00:00If you're a climate enthusiast, you need to hear what happened to MethaneSat, and why its story isn't over.
00:07MethaneSat, backed by Jeff Bezos' Earth Fund and launched in 2024, was built to reveal the world's worst methane polluters.
00:15In just over a year, it uncovered super emitters, with leaks in Texas up to five times higher than official estimates,
00:22and the South Caspian region blowing past records.
00:25Why does that matter?
00:26Methane is 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide at trapping heat over 20 years.
00:32Then, around June 20th, everything went dark.
00:35The $88 million satellite lost power over Norway, and is now unrecoverable.
00:41Still, the Environmental Defense Fund calls this a setback, not a failure.
00:46MethaneSat proved that high-res tracking from space is possible, and set a new standard for climate accountability.
00:53The mission continues. Buy air for now.
00:56And the legacy? A clearer path to a cooler planet.
01:00Stay tuned. Space isn't done teaching us yet.
