00:00People are unknowingly exposing themselves to tattoo inks that contain
00:03strange chemicals, according to new research. An analysis of 54 inks, commonly
00:09used in tattoo parlors, has uncovered that a whopping 45 of them contain
00:13additives, pigments, and chemicals that were not listed on the label. Science
00:18Alert notes that there is evidence suggesting small amounts of pigment can
00:22leak into lymph nodes. 15 inks contain propylene glycol which is an irritant
00:27for people with certain allergies, while other tested samples contain potentially
00:31harmful or strange substances like antibiotics. Experts do not know if these
00:36are accidental contaminations of tattoo inks, errors in labeling, or intentional
00:41but undisclosed additions that would require further investigation. The
00:46research has been published in Analytical Chemistry.
