China's Guizhou province is back on high flood alert - as heavy rain hits for a second time this week.
Transcript
00:00Heavy rain is still pouring down in Guizhou province and many areas have seen
00:04rain of varying intensity. Some places are getting hit with intense downpours.
00:10When I was in Rongjiang County this morning, that's about a two-hour drive from here,
00:15earlier today the county raised both its rainstorm alerts and flood emergency response to the highest
00:21level. The main hydrological station on one of the rivers estimated that the peak water level
00:27could reach 253.5 meters around 5 p.m. That's two meters above the safety line. The local government
00:37has issued an urgent notice asking everyone in the county's seven major flood zones to leave their
00:43homes and evacuate immediately. One official told me that as of 6 p.m., more than 40,000 people have
00:52already been moved to safer locations due to the flood risk. Earlier this week, Rongjiang saw its
00:58worst flooding in 30 years. Six people died in the past few days. Rescue teams and volunteers have
01:06been busy clearing mud and disinfecting streets. But this new wave of rain is likely to bring fresh
01:14challenges to the recovery work. At the same time, China's National Meteorological Center says more
01:20heavy rain is on its way for the southwest, including the Sichuan Basin and northern Guizhou starting
01:27tomorrow. So some areas could get very heavy or even extreme rain along with thunderstorms and strong
01:34winds. Experts are warning that this could lead to more disasters like floods, landslides, and serious
01:41waterlogged.
