00:00C'est parti !
00:02Plus...
00:04J-Lo comes out for the woman
00:06behind her movies made in Manhattan,
00:08Hustlers and Shotgun Wedding.
00:10I'm very proud of you.
00:12I'm very proud of her.
00:14Extra brought to you by Jergens.
00:18If J-Lo is always the bride,
00:20Elaine Goldsmith Thomas
00:22is always the bridesmaid.
00:24She's the power producer behind so many
00:26of Jennifer's movies, from made in Manhattan
00:28to the boy next door and Shotgun Wedding.
00:30Well, last night Jennifer traded places
00:32and put on her girl next door.
00:34This is the dress-down bookstore J-Lo.
00:38She eased her way over to put the spotlight
00:40on Elaine. Here's Mona.
00:42Jennifer Lopez looking casually glam.
00:44You have helped guide the careers
00:48of some pretty incredible people.
00:50Jennifer Lopez.
00:52Out to support her right-hand woman,
00:54Elaine Goldsmith Thomas.
00:56I do have a question.
00:58The story about the manager
01:00who represented Peter Lawford,
01:02the Marilyn Monroe story,
01:04is that a true story?
01:06It is a true story.
01:08Elaine's produced her films for over 20 years,
01:10like Made in Manhattan and Hustlers.
01:12It's like robbing the bank,
01:14except you get the keys.
01:16Are you in?
01:17Jennifer leads by example
01:18and then encourages you to fly alongside her,
01:20and I am forever in her debt for that.
01:24It was with J-Lo's insistence
01:26that Elaine took her Hollywood history
01:28and turned it into a book,
01:29climbing in heels.
01:30How did this come about?
01:32I was a secretary at William Morris in the 1980s
01:36and, you know, the hair was big
01:38and the shoulder pads were big
01:40and the phones were big
01:42and the egos were big.
01:43Elaine told our Terry Seymour
01:44that the book is a semi-autobiographical story
01:46about her rise to senior vice president,
01:48guiding the careers of Julia Roberts,
01:50Madonna, and Nicolas Cage.
01:52One of the girls is loosely based on you.
01:54It's loosely based on me,
01:56but I turned left on it.
01:58It's based on some things I saw,
02:00some things I heard,
02:02and some things I imagined.
02:04That's to say, there is sex, drugs,
02:06and powerful men behaving badly.
02:08Do you think anybody's gonna be sitting down
02:10with their coffee and splurding their coffee out
02:12when they read a certain story?
02:15I mean, there may be a few people
02:17where it's gonna look a little recognizable,
02:19but I didn't use their names.
02:21And I changed facts.
02:23But there are some things in the book
02:24that are absolutely accurate,
02:26like the Marilyn story.
02:28Back when Elaine was a secretary,
02:30an older man came into her office
02:32and dropped a Marilyn Monroe bombshell.
02:34Out of nowhere, he said, you know,
02:36they killed Marilyn.
02:37And he said, yeah, I mean,
02:39I didn't want them to.
02:40You know, she was a good kid,
02:42but she was going off the rails.
02:44You know, she was threatening to call Jackie.
02:46I thought he was nuts.
02:47That man was Milton Evans,
02:49an old school Hollywood power player
02:51and a keeper of secrets.
02:52Just not this time as Elaine's boss confirmed.
02:55Wait a second.
02:56He told me that they killed Marilyn.
02:57Yeah.
02:58She said he would know.
03:00The book is full of wild stories,
03:02and it's already being adapted into a series
03:04for Peacock by Sex and the City creator Darren Starr.
03:07Elaine wants her moderator,
03:08Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale,
03:10in for a role.
03:11I literally see myself in all of the women in the book
03:14because they all have big dreams and big ambitions.
03:17I see her in two of the characters,
03:19and so does Darren.
03:21The series should be out next year,
03:23and the book is in stores now.
03:25Martin yores is a W.
03:26The next time.
