00:00Welcome back to 442, where today we'll be talking Liverpool's latest contract rejection,
00:04Pogba's latest return to football, Chelsea signing a 13-year-old, plus much more.
00:10I'm Matt Vrolick, and here's what's on our feed.
00:15Right then, let's kick things off with a very good summer for Liverpool that may have turned a little bit sour,
00:21and it's Ibrahima Konate.
00:22I've seen a load of reports saying that he has rejected Liverpool's latest contract offer,
00:27and not only that, but he's disappointed.
00:30That's not when you do something bad and your parents are like,
00:32I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed.
00:34That would have really hurt Liverpool, and apparently, it's hurt a lot of Liverpool fans as well,
00:38because I'm seeing them absolutely blowing up in the Twitter comment section,
00:41saying they're done with him.
00:43Nobody gets angry at their own players like Liverpool fans do,
00:45once they decide, or once they find out, that this player could potentially leave.
00:49Anyway, it's all to do with wages, as is so often the case these days.
00:53And Konate's on 70k per week, he wants around 200k per week, which is a massive jump,
01:01and apparently Liverpool want to offer something like 130,000, 120,000, 130,000 per week.
01:06To be honest, I totally get it.
01:09Like, yes, this is in their own little bubble, and 70,000 per week is more than enough to live off.
01:13It's more than most of us learn in a year or two.
01:15But the likes of Joe Gomez, Simikas, and Chiesa are all earning way more than Konate.
01:21And Konate is, in a best Liverpool XI this season, maybe even last season as well,
01:26the best centre-back pairing with Van Dijk that Liverpool have.
01:30He's their second-best defender.
01:32They're relying on him.
01:33So the fact that he's only on 70,000 is actually a bit harsh.
01:36And then, when you throw on the fact that they have spent so much money already this summer,
01:41the hundreds of millions on the likes of Verts, Kerkersh is coming in, Frimpong as well,
01:47that's not even discussing the amount of money that's then put forward on wages as well.
01:52Totally normal, by the way, not calling Liverpool out for this.
01:55They're signing top-quality players, and you have to pay big money.
01:57If they were signing Konate now, they'd offer him a load of money.
02:01They'd put him on a very high wage because he's their starting centre-back in a title-winning team.
02:06So why wouldn't they go and do it now?
02:09On top of this, he's 26 years old.
02:11He's coming into his prime.
02:12I think he's at the perfect age for a massive, massive contract.
02:15And the issue that Liverpool have got is if they don't go ahead and sign him to a new long-term deal,
02:20remember it runs out in 12 months,
02:22PSG, Real Madrid, even someone else in the Premier League, which seems kind of unthinkable,
02:27can all offer ridiculous wages.
02:29Konate will literally have to pick up the phone to Trent Alexander-Arnold and be like,
02:32hey, mate, how much more are you getting at Real Madrid than you were at Liverpool?
02:35And I'm sure he'll have his answer very, very quickly.
02:38Obviously, Liverpool don't want that to happen.
02:42That will sort of be massive for them.
02:45To lose another player on a free next summer to Real Madrid, like the second year in a row,
02:52it's not a good look.
02:54It's not a very good look.
02:55And I wonder at what point do potentially Liverpool fans go, you know what, I'm sick of this.
03:00The club's got to do something about it.
03:02Because if he's not going to sign, you've got to sell him.
03:04You have got to sell him this transfer window.
03:06And the good thing is about Konate, like I said, I think he's unbelievable.
03:09One of the top five centre-backs in the Premier League, definitely.
03:11Top ten in Europe.
03:13So even though there's one year left, paying £30-40 million for him is a pretty good deal.
03:17And what a time to be a Liverpool fan.
03:19Not only have you proved it on the pitch by winning the title,
03:22but then to go and win the transfer window.
03:24It seems like every time we do a video, there's just more Liverpool news.
03:27No other team is doing anything.
03:28In the Premier League, certainly.
03:30Liverpool are just streets away of everyone else in this transfer window.
03:34Moving on to the next one.
03:35We're back on Instagram, checking out some of the latest content that flies around on our feed.
03:40Hence the name of the show, obviously.
03:43Paul Pogba.
03:44He's back.
03:45Pog back.
03:46Monaco are the latest team to take a punt on the former Manchester United and Juventus man.
03:51And I kind of like it.
03:53When I say I kind of like it, I'm here for it.
03:56I am here for Paul Pogba to return, to get back to his very best.
04:00And why not in his home country?
04:02He's never played in Ligue 1.
04:03And when you put him in a French setting, like the French national team, he's unbelievable.
04:08It was day and night between club-level United Pogba and French national team Pogba
04:12that we were seeing in the World Cup 2018.
04:15He's unbelievable.
04:16We know that.
04:17Monaco just seems like a good place for him to go.
04:19You know, maybe even dismantle PSG at the top of Ligue 1.
04:21Okay, that was ridiculous.
04:23That was me being stupid.
04:24I know.
04:25PSG is streets ahead.
04:26But regardless, Pogba back.
04:28Ansu Fati joining the club.
04:30They've got Akriush in that attacking final third as well.
04:33They are the team to watch in the Champions League football next season.
04:37They are the team to watch in the Champions League next season.
04:39Honestly, all three of them, under Adi Huta as well, a very good manager.
04:44I think they're going to be a very, very interesting team to watch.
04:47Watch this space.
04:48And also, Paul Pogba on a free transfer.
04:51He loves a free, doesn't he?
04:53My God.
04:54From the sensible in Paul Pogba to the downright ridiculous, this is the definition of games
04:59gone.
04:59When Chelsea are paying 750k cheap in today's money, unless it's for a 13-year-old, a 13-year-old
05:07South African wonder kid, Camden Shaper.
05:10I think it's pronounced.
05:11Sharper?
05:11Shaper?
05:12Granted, he scored 45 goals and got 65 assists for Blackburn Rovers youth teams this season.
05:17I just can't think of a world in where paying 750k for a kid is doing anything beneficial
05:26to them.
05:27Like, surely, and this isn't Chelsea's fault, by the way.
05:29I get this is just the way, like, football economy works these days.
05:32Surely there's something that benefits the player's development where he can move on to
05:36a higher level and then some sort of fee is owed to Blackburn in the future, like, upon,
05:42I don't know, appearances or upon turning 16 and still being in the Chelsea Academy.
05:48Like, to attach that price tag to a 13-year-old these days is just not a very good thing.
05:55But I also think that Chelsea obviously have other parameters which they're looking at for
05:58a 13-year-old, like, to go ahead and make this decision.
06:03Because just saying that he's really good at 13, he's playing against other 13-year-olds.
06:08While some of them are quite good, he's playing against an age group where there are very,
06:14very few who are very good.
06:15So when you're extra talented like this child, obviously is, he's going to stick out a lot
06:19more than if he was good at 18 where the competition is even tougher.
06:23So yeah, maybe just, like, I don't know, move the transfer fee to an older age.
06:27It just seems crazy.
06:28They actually beat Manchester City, who have previous in doing this.
06:31I believe they paid £1 million for a 14-year-old.
06:35At what point is there some sort of, like, labour laws that are going to come into effect,
06:38like child labour, not politics stuff, that really stops people from paying so much money
06:45for 13-year-old kids?
06:46So Thibaut Courtois, at half-time in their match recently, called out Raul Asensio for getting
06:52sent off in the seventh minute saying, you know, he's inexperienced, he got caught,
06:57he got a red card.
06:57Totally understandable, by the way.
06:59But isn't this the sort of conversation that should be going on in the dressing room?
07:03Like, the most ridiculous thing about this, isn't Thibaut Courtois, isn't what Asensio
07:08did, isn't him calling him out?
07:10The headline is the fact that there's an interview at half-time in the first place.
07:14But yeah, I am not here for half-time interviews.
07:17I don't need to hear about it.
07:19They've probably got somewhere better to be.
07:20And also, this has to be the most short-lived content of all time.
07:24Because shortly after that 15-minute break, whatever happens in the second half pretty
07:28much renders the half-time speech redundant.
07:31Although here I am talking about it right now.
07:34Well played, Cub.
07:35Well played.
07:36You got me on that one.
07:37Anyway, the other Real Madrid ridiculous interview was Jude Belliam calling out the pitches.
07:43The reason I find it ridiculous is, it's rather funny, is that players always seem to call
07:49something out or take the moral high ground after a victory.
07:52Because you can't do it after a loss.
07:55If Real Madrid lose or Belliam complains about the pitches, everyone's like, what an excuse.
08:00You're complaining because you lost.
08:02You're rubbish.
08:02Get on with it.
08:03Same for both teams.
08:04Blah, blah, blah.
08:04And it basically makes the whole complaint redundant.
08:06But when you've done it, when you've won, it's like, oh, wow.
08:09They won and they're still complaining.
08:11This must be a serious complaint.
08:12Like, FIFA are saying, this is the best club tournament in the world.
08:16They're hosting the World Cup there next year.
08:18If you want the best possible matches, the most entertaining football, you provide the
08:23best facilities.
08:24That includes the football pitches.
08:27Dortmund made their substitutes watch the first half from the dressing room.
08:3232 degree heat, which is very hot when you're, like, walking around and, like me, you know,
08:36getting really sweaty walking around on the day to day.
08:39Never mind playing a football match, never mind running around sprinting for 90 minutes
08:43in 32 degree heat.
08:45So, yeah, Dortmund players, the substitutes, watched the first half from the dressing room
08:50and got absolutely ripped to shit in the comments.
08:53People calling them soft knees, people saying the South Americans can deal with it and it's
08:57Europeans just being weak.
08:59One person actually did make a very good point and asked what happens when the substitutes
09:03are going to be brought on.
09:04Doesn't normally happen in the first half, granted.
09:06But if they had an injury or something, they'd just call back and a sub just runs out like
09:09some sort of WWE intro.
09:12Like, they'd just sprint down the tunnel, run straight out onto the pitch.
09:15It'd be amazing.
09:16But, yeah, it is a very, very valid point.
09:18Like, it's ridiculously hot.
09:20How is this going to, you know, affect the World Cup next summer?
09:24And what is really going to be done about it?
09:26Because you can't just have a few people who are used to it and a few who aren't.
09:29Last time at the Qatar World Cup saying, we're going to interrupt the middle of the season
09:35because it's too hot to play in Qatar in the summer.
09:37Fair enough.
09:39They actually did it.
09:40Yes, it was still very hot.
09:41They played a lot of games at night.
09:42It was pretty cool for most fans and most players.
09:45They played in, you know, when was it?
09:47November, December.
09:48So, something to think about definitely for the organisers of the World Cup.
09:52Sort out the pitch and make sure the players aren't passing out on the field when it's too damn hot.
09:56But we'll wrap up, though.
09:58I'm not having a go at Italian football, but this is just so Italian football.
10:03With the fact that their playoff game in Serie B got suspended.
10:08This is the relegation playoff between Sampdoria and Salerno Tala to see which one would get relegated.
10:14And there's this whole huge backstory to it.
10:16It's not even just that this game got called off.
10:18So, Sampdoria were going to get relegated.
10:21Brescia got an eight-point deduction towards the end of the season,
10:23which then meant that they got relegated.
10:25And Sampdoria finished 17th and they have a playoff with 16th, which is Salerno Tana,
10:30only if they are within four points of each other.
10:34Then it's deemed unfair if one of them streaks ahead of the other.
10:37So, 17th goes down as well as the fourth relegation spot.
10:40However, there were a few points within each other.
10:43Sampdoria played Salerno Tana, who were facing back-to-back relegation.
10:47Sampdoria won 2-0 on the first leg and ahead of the second leg.
10:49There was mass food poisoning throughout the Salerno Tana squad.
10:54The game was postponed for 48 hours.
10:56They then played it.
10:57Sampdoria then went 2-0 up again.
10:59So, it's 4-0 on aggregate.
11:01Well, the game was abandoned, suspended, cooled off.
11:04It looks like Sampdoria are going to get a 3-0 win.
11:06So, it's actually 5-0 on aggregate.
11:08Both teams just falling down this low is quite sad,
11:12especially for Sampdoria, who were a massive team over the last 30 years.
11:15You know, they've even won Serie A in the early 90s.
11:17But it was just blowing up the internet on the weekend.
11:19And it was all over our feed, from Instagram to Twitter to Facebook,
11:23as was that really nice story, very quickly before we go,
11:26about Santi Cazorla helping Real Oviedo,
11:28his hometown club at the age of 41,
11:31back to La Liga with a promotion.
11:33That's some good news, but it's like nice good news.
11:35It's not as wacky as the Italian football stuff.
11:38Anyway, that's all from me for this week.
11:40That's all from me for what's on our feed.
11:42Make sure you stick around for the next 442 video
11:44and all the upcoming content that we've got over the summer.
11:47But until next time, I'll see you in the next video.
