00:00She had said that she's glad that she can't see because she doesn't have to see the ugly things in the world.
00:06And that just became a through line for the entire of the film.
00:22This film was written and developed at the same time as Talk to Me.
00:26And we were going through, you know, a loss at the time.
00:31And because they were built up at the same time, they share the same sort of DNA.
00:35And they feel like brother-sister films to me.
00:38So I think that's probably one of the main reasons why.
00:40Yeah, and I think we hadn't fully got it out of our system, the grief.
00:44So a second movie and diving more into the more personal lens.
00:56I come up with it with my co-writer, Bill Hinsman.
01:01And we just go down the rabbit hole and start researching the occult and talking to strange people that practice in the occult and that write spell books.
01:09And you just get inspired by hearing these people talk about it.
01:12And you always grab little bits and pieces from parts that freak you out.
01:16And you build your own lore and your own mythology and your own cult.
01:20And it's a really, you know, a really special part of the process.
01:28There is a small thing that connects them.
01:30But it's, yeah, some people will pick it up.
01:32A lot of people won't.
01:33It's like the whole film is playing with perception and different points of views.
01:45And different eyes see different things.
01:48And that was like a thematic thing that tied all the way through the film.
01:52And while researching the film, one of the first inspirations was talking to a friend's non-sided sister.
01:59And, like, she had said that she's glad that she can't see because she doesn't have to see the ugly things in the world.
02:07And that just became a through line for the entire of the film.
02:11And it's so much to do with truth and lies and perception.
02:16So the idea of Andy, he is Sora's eyes.
02:20She needs to trust him completely.
02:21And Laura's got a front that she's putting on.
02:25But there's something else underneath that she can't see.
02:28That, that, there's so much about that.
02:31That's, yeah, it's interconnected thematically.
02:37We've got one take and an ambulance on standby.
02:40It was all, there was a rubber knife, a fake knife.
02:45And then there was a, a fake head as well with a real knife.
02:49So it was like intercutting between the two of them.
02:51And then like a lot of subtle, clever VFX to blend the two plates together.
02:59It's that thing, it's if, if Andy would tell, let Piper see the good and the bad in the world,
03:06she'll be able to navigate life.
03:07But he's painting it a certain way for her.
03:10And if he did tell her the truth of these things, that, this wouldn't happen.
03:14And so his arc is telling her, but it's Laura on the other side of the phone.
03:17Like his arc was wrapped up in the car for me.
03:21And it feels like the happy ending is what you expect and what you're used to.
03:25And what feels, that feels satisfying.
03:28But looking at it through a horror lens and like playing each beat as each character,
03:32like when I put myself in Laura's shoes and I'm like,
03:35these two people are about to get away.
03:37Everything that I've worked towards is about to be spoiled.
03:41I like, we found the car.
03:43And like, Laura would run him down and he probably wouldn't survive.
03:47And it is a tragedy.
03:49And the film was sort of built that, that Piper is, she's the hidden protagonist.
03:54She's the hidden hero towards the end of the film.
03:56And thematically it was her story.
03:58And it feels like it was her story sort of all along.
04:00She's the hidden hero.
04:01Aaron Moore wants her.
04:07She's the hidden hero to the end of the film.
04:07Who said this child?
04:08Who said this child?
04:10And out, they couldn't escape from all around the world.
04:11ono.
04:12And I would like her to A man.
04:12She's the hidden hero.
04:13And she would be an believer in the world.
04:15...
04:17Grunt was his biggest challenge.
04:18And so, in addition to the lost.
04:22Love is true in this character.
04:23It doesn't look like this child in the name of the film.
