WWE NXT _July 01, 2025 - Thea Hail Vs Lainey Reid
Transcript
00:00The following podcast is scheduled for one fall.
00:08Introduce you first from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Thea Hale.
00:15Seems to be a little extra fired up tonight, Graves.
00:18Is that even possible?
00:19This woman has boundless energy.
00:22I suggest yoga, maybe some breath work.
00:25Thea Hale getting ready to take on Lainey Reed next.
00:30Welcome back to NXT.
00:40And her opponent from Gatsden, Alabama, Lainey Reed.
00:47As Booker fans himself to cool himself down, Graves,
00:50how impressed with Reed were you after she stood toe-to-toe
00:54with the NXT Women's Champion, J.C.J.?
00:57Well, it's a fantastic way to introduce yourself to the NXT universe as Lainey Reed did.
01:02The trouble is she claimed that she was going to be the one to beat J.C. Jane
01:05and was unable to do so.
01:07Tonight is of the utmost importance to show the rest of the world who Lainey Reed truly is.
01:11Lainey's looking to become the biggest, the largest here in NXT, man.
01:16Oh, yes!
01:18I'll ask you to elaborate on that, but the bell is about to ring,
01:21and we're about to get underway between these two.
01:24And on the topic of Jane, she faces Jordan Grace,
01:27WWE Evolution for the NXT Women's Championship in Atlanta,
01:30July 13th, right after the Great American Bash.
01:34For Thea Hale, Graves, is there a part of you that thinks Thea got the short end of the stick?
01:39Remember, she did tap out Jada Parker.
01:42Now, listen, I understand the frustration of Thea Hale,
01:44who right now is just unloading it.
01:47Appears as though Thea has had enough.
01:49Whoa.
01:49Maybe she's tired of being overlooked, and you're right.
01:51Jada Parker, let's call it what it is, out-strategized, out-smarted Thea.
01:55But right now, Thea on a mission into the cover, hope the land.
01:59Oh, Booker, if you go back to what Graves is talking about,
02:01is that sort of a wake-up call of sorts for someone like Thea Hale?
02:04I mean, I think it is because, I mean, right now, Thea Hale,
02:08I mean, she's our worst enemy.
02:10Right now, she had that max one against Jada Parker,
02:12but you cannot let this bitch, this game's way.
02:16Right there, the referee didn't do his job.
02:18He didn't break the hole.
02:19She let the hole go.
02:20That was a mistake, a big mistake.
02:22She's trying to get over the events of that Evolution Eliminator
02:24and trying to counter him, but instead got dropped base first by Reed.
02:28Reed followed by Jermit Suku.
02:30I see something in Lady Reed.
02:32She's got that impact.
02:33She's looking to be big, big star here, and then he's looking at that.
02:36Blue and the boom.
02:37I love it, man.
02:39Southern sensation certainly turning heads very quickly here in NXT.
02:44You see that?
02:45You see that?
02:45You see that, D?
02:46That boot right to the snout?
02:47I love it, man.
02:49No greatest snout on the side of your head.
02:52Got her in the ear, Book.
02:53She's just excited right now.
02:54I can tell.
02:55Stop reaching.
02:56Laney's got you feeling some kind of way, Book.
02:58I get it.
02:59I told you, he's fanning himself when we started the thing.
03:01Graves, how deep is the NXT women's division when you truly look at it all joking aside?
03:05I mean, I don't think I can state it adequately enough.
03:08I mean, every time one star goes to Raw or SmackDown,
03:11you've got, it seems like three more pop up.
03:13It's a great problem to have.
03:15It's a deep women's division, and it continues to evolve.
03:18Eleni Reed now taking her time.
03:20And last week, Booker, it was Reed who said, Thea gets played like a fiddle.
03:25I'm sure you agree.
03:26Not only that, Laney Reed, she stepped in right off the rip.
03:29Call out, baby.
03:31Call out to the champ.
03:32And my thing is this.
03:33Is this a UFC?
03:34Is this a UFC?
03:35They call us.
03:36I love it, man.
03:37That's what Laney Reed is all about.
03:39Well, when we take a look a little bit deeper at Laney Reed and some of the comments she's
03:42made with call outs, to Booker's point.
03:44Gravy, is Reed right with the things she has said about Thea Hale, specifically that
03:48she hasn't changed one bit since leaving Chase U?
03:51Oh, take a look at this.
03:53Powerful hand.
03:54Wow.
03:55Shoulder breaker.
03:56Executed excellently into a cover.
03:58Hook of the leg.
03:59And somehow, Thea able to kick out.
04:02Back to your question, Vic.
04:02I sort of have to agree with Laney Reed, but I do want to take another look at this.
04:07Double shoulder breaker.
04:09That could have ended it.
04:10Credit to Thea Hale for surviving.
04:12But I agree.
04:12I said something similar.
04:14Thea Hale wanted so bad to be, as she put it, a grown-ass woman to stand on her own two
04:18feet.
04:19And really, nothing has changed about her strategy or her approach to the rink.
04:23Thea Hale last week also admitted that adulting is hard.
04:29The locker room is mean as she's trying to get back into this match.
04:32And who said that?
04:33Thea Hale said that.
04:34A grown woman said that?
04:35Yes.
04:36I've just given up.
04:37It's a selfish business, man.
04:38You've got to be thinking about eight number one right now.
04:41Thea Hale is doing that in this matchup.
04:43But can she continue to do that?
04:44That's the mindset.
04:45Stay focused, Thea.
04:46Stay focused.
04:47And Thea charging right in and trying to turn this matchup around.
04:51Into the cover.
04:52Another hook to the leg.
04:53And a kick out by Laney Reed getting that inside shoulder up.
04:56Listen, in my opinion, I think Thea needs to take what she has, which is a seemingly endless
05:01amount of energy.
05:02She's frenetic.
05:03She's frantic.
05:04If she could channel it, if she could focus it, use it in bursts, in spurts, rather than
05:08just non-stop chaos, it might serve Thea well in the future.
05:12All right now, Laney Reed again.
05:14Looking for some high-impact offense.
05:16Countered by Thea Hale.
05:17Hale charging right back in.
05:18We've seen this in the past.
05:19Oh, wait a minute.
05:19He's trying to block in that Kimura.
05:22It's a smart strategy by Laney, though.
05:24Oh, taking the feet out into the cover.
05:26Big ref, ref!
05:28Nice job by our official.
05:30Thea Hale got caught the last time.
05:33That was smart.
05:33And right from behind Thea Hale this time.
05:35Rolling up center of the ring.
05:37And ooh.
05:39Good job by our officiating crew here tonight.
05:42Oh!
05:43That's it.
05:44That's it.
05:44Word, but hey, hey!
05:49What the?
05:50Here's the winner, Laney Reed!
05:53You were so eager to tattle last time.
05:55Why don't you get our official's attention?
05:57Got to admit, not only was Reed holding the ropes,
06:01it appeared Thea had her hand.
06:03This is a shocking upset.
06:05You know that.
