44:33The low kicks in a variety of shapes and fashion.
44:38Successfully utilized by Abby Laith.
44:43Abby going up to the high rent district.
44:49Oh!
44:50Nice!
44:51Can she hook this in?
44:52The senton off the top!
44:54But not enough!
44:55Wow!
44:56I'm with you, Abby.
44:57I can't believe it either.
44:58That's a scary woman right there.
44:59And I mean that in the nicest ways ladies and gentlemen.
45:01Scary and a good scary.
45:02Oh!
45:03Larry Ato!
45:04And then the belt.
45:05Round and pound.
45:06Is Abby trying to cover up?
45:07And who wouldn't?
45:08Who shouldn't?
45:09That's the scary woman you were talking about, J.R., yeah?
45:24Yeah.
45:25Now that was the last week.
45:29The best.
45:30The 있죠.
45:31The list.
45:32The lift.
45:33It's really good.
45:34It's brilliant.
45:35Shazzy back in control.
45:36Size and power does it again, seemingly.
45:37This could be it.
45:38Abby is in trouble.
45:39No!
45:40Oh!
45:41Hey!
45:42Look, hold on!
45:43The out of gunner clucks, and Abby Laith has upset Jazzy Gabert.
45:47Just as it worked for Mae Young,
45:49it works for Abby Lath in the Mae Young Classic.
45:53She is moving on.
45:55It had to happen, right?
45:57It had to happen.
46:02Get Abby off the top with a beautiful swan tombong
46:05connecting, I thought this was it.
46:10Abby thought this was it.
46:12Chazzy made one more hard shot to put it away.
46:18She did go for the cover here after that lariat.
46:21That might have been a mistake, I don't know.
46:24But then we see a good counter into what would end up
46:27getting Abby Lath to the okay window.
46:36Here's your winner, Abby Lath.
46:38Abby Lath.
46:41Abby Lath.
46:43Battered and bruised and somewhat surprised, I think.
46:46I don't know if Chazzy's done.
46:50Wow, man, that is awesome.
46:53What a sign of sportsmanship,
46:55only here in the Mae Young Classic.
46:59Let's take a look at the bracket.
47:00We have our first four competitors in this tournament
47:04that we now have advanced here on night one.
47:08Congratulations to all the winners.
47:11And Art will be the most unlikely winner, Abby Lath.
47:15Ladies and gentlemen, man oh man,
47:17we've been waiting on this night for a long time.
47:20It has been a great night one at the Mae Young Classic.
47:26What a way to kick off this historic event.
47:29Eight women had the honor of being the first to compete
47:32in the first ever Mae Young Classic.
47:34Whoa.
47:35And the tone has been set.
47:37Hey.
47:38We saw some great action from all of these worthy competitors.
47:42She is moving on.
47:44And our first four have advanced to the next round.
47:47Princesa Suhey, Serena Deeb, Shayna Baszler, and Abby Lath.
47:55And we are only getting started.
