A list ranking head coaches on the hot seat has Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel at the very top. Will this be his last season in Miami?

00:01Joe Shad had tweeted it out, retweeted pro football talk.
00:05You know, Mike Florio, he's got the 2025 coaching hot seat list,
00:11and he has Mike McDaniel as the number one name
00:15on the NFL coaching hot seat list.
00:21Can't argue it.
00:23I know there's some coaches, you know, Stefanski.
00:26Just think about bad teams, but yeah.
00:29McDaniel's job security is not very strong.
00:31He's just run out of time.
00:33And again, you know, I think they're close,
00:37and I think last year was the outlier, but there's been,
00:40if you look at last year and accept it, it was a regression,
00:44and this will be what, his fourth season?

00:49Yeah.
00:49I mean, you've got to have results.
00:52You have too much talent.
00:53You've had too much talent on the roster to not have results
00:57after four seasons, so I do think him being number one
01:01on the coaching hot seat is probably a fair assessment.
01:04And for him, I think Tua's a gift and a curse,
01:07because Tua can run his stuff very well.
01:10Nobody else can.
01:11We've seen it.
01:12Nobody else they have on that roster can run his offense.
01:15But, Hawk, Mike McDaniels brought in, in my opinion,
01:18number one priority was to make the investment they made,
01:23the guy they took fifth overall, into a great quarterback.
01:28And I think he succeeded at that.
01:30Well, he did.
01:31But the reason he's brought in, though, is to at least win a playoff game,
01:35make that quarterback a great quarterback,
01:36so that translates then to postseason success.
01:41So he's got some of it done, but you don't have just, you know,
01:45a limitless timeline to get it all done.
01:47Right, but if I'm Mike McDaniel, I'm saying,
01:49hey, I got us into the playoffs,
01:52and I made Tua a pro-ball caliber quarterback.
01:55The one season we didn't make the playoffs, he wasn't available.
01:58And guess what?
01:59I need better, as you guys always say, ingredients in the kitchen.
02:04So I'm not even defending Mike McDaniel.
02:06But he's part of the team that's going shopping.
02:09Like, I mean, you know.
02:11And they underperform again.
02:13It's honestly, Alana, it's a lot that you bring up all the time.
02:15He underperforms against playoff teams.
02:19So we want you to win a playoff game.
02:21You play the Chiefs late.
02:22You play the Bills late.
02:23They always whoop your ass.
02:24You can't figure out a way to beat them somehow, some year.

02:36So Ben Johnson, to your point, I just lines up when you said it.
02:39Ben Johnson's there to make Caleb Williams' full potential hit.
02:42When Caleb starts playing well under Ben, Ben has to start winning games now.

02:48It's not just, hey, I got Caleb playing good.

02:51No, now it's time to win games.

02:53Obviously, I understand.
02:54Like, he needs to.
02:55I'm just saying, Mike McDaniel, in my opinion, held up his end of the bargain in terms of what it is he was brought in here to do.
03:02And then he could also say, hey, look, man, like, I need a better roster.
03:08I can't compete against the top teams because my roster just doesn't stack up against those teams.
03:13Any losing coach could say that, right?
03:16Yeah.
03:16It just, that would fall on deaf ears if I was an NFL owner or team president or whatever.
03:21Yeah.

03:21Anyone who doesn't lose needs, you know, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts.
03:26And, like, but I can't deliver that.
03:27So, you have to figure out a way how to, you know, exploit what we do have for maximum gain.
03:34And if you can't do it, I'll find someone who can't.
03:37And so, your point about the groceries, if McDaniels is gone, Chris Greer is gone.
03:44No doubt.
03:45That you have to total, you're talking about a reset?
03:48I don't know roster reset, but you have to administratively reset.
