00:00Hello, I'm Sean Ford and I'm here with Premier Jeremy Rockliffe, who's saddled up for another election.
00:06Welcome, Jeremy, and thanks for coming along.
00:08Thanks, Sean. Yes, my eighth election. It goes quickly, doesn't it?
00:12Yes, and on July the 20th, in actual fact, it will be my 23-year anniversary representing the people of North West Coast, West Coast and King Island, the one elected of Braddon.
00:24So, a day after the election. Hopefully, if I'm re-elected for the people of Braddon, yeah, it'll be my eighth term. And loved every bit of it.
00:35Every bit of it. Yes. Even the last bit.
00:38Well, there's been some challenging times over the course of the last few weeks.
00:42The campaign slogan for the Liberals this time around seems to be, let's finish the job.
00:47Now, I'm wondering what job you're looking to finish. I mean, the government has pretty much ruined the state budget,
00:53stuffed up the spirits, failed to close Ashley by the promised time by your predecessor.
00:59We've got the AFL team that most Tasmanians want in doubt because of, well, I guess, issues around the stadium,
01:06which polling shows a majority of Tasmanians don't want. I mean, what exactly is the job you want to finish?
01:11Well, I wouldn't characterise any of what you've said there negatively, Sean.
01:16That sounds a lot like Dean Winter's talking points.
01:18But Dean Winter forced us to an election and we were elected to do a job.
01:25We've got a very clear plan.
01:27So this election is about recognising that we have a clear plan.
01:32We have a united team.
01:34And by every measure, our team and every single electorate far outweighs that of my opponents.
01:42Do you believe that the Liberals are any chance of a majority at this election?
01:48Yes, I do, because Tasmanians are aggrieved that they were forced to this election by Dean Winter and the Labor Party.
01:58Craig Garland has said that you offered to negotiate him to get his support during the recent doings in Parliament.
02:05What did you offer?
02:06Well, I offered to keep talking.
02:10I've met with Craig many, many times and I know he's concerned about his fishing and I know he's concerned about salmon and I know he's concerned about other matters when it comes to the things that he holds dearly.
02:23All I really asked for was an opportunity to sit down and work through the issues that he's concerned about.
02:30And I'm not going to go into any intimate discussions with Craig and I have them with all independence, of course, as I've done.
02:41What I wanted to do was to sit down and listen to his issues.
02:46Okay, but you won't say what specifically you offered to Mr Garland if you did?
02:51I wanted to listen to Craig and talk with Craig around a number of issues he's concerned about and that's how I approached the last Parliament.
