'They Won't Even Stand By The Law': Jamie Raskin Unloads On GOP Over Police Attacks On Jan. 6

During remarks on the House floor Thursday, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) spoke about the January 6 Capitol Insurrection.

00:00is recognized. Well, thank you, Mr. Speaker. I'm pleased to hear my colleague invoke Abraham Lincoln

00:04in the rejection of disunion, secession, and violent attack on the federal government.

00:11Neither of my colleagues who's on the floor has said a word explaining why they won't put the

00:16plaque up to honor hundreds and hundreds of police officers on the Capitol Police Force,

00:21on the Metropolitan Police Department, and the Montgomery County Police throughout the region

00:25who came to defend us. Why won't they put the plaque up if they're really such big supporters of the

00:31police? That's a law. They just want to pass a resolution. Their resolution, of course, is

00:36completely political. One of their whereas clauses is whereas California's leadership has prioritized

00:42protecting illegal immigrants and violent individuals over U.S. citizens. That's just

00:46defamation of the law enforcement officials in California. It is defamation against the governor

00:56of California, the mayor of Los Angeles, the sheriff in Los Angeles County, the chief of police in L.A.,

01:02all of whom fought to put that violence down when riots broke out, something Donald Trump never did

01:11when the riots broke out that he incited against us. And remember, he was impeached by this body for

01:17inciting a violent insurrection against us. So not only did he not do anything to defend us, he was the

01:24one who caused the whole chain of events that led to the deaths that took place that day, the violence

01:31that took place that day. And my colleague won't utter a word about it. He won't say a word about it. And,

01:37you know, so all of the, uh, attempt to focus everybody over there is a distraction from the

01:44fact that they still to this day are defending what Donald Trump did with January 6th. And why?

01:50Because they also defend his lie that he won the 2020 presidential election, which he lost by more

01:56than seven million votes, 306 to 232 in the electoral college. So, uh, I don't know what the meaning of

02:05their totally partisan resolution is when they won't even stand by the law that it was signed into

02:12law by the president to put a plaque up, a simple plaque up honoring police officers who fought tooth

02:20and nail for hours against the most bloody, vicious, violent, insurrectionist mob ever to attack the

02:27Capitol of the United States. I'm going to recognize the distinguished gentlelady from California, Ms. Chu,

02:32for two and a half minutes.
