00:30He's very independent and doing all these things on his own.
00:34Freeman Dale Sanders is my birth name, but I've been called a lot of things.
00:40One of them is a graveyard adventurer, and I like being called that.
00:43First time I paddled the Mississippi River, I set the age record, 80 years old.
00:48Coming up here on June the 14th, I'm going to be 87 years old,
00:53and my plans are to reach the Gulf of Mexico in 87 days.
01:00And I have no doubt in my mind that he will accomplish this this year.
01:18It would be shocking and have to go to his funeral if he doesn't,
01:21because that's the only thing that's going to stop him.
01:27He does more than people half his age.
01:30He went from rim to rim at the Grand Canyon, the Appalachian Trail,
01:33the new trip down the Mississippi River.
01:35He's an inspiration for us all.
01:38People show up and just want to try to see him or meet him.
01:42Hi, Dale. Congratulations on making it to Alton.
01:46You're like halfway home.
01:48I've had trouble with that shoulder since I was a teenager.
01:51Pulled me out of joint while I was wrestling a bear in a circus.
01:54My father always thought the Mississippi River was a magical place.
02:00So to me, from growing up little and hearing his story about the Boiling River,
02:07Mississippi is a mysterious river to me.
02:09When you're 87 years old, it's tough day after day after day.
02:34There's mud and mosquitoes and the coldness.
02:38It just wears on the human body.
02:41And then it started raining.
02:44We are cutting rain.
02:46One day.
02:48Wow.
02:51The next day.
02:55The next day.
02:56Get in there, Dad.
02:57App, you okay?
02:59Okay.
02:59The swells are too big.
03:04I don't have a stunt man out here.
03:07I had a bad night.
03:08That's right.
03:09Probably the entire real old night.
03:14Okay, who got seasick?
03:16Chance of life time to see this.
03:18People wouldn't take it up.
03:22One of these days, I'm going to get old.
03:24Whoa.
03:36Oh!
03:37Whoa.
03:39Here we come.
03:41Oui, oui, oui, oui
