00:00My name's Jean Hill. I'm 67 years of age and it started with me sunbathing in the garden.
00:10I woke up the next day not realising I couldn't open me one eye. As you can see, it's still there.
00:20It's turned out that with the ray of the sun, having wore sunglasses, I fell asleep.
00:28Maybe for about 15 minutes, I woke up with my glasses on the floor.
00:34And then the next morning, waking up, I couldn't open my eye.
00:40I couldn't, didn't know what was going on. So I just throwed hot water on.
00:46I tried to open my eye, I couldn't. So I had to go and report it to the doctors,
00:53which then I had to wait and was sent to the hospital where I seen the consultant.
01:01And she gave me some antiviral tablets to take for two weeks.
01:06It was confirmed that I had caught with the shingles, that I was in so much pain and it would take time to heal.
01:16And I was to return back to see another specialist in two weeks, which would be the 23rd of May.
01:24I had my eyes tested. I had drops put in my eye. I could just sort of open them.
01:31But I still had the shingles from the effect of the rays of the sun.
01:36I want to warn people that you need to be protected by sun creams, sunglasses, hats.
01:47You need to be protected because people doesn't realise with the heat of the sun and the rays,
01:55maybe a low immune system. It can bring out the shingles in you.
02:01And by golly, you don't want to go through this, especially on your face.
02:07Even it's worse on your body because it has been known you can have skin cancer.
02:12I've heard when people go abroad, but also to have it on your face and not be able to go out for weeks,
02:23to have your curtains drawn, to have pain, to have soreness.
02:29Hopefully now it is five weeks later. We're in June the 26th.
02:37So today I am just still recovering. As you can see, it is still in the brow.
02:45It is still in the corner of my eye. So please be aware that this can happen to anybody.
