00:44Oh! Down goes Jonas for the first time in his career!
00:48Or sent by a major home field!
00:50Castillo's in trouble!
00:52Castillo's in trouble!
00:58What
01:00a fight!
01:02It's
01:04Showtime!
01:06Tonight our location
01:08the Big Apple with the spotlight
01:10focused solely on the heavyweight division.
01:12Welcome to Brooklyn, New York
01:14where it's been over a hundred years
01:16since this borough has hosted a heavyweight championship fight.
01:18The heavyweight championship fight.
01:20Well, tonight all of that comes to an end
01:22with not one, but two heavyweight world title fights here on Showtime Championship Boxing.
01:28Hello, everyone.
01:32I'm Brian Custer.
01:33Welcome to the 30th year of Showtime Championship Boxing.
01:36We're very excited about beginning our new year here at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn,
01:41which has quickly become a regular host for world title fights.
01:44The heavyweight division has become a lot more compelling over the past year.
01:48Huge fights, new champions.
01:50Deontay Wilder became the WBC heavyweight champion nearly a year ago from today.
01:55Tonight, he defends that crown for the third time.
01:58The man trying to dethrone him, Poland's Artur Spilka.
02:02Plus, we'll begin the night with the IBF heavyweight belt on the line
02:05as Charles Martin fights Vatislav Glasgow for the vacant title.
02:10Two heavyweight championship fights coming up with the big men of the sport.
02:15So, when you have an event this big, you need a really big team.
02:19And we've got one here.
02:20You like that Drake reference, huh?
02:21I love it, baby.
02:22I love it, baby.
02:23Mauro Ranallo, Al Bernstein, and one of Brooklyn's favorite sons, Paulie Malignaggi.
02:27You know, guys, last time there was a heavyweight title fight here in Brooklyn 115 years ago.
02:34Jim Jeffries knocked out Jim Corbett in the 23rd round.
02:38It's been a long time coming.
02:39And, Al, it's also been a long time coming since we've seen some excitement in the heavyweight division.
02:44Tyson Fury recently beat Vladimir Klitschko.
02:47The heavyweight division had been dormant for so long.
02:50But now, all of a sudden, it's got interesting and become wide open.
02:53Yeah, it has.
02:54By the way, I was not at the Corbett Jeffries fight.
02:56You pointed that out.
02:57I want to point that out.
02:58Now, you remember the movie Shrek?
02:59I do.
03:00Okay.
03:01Remember how Shrek finally convinced Donkey that ogres, like onions, have layers?
03:06Well, who knew?
03:07The heavyweight division has layers.
03:09Okay.
03:10So, one layer, we know, has Fury and Wilder, two big men with big personalities.
03:14And Vladimir Klitschko trying to win his title back.
03:17Then, just underneath that, we've got Martin and Glasgow, who we see fighting here tonight,
03:21and Alex Vander Pivetkin.
03:23And, there are the three young guns in the heavyweight division.
03:27Luis Ortiz, Anthony Joshua, and Joseph Parker, who are champions in waiting, to be sure.
03:32And, if that's not enough, David Haye won today, and he's trying to get back from the mix.
03:38Now, what does all that mean for the heavyweight division?
03:40It means that we have good, interesting, and we hope competitive fights still to come.
03:46Only a Hall of Famer can get away with comparing the heavyweight division to Shrek and using the
03:52donkey reference.
03:53You know, Paulie, hey, Deontay Wilder, he has been very vocal that he wants to follow in
03:58Lennox Lewis' footstep, become the next undisputed heavyweight champion.
04:02But first, he's got to get through Artur Spilka, who, of course, will have the crowd on his side
04:07here tonight.
04:08And Spilka wants to make history himself here tonight.
04:10So, why don't you break down the main event for us?
04:13Well, Wilder's now been a champion for a year.
04:15He won a piece of the heavyweight title a year ago this weekend.
04:18So, that honeymoon phase is sort of passing.
04:20He's had a couple of defenses against decent opposition, but not really the top, top level.
04:25And he's upping that level of opposition little by little.
04:28He's shown a tremendous amount of ability, a great jab, terrific athletic ability.
04:32But at times, he has a tendency to sometimes lose his composure.
04:36He tends to lose his positioning.
04:39At 6'7", you really, if you can maintain your composure and really maintain that proper
04:44distance in fights, you make it very difficult for guys to beat you.
04:47Vladimir Klitschko was a master at that in his prime.
04:50Wilder has that same kind of height if he can really retain that composure he so desperately needs.
04:55Tonight in Spilka, he's got a guy who's dangerous if he loses that composure.
04:58Because Spilka is no stranger to exciting fights.
05:01He's gone up and down during his career, no stranger to the canvas.
05:05And a fight with Mike Malo he had not too long ago, it was like a yo-yo fight.
05:08Both guys were up and down, up and down, tremendously exciting.
05:11If you lose that composure with Spilka, you're giving him his only chance.
05:15Because Spilka needs that excitement, Spilka needs that exchange.
05:18And if you give him that exchange, not only does he become a dangerous puncher,
05:21but he also gets the crowd involved on his side.
05:23And tonight, the crowd is very pro-Polish.
05:26Well, if you talk to Deontay Wilder, I guess we're going to see some exchanges.
05:29He said his last two opponents have taken him rounds.
05:31He wants to get back to being exciting and knocking out opponents.
05:34We'll see if it happens here tonight.
05:36Now, Mo, we're also going to begin with another heavyweight title fight.
05:39How did we get here?
05:41Well, Tyson Fury had his IBF belt stripped from him when he agreed to a rematch with Vladimir Klitschko,
05:46which will take place later this year, instead of fighting his mandatory,
05:49who is Vyacheslav Glaskov.
05:51So now, Glaskov and the American, Charles Martin,
05:54they get the opportunity to fight for this vacant title.
05:57That's right.
05:58Glaskov, the Ukrainian, a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist.
06:01He owns a big advantage when it comes to high-level experience.
06:04He's gone seven rounds or more, nine times to only once,
06:08only once for Martin.
06:10You could say the boxing gods have been smiling upon Glaskov.
06:13He's remained unbeaten despite three key belts that many ringside observers felt his opponents deserve to win.
06:20Now, meanwhile, the undefeated American Martin is known as Prince Charles,
06:25and he's been getting the royal treatment from the IBF.
06:28He hasn't defeated anyone of note, and yet here he is vying for a vacant title.
06:32At 6'5", around 250 pounds, he has the size of a modern-day heavyweight.
06:37He's exhibited fight-ending power, and he's a southpaw to boot.
06:41What we're going to find out tonight, Brian, is if he's ready for his close-up.
06:45Well, Glaskov was very confident in our fighter meeting.
06:47He said, listen, in my opinion, Martin doesn't have the talent to hang with me,
06:51doesn't think he's fast at all.
06:52But one key point, he also, Glaskov said he's never faced a lefty as a professional.
06:57Martin's a lefty.
06:58Let's see if that plays out here tonight.
06:59All right, I'm going to let you guys get ready to call all the action.
07:02In the meantime, we, as always, we invite you to visit our social media sites.
07:07Now, we are constantly posting new material.
07:10All right, it is time for our first world title fight of the evening.
07:15With the call, Mauro Ranallo, Al Bernstein, and Paulie Malignaggi.
07:20All right, BC, we are set for the vacant IBF Heavyweight Championship.
07:24It will pick the undefeated Charles Martin looking to become just the sixth southpaw
07:30to own a piece of the heavyweight championship.
07:32He faces the 21-0-1 Vyacheslav Tsar Glaskov,
07:37who, as we mentioned, was an Olympic bronze medalist for the Ukraine.
07:41Let's go to Jimmy Leonard Jr.
07:48Ladies and gentlemen, from Barclays Center here in Brooklyn, New York,
07:52we welcome you.
07:54As tonight, we celebrate 30 years of Showtime Championship boxing
07:59with a World Heavyweight Championship doubleheader.
08:04And now, please welcome the boxers as they make their way to the ring
08:07for the first of our championship attractions,
08:10the IBAF Heavyweight Championship of the World.
08:16And now, making his way to the ring,
08:19here is the IBF undefeated number one contender from the Ukraine,
08:24Vyacheslav Tsar Glaskov, the Tsar Glaskov.
08:35One-year-old Glaskov from Ukraine now makes his home in Florida.
08:41It was back in March of last year that he defeated Steve Cunningham via contentious decision,
08:47Al, in a heavyweight title eliminator to earn the right to challenge for this Alphabet organization's championship.
08:55He has won seven fights in a row since another contentious outcome,
08:59a ten-round draw in February of 2013 against Malik Scott.
09:04It's a young man who started boxing at age 10, right, had 300 amateur fights.
09:09He has had 22 as a pro.
09:11And the fact of the matter is, he's been a steady performer,
09:15but they want more than steady tonight.
09:17His team wants him to be aggressive.
09:19They think he's got to come out with fire tonight if he's going to win this fight.
09:23We'll see if he can.
09:31And making his way to the ring,
09:33here is the undefeated number three IBF heavyweight contender,
09:37Prince Charles Martin!
09:41So who exactly is Prince Charles Martin?
09:52He's a 29-year-old born in St. Louis,
09:55now calling North Hollywood, California home.
09:58At the age of 17, he did a stint in jail for drug trafficking
10:03and, well, in fact, went to jail a total of three times.
10:06He said his life turned around when he joined the Mormon Church.
10:09He got his GED then.
10:11He was told about Michael King's all-American heavyweight program
10:14in Carson, California.
10:15Six months later, he went for an assessment.
10:18He began his boxing career and now, Paulie, he's 22-0-1
10:22with 20 wins inside the distance.
10:25Had over 60 amateur fights, which for a heavyweight is not a low total.
10:29And yet, again, without really any marquee names on his resume,
10:33somehow finds himself vying for a championship tonight.
10:36And that's the thing, that's the big question,
10:37the thing you just mentioned, Mara,
10:39about not having a key heavyweight name on his resume.
10:42Yet, he still remains undefeated and has come up slowly.
10:44The big question tonight is,
10:46Glasgow has not faced a tremendously big heavyweight.
10:48He's got the bigger resume,
10:50but nobody really the size of Charles Martin.
10:52And that could be a bit of a difference maker.
10:54Martin does have a bit of athletic ability.
10:56He has a southpaw stance.
10:57As Brian Custer said in the introduction,
10:59Glasgow has never fought a southpaw as a pro.
11:02Probably he has an amateur, but we'll see some things that can come into play.
11:05And again, he is dedicating this fight tonight to the late Michael King,
11:09the famed producer who developed Oprah, Wheel of Fortune, Dr. Phil.
11:13He died in May of last year at the age of 66.
11:15So, Martin dedicating the fight tonight to the man who gave him his boxing career.
11:19Let's go to the tail of the tape, Al.
11:21Now, when we look at these numbers, okay, if you just look at the numbers,
11:26Charles Martin has the edge in age.
11:29He has the edge in height.
11:31He has the edge in reach.
11:35He has the edge in everything.
11:38So you cross those off, and in every instance, he has the edge.
11:42But fights are not fought just by the numbers.
11:46Glastoff has better experience, as we've pointed out,
11:49and he is a fighter who believes he can win this.
11:51So we'll see how it goes.
11:52Intangibles.
11:53Yes, intangibles.
11:54And the rules for tonight's fight.
11:56There is no standing eight count, no three knockdown rule.
11:58The referee or doctor can stop the fight.
12:00A fighter cannot be saved by the bell in any round.
12:03If an accidental foul or headbutt causes a fight to end within four rounds,
12:06it's a no decision.
12:07After four rounds, they go to the scorecards for a technical decision.
12:11Let's get the official introductions from our Hall of Fame ring announcer,
12:15Jimmy Lennon Jr.
12:20Ladies and gentlemen, a very good evening to you,
12:22and we welcome you to this big and historic night of boxing
12:26as Barclays Center hosts Brooklyn, New York's first heavyweight world title bouts in 116 years.
12:35Tonight's action is brought to you by DiBella Entertainment
12:38in association with Warriors Boxing and Showtime
12:42as sponsored by Corona La Cerveza Mas Fina.
12:46This bout is sanctioned by the IBF, the president and supervisor in attendance, Daryl Peoples,
12:52along with the New York State Athletic Commission, the chairman, Tom Hoover.
12:55Introducing to you our three judges scoring this bout from ringside.
12:59From Buffalo, New York, Eric Marlinsky.
13:03From Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Benoit Houssel.
13:07And from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Nelson Vasquez.
13:12Introducing our third man of the ring, the referee in charge of this bout, Earl Brown.
13:19All right, fans, here we go.
13:22Twelve rounds of boxing for the vacant IBF Heavyweight Championship of the World.
13:32Introducing to you first on my left.
13:34He is fighting out of the red corner, wearing blue chunks with white trim,
13:37fighting out of Sunny Island, Florida by way of Lugansk, Ukraine.
13:42He weighed in at already 218 pounds.
13:45He is undefeated in his campaign in the ring with a record of 20 wins, no losses, one draw,
13:50with 13 wins coming by way of knockout.
13:53Tonight, he is making his first attempt at a world title.
13:56Here is the 2008 Super Heavyweight Olympic bronze medalist
14:01And the undefeated IBF number one contender, introducing Vacheslav, the Tsar Glaskov.
14:15And his opponent across the ring on my right.
14:18Fighting out of the blue corner, this vacant championship attraction,
14:21wearing gold trunks with black trim.
14:23Training in Big Bear Lake, California.
14:25He fights out of North Hollywood, California.
14:29He weighed in at 249 and one half pounds.
14:32He also is undefeated with a record of 22 wins, no losses, and one draw with 20 big
14:39wins coming by way of knockout, also making his first attempt at a world title.
14:45Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the hard-hitting and undefeated IBF number three
14:49ranked heavyweight, introducing Prince Charles Martin.
14:59Once again, our referee in charge, now to give instructions, is Earl Brown.
15:11Okay, gentlemen, you've received your instructions in the dressing room.
15:15Obey my commands at all times, protect yourselves at all times.
15:19Now, anything from here down is going to be considered low.
15:22Anything from here down is going to be considered low.
15:26Touch gloves if you want.
15:29All right, back to your corners.
15:30So here, as we begin the 30th anniversary of Showtime Championship Boxing tonight, four
15:35heavyweights will be throwing down, looking to put each other to sleep in the city that
15:39never sleeps.
15:43Referee Earl Brown calls for the belt, and we are underway with round one.
15:50I guess nobody wanted to touch gloves.
15:53Charles Martin in the gold with black trunks, Glasgow in the dark blue with white.
16:04You're probably going to see a bit of a feel-out process being that there's a righty versus
16:07lefty, and a lot of times they've got to get acclimated to each other a little bit more
16:11than just the regular two right-handed fighters, you know?
16:14It is highly odd to have two self-paws buying for a heavyweight championship on the same
16:21bill.
16:22Again, Martin looking to become just the sixth left-handed world champion.
16:26The first, of course, American Michael Moore back in 94.
16:28I was just going to say, up until Michael Moore, there hadn't been a South Pole heavyweight
16:31champion.
16:32And now in this world of multiple heavyweight championships and multiple championships,
16:35we're now at six just 20 years later.
16:37We've talked about the opposition level, and Glasgow has fought much better fighters, but
16:43we've also talked about the size difference.
16:46One thing to watch for in this first round, and as we continue, can Glasgow get in the overhand
16:51right?
16:51That's a big weapon for him.
16:53And there are way fewer self-paws in the heavyweight division than in any other division.
16:57The first lefty to challenge for the heavyweight title was like Spilka coming up in the main
17:02event, a European Karl Mildenberger, who was stopped by the great Muhammad Ali in 1966.
17:08Of course, the GOAT turns 74 tomorrow, the one-year anniversary of Deontay Wilder's heavyweight
17:13title reign.
17:14He's coming up in the main event against Archer Spilka.
17:17And there is a huge Polish contingent here at the Barclays Center.
17:21You saw Martin use that right hook there.
17:25Cesaro's Glasgow keeps moving to Martin's right, which obviously you want to do that if you're
17:29fighting a southpaw, but Martin would be well served to use that right hook, even just
17:33as a stoppage, a moving stopper, so to speak.
17:37I don't know if I used that correctly, Al.
17:38But, you know, you're just trying to basically keep him from moving to that direction.
17:42Exactly.
17:43Glasgow has been able to get his jab in more, I think, early here than he might have anticipated.
17:48No, that's the thing with Glasgow.
17:50We talked about how he hasn't fought any southpaws as a pro, but he's had an extensive amateur
17:53career, and you tend to fight a lot of those southpaws in the amateurs.
17:56His straight left hand down the middle scores for Martin.
18:00Getting to know you first round with 45 seconds left in the opening frame.
18:06Stiff jab from Glasgow.
18:10Neither man throwing a lot of punches.
18:11Martin only 22.
18:13Glasgow's 30, rather, for Martin.
18:1725 for Glasgow.
18:17These are not active heavyweights, especially early in the fight.
18:20Martin has stopped 12 straight opponents.
18:23That's a career high.
18:26Comes forward with the left hand.
18:28Puts Glasgow on his back foot momentarily.
18:33Starting to swing a little harder, is Martin there.
18:36Starts to stick the pool cue jab.
18:3980-inch reach for the 6'5", Prince Charles Martin.
18:44Come on!
18:45We will go to the keys to victory, and we will start out with Charles Martin.
18:54Now, he doesn't want to throw arm punches.
18:56He has done that from time to time.
18:58We didn't see much of that in round one.
19:00Combinations.
19:00He's a very good combination puncher.
19:02Once he gets going, he wants to keep that left up to avoid the right hand and the chin down.
19:07He has a habit of keeping his chin way up.
19:10As for Glasgow, do not be a statue.
19:16Sometimes he just doesn't throw punches.
19:19And when he doubles with the jab, which we saw a little bit of in the first round, it's very effective.
19:24And, of course, I mentioned the overhand right.
19:26That will be his ticket, perhaps, in this fight.
19:44The bell in round two here at the Barclays Center.
19:47Our first of two heavyweight championship fights.
19:49Glasgow has had issues with taller opponents, with skill, but he also has fought the much better opposition than Martin.
20:01We'll have to see how this plays out as he attacks the body with the right hand.
20:06You can almost feel a little bit of a different demeanor from Glasgow here in round two.
20:09You know, they've harped on him to throw more punches.
20:12And he's coming out with a little more aggressive stance and attitude.
20:16In talking to Martin when we asked how he started boxing as he lands a nice straight left hand down the middle,
20:22he said he never grew up wanting to become heavyweight champion of the world.
20:25In fact, he had aspirations of playing in the NBA.
20:28He also considered a military career and dabbled in mixed martial arts before turning to the sweet science at the age of 19
20:34as Glasgow attacks the body with a right.
20:37And it's easier target to reach as the body for Glasgow being so much shorter.
20:43The straight right hand to the stomach is probably the safest punch at the moment while he's experimenting to see if he can find anything else.
20:49Yeah, that's a good point.
20:50Neither of these men will push a hugely fast pace.
21:03They haven't in the past.
21:05Well, like you said, Al, during the fighter meeting, his camp told us that Glasgow,
21:09they wanted to make him meaner.
21:10They wanted him to start more aggressively.
21:12Yeah, they do.
21:13And especially in a fight like this where Martin doesn't have the experience at this level,
21:17you kind of want to start bossing it early if you're Glasgow and show him that,
21:20hey, you don't belong at this level.
21:21If you let him work himself into the fight, he's going to gain that confidence.
21:25Glasgow's biggest win came in March of 2014, winning a 12-round unanimous decision
21:30against 37-year-old former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Thomas Adamic.
21:35And again, Martin, well, the names he's defeated aren't even household names of their own households, guys.
21:40But Glasgow's definitely the highest-level fighter he's fought.
21:45But, you know, Henry Tillman said it, and we see a little bit of it now.
21:48He said the thing about Charles Martin that impresses him,
21:51and, of course, Tillman, a former champ, a world Olympic champion and a great pro,
21:57he said he's calm.
21:58He stays calm, stays within himself, and that's what he likes.
22:02So this moment may not be too much for him.
22:05Martin has been very active by today's standards.
22:08Went 4-0 last year as they exchanged body shots.
22:11His main trainer is Jamal Abdullah.
22:15Under 30 seconds left in the second.
22:18A cautious start to this heavyweight affair.
22:22Glasgow, not only with the GM, but when he's thrown the left hook,
22:25which I think is very effective against the lefty,
22:27he has landed that punch.
22:29It's not his money punch, but I think it's something he wants to throw more of in this fight.
22:32And it comes over that blind shoulder because it's coming from that blind side from their back.
22:36Because a softball, you know, your right shoulder is your leader.
22:39So if your shots come from behind, sometimes they don't see it out.
22:41So, yeah, it's a good point.
22:45Let's go to Jim Gray standing by with Deontay Wilder.
22:48All right, Mauro, thank you very much.
22:50Champ, you guys got after each other pretty good at the photo op.
22:53What was the problem, and is there some bad blood?
22:55No, it's not bad blood, just on his behalf, I think a little nervousness.
23:00You know, this is the first rodeo here on a big stage like this fighting for a title.
23:04I think he had more pressure going against himself than I.
23:07He had the Polish community, and then he wanted to be the first Polish heavyweight champion of the world.
23:11That's a lot of pressure on a guy that can't.
23:13And in our meeting yesterday, he signed this card to us when we left, and the new.
23:18And then he signed his name, Spilka.
23:20What do you make of that?
23:21Pretty confident.
23:22Well, you got to have confidence in this business.
23:24This is the hurt game, and I'm looking to hurt him.
23:27What concerns you most?
23:29Nothing.
23:29Nothing at all.
23:30I'm in shape.
23:31I'm fit.
23:32I'm ready to go.
23:33I'm ready to break this curse over 115 years.
23:35I'm here in Brooklyn, baby.
23:37What other place to be to do it?
23:38You know, I'm ready to go.
23:39Best of luck.
23:40And he signed the card when I showed it to him.
23:41And still, Deontay Wilder.
23:44Deontay, we'll see you after the fight.
23:45Thank you, Jim.
23:46That's coming up later tonight.
23:49The second of our two heavyweight title fights.
23:52Here in Brooklyn.
23:54As the third round begins.
23:55Watch your feet, guys.
23:56Watch your feet.
23:57Referee O'Brown telling them to watch their feet, of course, with the Orthodox vs. Southpaw
24:01fighter.
24:02Martin wants to keep that lead foot outside of Glasgow's.
24:05Martin becoming a little more aggressive.
24:06And he said he was going to display an angry heart.
24:09He said that Glasgow style would be the easiest thing he's seen.
24:13He guaranteed it wouldn't go 12 rounds, so it might be the time to start getting busy
24:18out.
24:18He and Martin have said, you know, nobody wants to see heavyweights go 12 rounds.
24:22They want to see knockouts.
24:23Martin's being very aggressive and trying to impose his will in this round.
24:27Glasgow has never been knocked down.
24:29And that's the thing about Martin, you know, with Glasgow, folks, you don't want him to
24:34get that confidence.
24:35And this fight started slow.
24:36Martin would kind of work his way into it.
24:38Neither of these two heavyweights have been down in their respective pro careers.
24:42One thing I'd like to see Martin start trying, though, because Glasgow consistently tries
24:45that right hand to the stomach, and it's been a safe punch so far, because whether he
24:48lands it or not, he hasn't paid for it.
24:50I'd like to see Martin hold his ground, roll his right shoulder, and kind of come back
24:53or left off.
24:54Something bothered Glasgow during that knock, that slip.
24:58Because his, just his demeanor as a fighter has changed.
25:02Clubbing left hands by Martin.
25:04Trying to exploit his four and a half inch reach advantage with the jab.
25:11A minute and a half gone in round number three.
25:14Scheduled for 12 for the vacant IBF title.
25:17And Ken Buck and Al, you said it.
25:20He gets clipped.
25:23And I think he hurt his ankle.
25:24Six.
25:25It was hurt from before.
25:27Eight.
25:28Can you continue?
25:30Tom, can you continue?
25:31You don't want to fight?
25:32All right, it's over.
25:33And the fight is over.
25:36Prince Charles Martin has just become the IBF heavyweight champion.
25:46Wow.
25:46And there is a celebration from the Martin family.
25:51He said I walked up in the leg right away with Charles Martin.
25:53And you see the bad breaks that Glasgow has had.
25:56The good breaks that Glasgow has had in his heart.
25:58I caught up with him.
25:59It's almost weird.
26:00Because he got a couple of draws against some high-level fighters that maybe some people
26:04thought he didn't deserve.
26:05And then literally, no pun intended, a bad break here.
26:08He may have broken his ankle.
26:10Whatever the injury, he hurt his right leg, whether it's knee, his ankle.
26:14And you felt it from, as I mentioned, from the first slip.
26:18Right.
26:19You could feel he wasn't the same.
26:21I think it was more the ankle than the punch that hurt him.
26:24Yeah, I agree.
26:25We'll kind of get a good look at it here to see what landed.
26:31Nothing landed.
26:32Not much.
26:32Nothing landed.
26:34To be honest, I think the injury came from that.
26:38And let's take a look at the legs.
26:40Because...
26:41Yeah, that's what I thought here on the 4K camera.
26:46He throws it right to the body.
26:49And their legs get tangled up.
26:51And there's his right leg, which twists in an odd kind of a way.
26:56It was his knee.
26:57Or, yes.
26:58And I believe he had already tweaked it before.
27:03And you, whatever the case is, it's a serious issue.
27:04Paulie Malignaggi, the fastest person alive to get a medical degree.
27:09I was just guessing once we didn't see any ankle roll on that.
27:13It's not a laughing matter, I know.
27:14And hopefully...
27:14I'll tell you what.
27:15Spook and Waldo have to suddenly get ready quickly.
27:17They have to warm up quickly.
27:18You know, this fight's on it so slowly.
27:19If you have a fight right after...
27:20This is good, though.
27:21This is a good sign.
27:22He's walking off.
27:23Yeah.
27:23Under his own.
27:24That doesn't necessarily mean he's not a terror.
27:25No, no.
27:26Exactly.
27:26But shows his toughness.
27:29So, we will make it official now.
27:32Let's go up to Jimmy Lennon Jr.
27:39Ladies and gentlemen, we have the time of 1 minute 50 seconds.
27:43In round number 3, Glaskov suffering an injury to his knee
27:48and is unable to continue.
27:50He is the winner by way of technical knockout.
27:54Still undefeated.
27:56And the new IBF heavyweight champion of the world, Prince Charles Martin.
28:06So, Prince Charles Martin becomes the second current heavyweight champion,
28:13the second southpaw champion in history,
28:16joining another American Michael Moore,
28:18or the sixth joining another American Michael Moore.
28:20Let's go to Jim Gray, who's standing by with the winner.
28:24All right, Morrow.
28:24Thank you very much.
28:25I just spoke to Dr. Jeff Kaplan,
28:27and he believes that it could be a torn right ACL in the knee,
28:33which has caused the stoppage of this fight.
28:36Charles, congratulations to you.
28:38An abrupt ending.
28:40Yet you still win the title.
28:42Kind of mixed emotions at this moment?
28:44Yeah, I still wanted to fight, you know.
28:47It was a 12-round fight.
28:49We trained for 12 rounds,
28:50and we was just going to get stronger as the rounds went.
28:52When they go down, we go up.
28:55Did you notice anything that might have happened earlier in the fight
28:58that caused that knee to have the problem when it ended?
29:01Um, not really.
29:03He just kind of twisted his ankle, it looked like.
29:06When I hit him, you know, I guess the force of, you know, him.
29:11Actually, he didn't connect on that.
29:12He didn't connect.
29:13No, but I'm saying, just anywhere I hit, anywhere I land,
29:17there's enough force.
29:19I hit him in the body, and his legs will fly out.
29:22I'm back, back of him.
29:23It's true.
29:24Take a look right there, Charles.
29:26Here's what happens.
29:29You just kind of grazed him right here,
29:30and take a look at what happens.
29:32Tell us what you're...
29:33Hey, it's boxing, you know.
29:38I don't know.
29:40Congratulations, Charles, under these conditions.
29:41I know you still have the championship.
29:43Good luck as the champ, and thank you.
29:45All right, Mauro, back to you.
29:47So, Prince Charles Martin is the IBF heavyweight champion.
29:50Right now, an apology to Dr. Paulie Malignaggi, as it appears it was.
29:53St. Neandry, Al, as we revisit what just went down.
29:56A strange start to the 30th anniversary of Showtime Championship Boxing.
30:00Yeah, Paulie got his medical degree from the University of Brooklyn.
30:04Before there was the final stoppage, there was a slip.
30:10And here's where he got...
30:14His leg got caught, and he fell down.
30:17And I believe, even though it was the left leg that got hurt, I think it tweaked his...
30:21His weight was on his right leg.
30:22He pulls back, and his weight was on his right leg in a weird position.
30:26And when he gets up, look, he's limping a little bit.
30:28Yeah, he put his weight on his right leg.
30:30And his demeanor changed, and then later, this is where the right knee apparently really
30:38got in trouble, Paulie.
30:39Yep.
30:39And again, he's pulling...
30:40You see, he's pushing his weight from his left foot, back on his right leg again.
30:44And clearly, the right leg is already injured from the initial slip.
30:46Precisely.
30:47And the right leg could not hold the weight up again.
30:50And that's the story.
30:51So, Prince Charles Martin is undefeated now at 23-0-1.
30:5721 wins inside the distance.
30:58We talked about the boxing god smiling upon Tsar Glaskov.
31:02They weren't smiling on him tonight as he suffers an injury and goes down to defeat for the
31:06first time.
31:10From an electric Barclays center here in Brooklyn, New York, WBC heavy...
