Transcript
00:00Hey, I went by your house the other day. Is your baby pregnant?
00:03I don't know. Lois is in charge of the kids.
00:05Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most infuriating and
00:10annoying Family Guy moments that made even diehard fans want to change the channel.
00:14Spoilers will be mentioned, so this is your official warning.
00:18Chris, come on. We're going home. He can't make you do this.
00:21But mom, I want to do this.
00:24What?
00:26Number 30. Refrigerator Meg.
00:28Considering how long the show's been on air, you'd think it'd have its thumb firmly on the
00:33pulse of pop culture. Yet there are plenty of moments where it's incredibly out of touch.
00:37Girl internetted is the prime example. It's centered around Meg becoming an unexpectedly
00:42popular web star, subsequently ruining her own life to maintain her audience.
00:46Oh, and what's this? Strawberry yogurt? Is your girl Meg some kind of health nut?
00:51Nope. Turn it around. 35 grams of sugar!
00:54Yeah, through the roof!
00:59It had the potential to be an interesting satirical take, but ended up coming across like the writers
01:04hadn't been online in a decade. From referencing outdated YouTubers to surface-level observations
01:09on sponsors and the dangers of viral fame, it only appealed to those already scared of the
01:14internet. It's clear to see why even diehard fans consider this weak, even for a Meg episode.
01:18I'm still Refrigerator Meg! But from here on, my fridge will be full of fruits, vegetables,
01:25and lean meats! Yo, yo, yo!
01:31Number 29. Brian Acts on His Instincts.
01:34With all of his anthropomorphic qualities, it can be easy to overlook that the Griffin family pet
01:38is a dog. We'll sometimes get glimpses of Brian's canine qualities, often in a comedic way.
01:44Hey, get out of here! This is my house!
01:46So when he suddenly and viciously mauled a baby squirrel Chris and Stewie had been tirelessly
01:51raising, fans were genuinely shaken. It was a brutally violent moment that felt like it was
01:56purely done for shock value, especially when he never apologized for the horrific act.
02:01You knew there was a dog in the house! He's practically your best friend! Or maybe even more
02:06than that! You shut your damn mouth! It derailed the rest of the episode, and the failed attempt
02:12at tugging the viewer's heartstrings at the very end was the rotten cherry on top. If this is the
02:17alternative, we'll take the usual egotistical Brian any day. Number 28. Brian's Inflated Ego.
02:23We may have spoken too soon. When he's not acting like a dog, Brian has a tendency to act like a jerk.
02:30This is especially clear after his rise to fame in Brian writes a bestseller. After his self-help book
02:35became a hit, he quickly devolved into an arrogant diva. How do you think I feel walking out of the
02:40back room of a restaurant and seeing Renee Zellweger eating in the front room of that restaurant?
02:46I am mortified! Absolutely mortified! You should know better than this! The joke lost its luster early on,
02:52especially once he started using his fame to be a creep towards his fans and even being needlessly
02:56cruel to his best friend. The most insulting moment by far was his non-apology, a completely
03:02unsatisfying end to an annoying arc. It was a glaring example of his deterioration from the
03:07earliest season, making several viewers realize he had taken a permanent turn for the worse.
03:12I was just trying to write something that would sell. I think it's crap too.
03:16Wow. If I had even one shred of respect for you before this, it's gone now.
03:24Number 27. Meg's Santa Obsession. There are some moments throughout Family Guy that make you wonder
03:29what was going through the writers' minds at the time. Meg having an incredibly personal moment with
03:33the mall Santa, all while holding Stewie on her lap, takes the cake.
03:37What just happened?
03:41I'll have what she's having.
03:43Besides being incredibly long and drawn out, it also completely traumatized her brother.
03:48What's worse is that it didn't end there. She dragged him all over, harassing several costumed
03:53men in an attempt to recreate that first high, with her own father being one of them.
03:57Dad, I'm gonna ask you one question, and how you answer it will determine the rest of my life.
04:03Were you the Santa at this mall yesterday?
04:07No.
04:07Oh, thank God.
04:08It was gross and uncomfortable purely for the sake of it, with no comedic payoff to balance it out.
04:13If the goal was to pull fans out of their Christmas cheer, then they succeeded tenfold.
04:18Number 26. Chip. Love him or hate him, many will agree that Peter Griffin is annoying.
04:23Whether it's his actions or his mannerisms, to say that he can be grating is an understatement.
04:28So, the fact that the writers thought a tiny version of him with a pitched-up voice would
04:32be a good idea is baffling.
04:33Kids, remember how when you were little, you always wanted a neck, uncle?
04:37No.
04:37Well, now you got one!
04:39Ah! What is that, kid?
04:41His vestigial twin, Chip, was entertaining at first, but things quickly went off the rails
04:46when it became apparent that he'd be sticking around for the rest of the episode.
04:49His constant excitement for everything led to a series of one-note jokes.
04:53All punctuated by the aggravating cadence of his voice.
04:56But where are those good old-fashioned values?
05:00On which we used to rely?
05:02What the- what the hell is going on here?
05:05It's clear to see why both Peter and the fans hated him.
05:08Number 25. Racist and stereotypical jokes about India.
05:12Family Guy isn't exactly known for being sensitive towards any group,
05:16with practically everyone becoming a target for their offensive humor.
05:19Sometimes, though, it comes across as genuinely mean-spirited.
05:22Having an entire Road 2 episode dedicated to India had plenty of potential.
05:27However, they just couldn't help themselves from filling time with a litany of racist jokes.
05:32Everything about the country was eviscerated, from the crowds to their religious beliefs.
05:36What I wouldn't give right now for a big, juicy steak.
05:40How dare you?
05:41To us, cows are sacred!
05:42That's right!
05:43You are disrespecting our entire culture!
05:46And why did Wes Anderson come here to make his worst movie?
05:49It was a non-stop onslaught of tired stereotypes.
05:52What's worse is they were interwoven with the main plot, making them inescapable.
05:56Closing everything out with a by-the-numbers, unimaginative, Bollywood-inspired song was the final blow.
06:01It was a waste of what had been the fans' favorite installments in the series.
06:06You know what?
06:07It's about the journey, not the destination.
06:09No, it's not.
06:10This sucked and you failed.
06:11Number 24.
06:12Karen Griffin
06:13By this point, it's common knowledge that the show's protagonist isn't the best father or husband.
06:18With how much he's tormented them over the years,
06:21it makes sense that fans would want to see him get a taste of his own medicine from time to time.
06:24However, seeing his sister Karen make his life a living nightmare was too far, even for him.
06:30Peter, come say hello to your sister.
06:33Fine.
06:33She relentlessly berated and embarrassed him in front of his family and friends.
06:37The worst moment came when she performed one of her wrestling moves on him,
06:41nearly strangling him in the process.
06:43It was so intense that he reverted back to a childlike state,
06:46making the other characters and the audience wish they were watching anything else.
06:50And then so I'm like,
06:51Peter, how was I supposed to know you didn't want your teammates to know you wore a bra?
06:57It was a custom-designed sports halter top.
07:00More stories.
07:01More stories.
07:02Number 23.
07:03Treatment of Ida Quagmire
07:04The line between playful humor and hurtful insults is often razor thin.
07:09While Family Guy flirts with offensive comedy without taking it too far,
07:13he crossed that boundary with the treatment of Ida Quagmire.
07:16All I've talked about for years with these people is what a war hero you were.
07:19And I was.
07:21I'm changing my future, not my past.
07:23Oh yeah?
07:23What about my future?
07:24She became the butt of every joke in Quagmire's dad,
07:27many of which seemed intentionally cruel.
07:30While being subjected to invasive questions and Lois having her food thrown out was bad enough,
07:34the most sickening moment happened behind her back.
07:36She and Brian had spent the night together,
07:38and he was excited until he learned who she was.
07:41His drawn-out disgust was bad enough,
07:44and it coming after he sang her praises rubbed salt in the wound.
07:47How does this happen?
07:49When they move to a new place,
07:51they're supposed to notify the neighborhood!
07:52That's how it works!
07:53It was so mean-spirited that it caused fans and activist groups to change the channel.
07:58Number 22.
07:59Their contribution to the abortion debate.
08:02As hard as they've tried,
08:03this series just doesn't handle serious topics very well.
08:06Even causes they support end up being portrayed horribly.
08:09Partial terms of endearment is a perfect example.
08:12After Lois becomes a surrogate for her friends,
08:14they die in a tragic accident, leaving her to grapple with the decision to continue the
08:18pregnancy or not.
08:19Well, there's no harm in visiting the family planning center just to see what your options are.
08:23Ugh, it's such a big decision.
08:26Of course it's a big decision.
08:27Life is full of big decisions.
08:28Rather than take it seriously,
08:30the show took the opportunity to make several crude,
08:32violent jokes about the medical procedure.
08:34Their attempt at nuance only muddy things even further,
08:37putting off fans on both sides of the debate.
08:40Okay, this argument isn't working.
08:41Peter, what if carrying the baby to term would endanger the mother's life?
08:44I don't know what seven of those words were.
08:46It was so offensive that both cable and streaming networks gave it the chop,
08:50and it's clear to see why.
08:52Number 21.
08:53Brian's marriage.
08:54If there's one thing that's been made clear,
08:56it's that the family dog is not the luckiest when it comes to love.
08:59For a moment, that ended when he met Jess, a woman dying from cancer.
09:03He even asked her to marry him, though it was for selfish reasons.
09:07On their wedding day, her doctor revealed she was going to live.
09:11Brian, we really will be together forever.
09:17Forever and ever and ever.
09:19Jess's character was immediately destroyed,
09:22with her becoming unbearably annoying and physically unappealing to Brian.
09:26What's worse is that the arc lasted for two episodes.
09:29Both were filled to the brim with stereotypical boomer humor,
09:32from their weight gain to their general disdain for one another.
09:35Brian, I can explain.
09:37Explain what?
09:38How you brought me here to have me killed?
09:39Well, you're no better.
09:40You could have saved my life in the restaurant, but you let me choke to death.
09:44Okay, fine.
09:45I probably could have done more to save your life.
09:47It was a slog to get through,
09:49and it was a rough start to their 17th season.
09:52Number 20.
09:53The Long Conway Twitty Cutaway.
09:55Normally, the Conway Twitty Cutaway gags are funny distractions from awkward moments,
09:59while also paying tribute to the late country singer.
10:02Yikes!
10:03Looks like I need a distraction.
10:04However, when Peter tries to distract Lois in The Juice Is Loose,
10:08they show a full three-minute segment of Mr. Twitty performing I See The Want To In Your Eyes.
10:13Not only does the diversion not work,
10:15it also takes a sizable chunk out of the episode and feels more like cheap filler.
10:20Unfortunately, no matter how iconic the running gag is,
10:24this is a prime example of too much of a good thing.
10:27We're not even sure Mr. Twitty himself would have approved.
10:29Conway Twitty says cut it out.
10:31Just write a joke.
10:32Number 19.
10:33Brian Switches Political Ideologies.
10:36For a long time in the show's history,
10:38Brian acted as the conscience of the Griffin family.
10:41He was a cynical liberalist,
10:43leaning left with his antics,
10:44including weed legalization and jabs at George W. Bush.
10:48Oh my god, they just elected him out of pity
10:50because they think he's mentally challenged.
10:52Kind of like we did with George W. Bush.
10:54Huh?
10:55Right?
10:57I guess.
10:59I guess, Brian.
10:59In Excellence in Broadcasting,
11:01Brian does a complete 180
11:03and aligns himself with Rush Limbaugh,
11:06a premier American conservative.
11:08Oh my god.
11:10Rush Limbaugh was right all along.
11:12Conservative republicanism is the answer.
11:15Good.
11:16Good for Brian.
11:17Through this moment,
11:18Brian's ideology became less about what he believed in
11:21and more about how he could pretentiously laud his intelligence over everyone else.
11:25What did you think of the movie Titanic?
11:27Horrible.
11:27One of the worst movies ever made.
11:28How about Slumdog Millionaire?
11:30Overrated.
11:31Just a terrible movie.
11:32Cocktail.
11:33Actually, not a bad film.
11:35You know, as classically structured cinema,
11:36Cocktail was one of the best films of its era.
11:39Of course, this made you lose any kind of respect for the character.
11:42But it's not the last controversial moment featuring the anthropomorphic canine.
11:46Number 18.
11:47Diaper Eating.
11:49Family Guy has a consistently outlandish and hilarious tone throughout.
11:53But it isn't afraid to get serious when it needs to.
11:57The season 8 episode Brian and Stewie is such an episode.
12:00Featuring the iconic duo getting stuck in a bank vault and going to some dark places.
12:05Dogs are supposed to be able to instinctively live with purpose.
12:08Not even to have to think about it.
12:09Just born like that.
12:10But I wasn't.
12:13You know, I've tried to find meaning in my life and I just, I just can't.
12:17A lot of fans love this episode for showing development in the pair's relationship.
12:21So it's a shame the writers ruined it with this disgusting and unnecessary moment.
12:26If the poo were to be removed...
12:30What is it?
12:31What are you driving at?
12:33Eat it.
12:34What?
12:34Eat my poo, Brian.
12:36It goes on for a long time and makes viewers genuinely uncomfortable.
12:41Maybe that was what they were going for.
12:42But if you hate gross out humor,
12:44this quite possibly made you switch channels and miss out on what else the episode had to offer.
12:50Oh my god.
12:51What?
12:52It's all on tape.
12:54What's all on tape?
12:55Oh!
12:57Oh my god!
12:59Oh, that is gonna be on YouTube!
13:02Number 17.
13:03Time-filling gags and morbid premise.
13:05For many fans, the golden age of Family Guy had long passed by the time season 17 rolled around.
13:11Just like how the Conway Twitty gag felt like the show was just padding for time,
13:15Con Eris suffered the same problem throughout.
13:18The premise of Brian, Stewie, and Quagmire trying to inherit elderly women's fortunes is morbid enough.
13:24But what might have made you lose interest was something much more straightforward.
13:28The episode felt dragged out.
13:30Like, there wasn't much there.
13:31Especially during the long name joke.
13:33Who is she?
13:35That's Margaret Woolworth, Carrington, Von Schumacher, Chanel, Aster, Livingston,
13:38Comte de Saint, Exuberi, Mountbatten, Windsor, Armani, Roosevelt, Von Trapp,
13:42Wickenham, Hurst, Montgomery, Rothschild, Johnson & Johnson, Twillsworth, Dolce, Gabbana,
13:46Von Zweiger, Second Montgomery.
13:48There are plenty of elongated jokes like this throughout the series.
13:51But the punchline wasn't funny enough to justify the setup.
13:54Barrington, Chadsworth, Big League Chew, Chesterfield, Kensington, Booth, Bishop,
13:58Longbottom, Nottingham, Meisterburger, Burgermeister, Tudor, Hapsburg, Rockefeller, Onassis.
14:02Number 16. DVD Commentary.
14:05When a show becomes a staple of American television,
14:08you can experiment and get creative with episodes.
14:11While some of these break the formula concepts have done reasonably well,
14:14You Can't Handle the Booth from Season 17 did not.
14:18An episode plays out as expected in front of us.
14:21But the difference is, the fictional cast of Griffins gets frustrated while recording DVD commentary.
14:26They're not even going to explain how we all got stuck.
14:29Season 16, ladies and gentlemen.
14:31Suddenly the family's stuck in the bannister slats.
14:34Ballister.
14:35Brian, seriously.
14:36While there are plenty of funny fourth wall-breaking moments,
14:38it proved a little too hard to follow for some.
14:41As a result, the episode became one of the lowest ever rated on IMDb.
14:46There wasn't a single final straw,
14:48as many user reviews claimed it was too dull to finish,
14:52pointing to a decline in the show's overall quality.
14:55Number 15. Peter saving the whale.
14:58When Peter gets promoted to forklift operator at work,
15:01he naturally starts having too much fun with his new vehicle.
15:05He tries to use it to rescue a beached sperm whale,
15:07only to accidentally impale the poor mammal.
15:10Step aside, I'll handle this.
15:11Give me some room.
15:12Afterward, we're subjected to a whole minute of Peter trying to dislodge the creature,
15:16only for it to fall completely apart in a grotesque display,
15:20as blood and organs topple out of the carcass.
15:23While we should maybe give props to the art directors and animators for not missing any gruesome details,
15:29fans were too busy gagging at the scene and feeling disheartened over the poor whale's suffering.
15:34Your whale come.
15:36Number 14. Vern and Johnny.
15:39Every now and then in the first few seasons,
15:41the action would be interrupted by two vaudevillian performers named Vern and Johnny.
15:45While Vern tried and usually failed to entertain viewers,
15:49Johnny was just there to play him off on a piano.
15:51Do not ask where the piano comes from.
15:53Now that's rich!
15:54Ha ha ha ha!
15:55Play me off, Johnny!
16:00While their antics were mostly harmless,
16:03fans got tired of them disrupting the episode,
16:05and even then-producer David Goodman admitted that they'd use the duo way too much.
16:10The gag was finally laid to rest when Stewie shot them to death in season 5,
16:14and aside from a few brief cameos,
16:16they haven't bothered us since.
16:18Number 13.
16:19Making fun of President Trump.
16:22Family Guy and its various animated sitcom competitors
16:24have never shied away from taking shots at high-profile figures.
16:28Political satire is an essential part of our media,
16:31but unfortunately, Trump Guy wasn't an excellent example of it.
16:35In this episode, Peter assists then-U.S. President Donald Trump,
16:39getting into all sorts of shenanigans as his press secretary.
16:42This country needs stronger border security.
16:44Our border security is the strongest in the world.
16:46What we need is to take care of our children.
16:49I can't get an erection.
16:50You think giving them amnesty is fair to the people who are already here?
16:53They're contributing to the economy.
16:55I've tried all the herbs.
16:56The episode is obviously taking shots at the man and his various controversies,
17:00but many fans found his depiction lazy.
17:03It was a pretty gross depiction at that,
17:05but the last straw for some was when he makes advances towards Meg.
17:10Oh please, every president since Washington has done this.
17:14Some might have quit this episode for making fun of a president they admired,
17:17while others just got agitated by the cheap humor.
17:20Number 12. Jesus is a Virgin
17:23The episode, I Dream of Jesus,
17:25in which the Son of God is made a fully formed character,
17:28is one of the most beloved episodes of Seth MacFarlane's show.
17:31But a follow-up appearance in the 2,000-year-old Virgin became one of the most hated.
17:36Alright, Jesus, nowadays everything is done on the internet.
17:39Alright, so we gotta get you on Facebook.
17:41Let me just close a couple of these windows.
17:44There we go. Sorry, I was up late last night.
17:46I had the house to myself.
17:47In season 13, Peter tries to get the Lord and Savior laid,
17:51eventually trying it with Lois.
17:53But overall, the episode was criticized for being edgy to garner more viewers,
17:58while lacking the substance to keep people laughing.
18:01And if there was a rock-bottom moment for the episode,
18:04it's the unfunny instance when Jesus' real middle name is revealed.
18:09I don't know, man. Jesus, Hitler, Christ sounds weird.
18:12So just go with H.
18:13Yeah.
18:14Number 11. Stewie's Therapist
18:16Stewie has a lot of issues.
18:19So it's no surprise that a visit to a child psychologist
18:22sees him sharing a lot of secrets and insecurities.
18:25Towards the end of the session, however,
18:27the doctor starts having a heart attack
18:29and asks Stewie to hand him his medicine.
18:32But Stewie refuses.
18:33I don't understand.
18:34Why aren't you getting my medication?
18:37It's true that Stewie is a sadistic little toddler
18:39and has killed plenty of times,
18:41but this was especially shocking
18:42because he didn't even get his hands dirty.
18:44I'm not going to get it.
18:46Is this because I made you wait?
18:48It's because I can't have anyone know the real me.
18:51Instead, he elected to ignore the pleas of someone
18:53who only wanted to help him
18:55and let the poor therapist suffer a slow, agonizing death,
18:59taking all of Stewie's secrets with him to the grave.
19:02Number 10. Male Sexual Assault is Disregarded
19:05Humor can be a great way to bring awareness
19:07to serious topics in the real world,
19:09but the Family Guy team handled this one poorly.
19:12Oh no, I dropped my pencil.
19:15Oh, I'll get it for you.
19:16In Peter Assment, Peter gets blackmailed
19:18and inappropriately harassed by his boss, Angela.
19:21The episode plays out very cynically,
19:24with one particular moment between Peter and Lois
19:26hitting a sore point for male victims.
19:28Peter, a woman can't sexually harass a man.
19:30Why not?
19:31I don't know, it just doesn't make any sense.
19:34I mean, guys like being touched by women.
19:36It's not harassment if you like it.
19:38But I didn't like it.
19:39While this highlights a real problem with these cases,
19:42the episode ends trying to create sympathy for the perpetrator.
19:45I just wish one person was able to find me attractive.
19:49But that's not too much to ask, is it?
19:52No.
19:53It was a bizarre episode,
19:55and even weirder for the late Carrie Fisher
19:57to be playing the role of an aggressor
19:59when she was a silent champion to victims of such crimes.
20:03Number 9.
20:04Stewie gets herpes.
20:06This moment removed any shadow of likability for Brian Griffin.
20:10After seeing a Blood Brothers ritual on television,
20:13Stewie asks Brian if they can share blood in the same way.
20:16Brian accepts,
20:17knowing full well he has a transmittable disease
20:20and ends up getting Stewie infected.
20:23The show pulls no punches,
20:24showing disgusting hard-to-watch imagery relating to the condition.
20:28Stewie, that's crazy.
20:29There's no way I gave you herpes.
20:30Then how do you explain this?
20:32While Stewie has been horrendously hurt before
20:34in episodes like Brian Griffin's House of Pain,
20:37the difference here is the perpetrator shows no remorse for his actions.
20:41It transforms Brian's character into an insensitive jerk,
20:44which we saw hints at just episodes before with Brian's a bad father.
20:48And you know what's weird?
20:50You're on a show.
20:51I'm a writer.
20:53It's almost like the universe is trying to,
20:55I don't know,
20:56make us work together or something.
20:58I don't know.
20:58Number 8.
20:59Lois cheats on Peter.
21:01Lois and Peter have never had the best marriage in the world,
21:04but they've always stuck together no matter what.
21:06However,
21:07this episode destroyed any respect you had
21:10for the matriarch of the Griffin household.
21:12Peter has been neglecting and insulting Lois recently,
21:15so she attempts to get with Meg's boyfriend, Anthony.
21:18The action of cheating on Peter is terrible enough,
21:21but what's worse is her interaction with her daughter afterward.
21:24It was an awful thing that I did.
21:26I never meant to steal him from you.
21:28Is that what you think?
21:29You stole him from me?
21:31Are you kidding?
21:32You couldn't steal him from me?
21:34Well,
21:34I do know a few things,
21:36Meg,
21:36and clearly if I wanted him,
21:38I could have him.
21:38Lois doesn't face any consequences for her actions
21:41and instead lays all the blame on Peter.
21:43And how the hell could you do that to me?
21:45Because Peter,
21:46you've been making me feel old and fat
21:48and unattractive and worthless.
21:50How do you expect me to respond?
21:51While it is a complex situation,
21:54it doesn't shine a very nice light on Lois' character.
21:58Number 7.
21:58Peter in the Boston Marathon
22:00While the rest of the episode Turban Cowboy
22:03was nothing to boast about,
22:04the worst moment came when Peter recalled
22:06how he won the Boston Marathon.
22:08Turns out he drove his car to the finish line,
22:10killing everyone in his path.
22:12It was an uninspired joke at the time,
22:14but then tragedy struck one month later
22:16with the Boston Marathon bombings.
22:19Fox pulled the episode from the airwaves
22:21and streaming services,
22:22and professional conspiracy theorist
22:24and tragedy troll Alex Jones went so far
22:26as to blame Family Guy for inspiring the incident.
22:29While that was quite a stretch,
22:31any way you look at it,
22:32the gag was in poor taste,
22:34especially in retrospect.
22:36Number 6.
22:37Meg the Martyr
22:38She's constantly tormented at school
22:41and her own family treats her like garbage.
22:44In Season 10's Seahorse Seashell Party,
22:47she's finally had enough
22:48and tears Chris, Lois, and Peter a new one.
22:51You're my mother,
22:52and you took a child's trust
22:54and smashed it into bits
22:56in a 17-year-long mission
22:57to destroy something that you killed a long time ago.
23:00The scene is unbelievably cathartic
23:02until Meg sees the way the family turns on each other
23:05and decides to allow herself to be their lightning rod.
23:08Maybe if I feel bad,
23:10they don't have to.
23:11This could be seen as a noble act on paper,
23:14but it really shows how toxic
23:15and dysfunctional the Griffin family is
23:17if they have to rely on Meg's misery
23:19to stay somewhat stable.
23:21A similar moment that made us rage quit
23:23was when Meg faked her death
23:24to get away from her family,
23:26but eventually came back.
23:28So close to freedom.
23:29I owe my sister an apology.
23:31I shouldn't have treated her the way I did.
23:33And I think if Meg were here today,
23:35she'd be the first one to agree.
23:37I am here!
23:39I'm right here!
23:40Number 5.
23:41Quagmire's Trial
23:42Quagmire is very controversial in this day and age
23:45since the character's humor revolves around
23:47questionable, intimate situations.
23:49During a party,
23:50Quagmire's hookup with a girl
23:51gets him promptly arrested.
23:54At his trial,
23:54he explains he ended up the way he is
23:56because his mother was very promiscuous.
23:58So you see, Your Honor,
24:00thanks to my mom,
24:01I never had a chance to be like everyone else.
24:03My misguided carnal instincts
24:05are the result of being raised by a sexual deviant.
24:08All I'm asking is that you give me the break
24:10that my childhood never did.
24:12While this does give context to his character,
24:14this shouldn't absolve him from his antics.
24:17In fact, it almost doesn't.
24:19But his mother is able to
24:20curry favor with the judge.
24:23Mom,
24:23did you?
24:24Yep.
24:25Twice.
24:25Instead of holding Quagmire somewhat accountable,
24:28all the blame is laid on a throwaway character.
24:31We could have seen a slightly mature response to his hijinks,
24:34but it gets disregarded using a lackluster excuse.
24:37Aw,
24:38Quagmire got away with it and learned nothing.
24:41That's great.
24:42Number 4.
24:43Peter marrying Chris?
24:45After Chris bonds with his grandpa Carter,
24:47Carter makes him the sole heir
24:49of the Pewterschmidt family fortune.
24:50A jealous Peter tries unsuccessfully
24:53to get on Chris's good side
24:54to earn a chance at the money.
24:56But things turn creepy real fast.
24:58There comes a time when every man looks at his son
25:00and thinks,
25:01I want to take this to the next level.
25:06Peter asks Chris to marry him,
25:09and Chris agrees.
25:11What makes this really tragic
25:12is that the only reason Chris went along with the escapade
25:16was so that he could spend time with his father,
25:18which by itself could have made for a decent enough theme,
25:21without the proposal thrown into the mix.
25:23Peter's uncomfortable jokes do nothing to help.
25:26Yeah, and I bet you're especially happy
25:28we're getting married on a Thursday.
25:30School yuck, right?
25:31Number 3.
25:32Stewie gets pregnant.
25:34We really, really wish we were joking,
25:36but no.
25:37Wanting to spend more time with Brian,
25:39Stewie uses Brian's DNA to impregnate himself.
25:42We could even use my old crib.
25:44You use your old crib.
25:45It might have been funny watching Stewie discover
25:47the joys of being an expectant mother
25:49if he weren't a toddler himself.
25:51When the childbirth finally comes,
25:53it's horrifically gruesome,
25:55even without seeing the actual birth.
25:57Worst of all,
25:58their children turn out to be human-puppy hybrids.
26:01Oh, I caught two of them trying to eat each other,
26:03so that's something we need to watch out for.
26:05Thanks to birth defects,
26:07some end up dying,
26:08while Stewie and Brian abandon the rest at a shelter.
26:10They might be an iconic duo,
26:12but this was a huge, disturbing no-no.
26:16Number 2.
26:17Jeff Fiekelman.
26:18We first met Quagmire's sister Brenda in Season 8,
26:21where we learned that she's constantly beaten
26:23by her boyfriend Jeff.
26:25In Season 10's Screams of Silence,
26:27the story of Brenda Q,
26:28we got another look at their toxic relationship,
26:30and it is a nightmare to watch.
26:33Jeff pushes Brenda around for the pettiest of reasons,
26:36and a lot of the blame is shifted onto Brenda
26:38for staying with him.
26:39Sadly, the fact that you are with Jeff
26:42proves to me that you have made a choice
26:45to make your life worse.
26:47Domestic violence is normally played for laughs
26:49on Family Guy,
26:50and in this episode,
26:52they tried to take it seriously and failed,
26:55which was somehow even more uncomfortable.
26:58Even the happy ending was more bittersweet
27:00than it should have been.

27:17Number 1.
27:18The Life of Brian Ratings Trap
27:20In the infamous episode Life of Brian,
27:23Brian's unexpected death forced fans
27:25to bid a tearful goodbye
27:26to one of the show's most beloved characters.
27:28Needless to say,
27:29fans were horrified or just enraged,
27:32and even launched a petition
27:33to bring the dog back.
27:35Brian, look out!
27:38What the hell?
27:40You're alive, my friend!
27:42What? Of course I'm alive.
27:43What the hell's going on here?
27:44However,
27:45Brian was miraculously saved
27:46via time travel two episodes later,
27:48and Seth MacFarlane tweeted
27:50that it was supposed to teach viewers
27:51a lesson about taking loved ones for granted.
27:54Unfortunately,
27:55this came off as emotionally manipulative
27:56and felt like a major ratings trap,
27:59resulting in probably the biggest backlash
28:01in Family Guy history.
28:03Which Family Guy moment
28:04nearly made you give up on the series?
28:06Let us know in the comments below.
28:07I don't have the parenting skills
28:09necessary to deal with this.
28:10I say we never speak of this again.
28:12I...
28:12I might move.
28:14I think hey dad make you month off.
28:15Teddy will begin.
28:17Teddy will begin.
28:21It is.
28:22I want you to walk.
28:23I want you to walk away from me.
28:23I want you to run.
