00:00If it isn't me, it'll just be someone else.
00:03Really? Who do they send after you?
00:06Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:08And today, we're looking back at the Dark Knight's most brutal and vengeful moments across as many stories.
00:14Not only will there be spoilers ahead, but let this be a warning.
00:18Never try to cross the Batman.
00:21Let me give you one word of advice.
00:27Okay, I'll tell, I'll tell.
00:30Number 30. The Bat-Guy.
00:33Batman Ninja.
00:34In one of Batman's more bizarre movies, The Dark Knight, his villains and his closest allies are trapped in feudal Japan.
00:42In the final battle, Joker pulls out a giant mecha.
00:46Whoa, that thing's enormous.
00:49This contraption is better than I ever imagined, Gorilla Grodd.
00:54This country really will belong to the Joker.
00:57What does the Bat-Counter with?
00:59An army of monkeys.
01:01You heard that right.
01:02The monkeys come together to form an enormous monkey samurai, able to withstand the Joker's missiles and pack a punch.
01:10Just when it looks like Joker has the upper hand, a swarm of bats merges with the monkey to form a kaiju-sized Batman, known only as the Bat-God.
01:20The Dark Titan withstands the Joker's flames and incapacitates him with one devastating punch.
01:30What else would you expect from a giant Batman?
01:33Number 29.
01:35Losing control post-retirement.
01:37Batman The Dark Knight Returns Part 2.
01:40The biggest downside to Batman coming out of retirement is that now the Joker has a reason to live again.
01:46Once he hears about the Dark Knight's return, he snaps out of his catatonic state and immediately goes on a killing rampage across Gotham.
01:54Batman.
01:55Batman, darling.
02:00Tired of pulling his punches, Batman has a Batarang lodged in the clown's eye before chasing him into the tunnel of love.
02:08In one swift motion, the Bat paralyzes Joker from the neck down, and the Twisted Clown finishes the job by breaking his own neck.
02:17I made you lose control.
02:22And they'll kill you for it.
02:26Batman's only response is to spit on the corpse, forced to live with the fact that even if he didn't kill Joker, he still gave him what he wanted.
02:36Number 28.
02:37Threatening the Joker
02:39Batman Beyond Return of the Joker
02:41A haunting flashback shows what happened during Batman's final battle with the Joker.
02:46The clown had kidnapped Robin and transformed him into Joker Jr.
02:56He then torments Batman with a home movie showing how he tortured Robin, revealing that he knows the Bat's identity, and mocking his tragic backstory.
03:06At last, the Bat has had enough.
03:08He goes on the attack, wailing into Joker to the point of drawing blood, and outright threatening to break him in two.
03:15This was undeniably DCAU Joker's most despicable deed, and it proved that you can only push the Bat so far before he gets vicious.
03:37However, in the end, it's Robin who finishes off the Joker for everything he's been put through.
03:43Number 27.
03:45Plan Fenrir
03:46Batman Endgame
03:48Being the world's greatest detective, Batman has a contingency plan for each one of the Justice League members in case something ever goes wrong.
03:57One day, things go horribly wrong when the Justice League is infected with Joker toxin, and they're all gunning for Batman.
04:05However, the Bat came prepared with an enormous Justice Buster Batsuit.
04:10This robotic armor allows him to go toe-to-toe with the rest of the League and successfully incapacitate Wonder Woman, Flash, and Aquaman.
04:18Sadly, the armor is no match for Superman.
04:21But Batman still takes him down by spitting kryptonite gum in his face.
04:26Only Batman is bold enough to take on four metahumans and live to tell the tale.
04:31Number 26.
04:33Let's Get Nuts
04:34Batman
04:35The Joker has just invaded Vicki Vale's apartment and has her and Bruce Wayne cornered.
04:41Bruce, however, isn't so easily frightened.
04:44Instead, he calmly tells the Joker a story about a man who went crazy before swiftly smashing a vase, screaming at the top of his voice,
04:53Let's Get Nuts!
04:54Then he had us.
04:55Now you want to get nuts!
04:58Come on!
04:59Let's get nuts!
05:00However, Joker promptly shoots Bruce and walks away.
05:04Thankfully, Bruce comes prepared and sneaks away unharmed.
05:07Even if he was still just faking insanity, it still made us jump when he went medieval on the vase.
05:13Never rub another man's rhubarb.
05:15The fact that Michael Keaton improvised the iconic outburst made it even more effective in shocking everyone.
05:23Number 25.
05:24Brutalizing Falcone
05:26Batman The Telltale Series
05:28Depending on your choices throughout the game, the Bat can get vicious with his enemies.
05:34For example, near the end of Episode 1, Batman goes to confront Carmine Falcone face-to-face, and Gotham is watching him live on air.
05:43You think that's gonna work?
05:45I'm gonna light up this whole goddamn pipe!
05:51Get your goddamn hands off a nice suit!
05:54If the Bat chooses to be brutal, he impales Falcone with an iron pipe until he spills the beans.
06:01While he got his answers, he went beyond his usual scare tactics.
06:04He left lasting damage on the crime boss, and all of Gotham witnessed firsthand as he became the ruthless vigilante everyone expected him to be.
06:14Oh my god!
06:16Take him out!
06:17The worst part is that we only have ourselves to blame for choosing to brutalize Falcone.
06:24Number 24.
06:25Fearless Bruce
06:26The New Batman Adventures
06:28Rather than his trademarked fear toxin, the Scarecrow has developed one that actually removes fear, and Bruce has become the newest guinea pig.
06:37They don't seem so frightening now, do they?
06:39While pursuing the Scarecrow, he ends up in a cage with two enormous crocodiles who drag him under the water.
06:48Blood ripples throughout the water, but Bruce emerges perfectly unharmed, while the dead crocodile floats to the top.
06:55His being able to take on two fully grown reptiles isn't the most shocking part.
07:00What really surprises us is seeing him actually cross the line, even if it was because of Scarecrow's influence.
07:06This gas that takes away your fear, by any chance, did you breathe it?
07:11Yes, but I can handle it.
07:13It really makes us appreciate his no-killing rule a lot more when he's back to normal.
07:18Number 23.
07:20Batman Falls Apart
07:21Injustice
07:23In a swift freak accident, Damian Wayne has accidentally killed Dick Grayson.
07:29Batman reluctantly carries his fallen former sidekick away, while denouncing his actual son.
07:35I didn't mean to.
07:37I'm...
07:37I'm...
07:38I'm...
07:39I thought I could redeem you.
07:43I was wrong.
07:45When he gets back to the Batcave, Batman takes out his aggression on a training dummy, punching it until his knuckles bleed.
07:53Thankfully, Catwoman arrives to comfort him, allowing him to fall apart in her arms.
07:57Just for today.
07:59Don't be Batman.
08:01Don't be the mask.
08:03If she hadn't been there to calm him, who knows how Bruce would have kept beating that training dummy.
08:09We're not sure which would have broken first, the dummy or his fists.
08:14And given everything he's been through, it's best not to think about it.
08:18Number 22.
08:19A Bat In The Belfry
08:21Batman
08:21It's the final act in the ongoing battle against the Joker.
08:25The clown has taken Vicki Vale hostage, and the Bat is coming for him.
08:29I've got to get you to the church on time.
08:34The Bat relentlessly battles through the cathedral, walking through Joker's goons and even tossing one to his death.
08:40He finally confronts the clown, and he's not pulling any punches.
08:44The Joker killed his parents, and he's looking to return the favor.
08:48You could call this an empty threat, but since he had no qualms killing a henchman, seeing him relentlessly wail into the clown showed that he wasn't kidding.
08:58Wouldn't get a guy with glasses on, would you?
09:01Huh?
09:01This scene proved once and for all that Michael Keaton's Batman is not one to take lightly.
09:07Number 21.
09:08Interrogating The Joker
09:10The Dark Knight
09:11Interrogating The Joker about Harvey Dent and Rachel's location is proving fruitless, so Gordon decides to bring in the big guns.
09:19Batman
09:19From the start, The Bat proves he's not playing games by slamming Joker's head into the table and then smacking his hand down.
09:28See?
09:29You wanted me.
09:31Here I am.
09:32He keeps pressing for info on Harvey's location, but the Joker just dances around the questions, getting under the vigilante's skin more and more.
09:40Eventually, Batman has had enough, tossing Joker about and beating him into the glass.
09:46Where are they?
09:47Killing is making a choice.
09:50Where are they?
09:51Meanwhile, Joker is having the time of his life toying with the Bat.
09:55In the end, the Bat's savage interrogation didn't really help, as the clown's master plan is still right on schedule.
10:03Number 20.
10:04Terrifying Henchmen at the Docks
10:06Batman Begins
10:08In Batman Begins, Bruce Wayne formally introduces Gotham to the Dark Knight with a terrifying display of vigilantism.
10:22A bunch of criminals loyal to crime boss Carmine Falcone are moving illegal wearers on the docks.
10:28Suddenly, one of them disappears into the darkness.
10:31As the scene continues, more of the gangsters fall victim to the mysterious attacker.
10:35It's only when the henchmen are truly terrified that Batman reveals himself.
10:40Where are you?
10:41Here.
10:42Go!
10:43He takes him out with a whirlwind of blows so quickly and efficiently that they don't even have time to hit him back.
10:49After all the gang members are down, he ends his intimidating introduction with two legendary words.
10:56I'm Batman.
10:59Number 19.
11:01Roughing up the Red Hood
11:02Batman Under the Red Hood
11:05After a Lazarus pit brings former Robin Jason Todd back to life, he becomes a vigilante that doesn't mind killing.
11:13When Batman fails to talk sense into his old sidekick, he decides to beat some sense into the younger fighter instead.
11:20The Dark Knight keeps relatively calm until their battle leads to a bathroom.
11:27Enough! It's over!
11:29Once there, Batman snaps and starts destroying Jason and the room.
11:33The Dark Knight breaks several fixtures of this former sidekick's face.
11:37And to end their fight, Batman punches his protege through a wall.
11:41You say you want to be better than me, but it won't happen.
11:44Not like this!
11:47If the reveal that Joker had been captured didn't distract Bruce,
11:51Jason might have needed another Lazarus pit to recover from his mentor's beating.
11:55Number 18.
11:57Nearly Breaking His One Rule
11:59Batman Hush
12:00The Dark Knight's patience was pushed past its breaking point
12:04when he discovered his childhood friend Tommy Elliot was lying dead at the Joker's feet.
12:09Batman wasted no time before he started hitting the clown with all his might.
12:14Joker.
12:15You know what the joke is here?
12:18I'm totally innocent.
12:19Well, that doesn't even sound right, does it?
12:22During this brutal beating, the Joker keeps insisting that he's innocent.
12:26But Batman ignores his enemy's pleas and keeps inflicting pain.
12:29Bruce's lack of calm and words make him feel like a wild animal.
12:34Although his beastly scene could have ended with Joker's death,
12:38Jim Gordon pulls Bruce back from the brink.
12:41We've seen Batman beat the clown silly in movies like Batman Beyond Return of the Joker.
12:45If you don't like the movie, I've got slides.
12:55However, his harsh actions towards the Joker and Batman Hush felt a lot more brutal.
13:01Number 17.
13:03Recapturing His Rogue's Gallery
13:05The Batman
13:06You see, there's this nasty little rumor we'd all like to stomp out.
13:13You have to save me.
13:15I know.
13:16Thanks to the actions of a vigilante named Rumor,
13:19Batman and Robin are forced to fight a bunch of their Rogue's Gallery at once.
13:24Fortunately, the heroes were up for the challenge.
13:27Batman knocks fierce opponents like Black Mask and Killer Croc aside with just a few blows.
13:32He also manages to capture Riddler and Freeze with strength and strategy.
13:37While Batman needs an assist from Robin to nab the remaining rogues,
13:40the Dark Knight gets a lot done solo.
13:43The fact that he bested some of Gotham's most dangerous criminals without breaking a sweat
13:47proved he's leagues above them.
13:49Batman never has to get ready to stop these rogues.
13:53He's always ready.
13:54Yeah.
13:56Number 16.
13:58Dealing out a dose of vengeance.
14:00The Batman
14:01Almost every criminal who gets on the bad side of Robert Pattinson's Batman
14:13finds themselves at the mercy of the hero's relentless blows.
14:18While most of the Gotham gang he fights and Penguin's henchmen get knocked around,
14:22one thug gets an especially severe punishment.
14:25After defeating most of Riddler's goons, Batman is shot at close range and seems done for the day.
14:32But the side of Catwoman in peril pushes him to inject himself with a vial.
14:36In an instant, Batman's Beast Mode activates and he unleashes all his fury on the last goon.
14:43He's so amped up that he nearly decks Jim Gordon.
14:46While fans debated what was in the vial,
14:48it undoubtedly gave this Batman enough energy to utterly wreck his enemies.
14:53His own voice.
14:59Number 15.
15:01Avenging his parents.
15:03Batman, the Brave and the Bold.
15:05At last I have a name to go with that face.
15:09So again I ask,
15:10what will you do with this knowledge?
15:14This ends before dawn.
15:16Although Joe Chill initially got away with shooting Bruce Wayne's parents,
15:21both karma and the Dark Knight caught up with him. While the gunman was selling weapons to
15:26supervillains, Batman arrives and takes out every single rogue in the room to get to his target.
15:32Batman followed up that impressive feat by absolutely beating Joe Chill senseless.
15:51Batman moves so fast that Chill doesn't have time to land a single hit, and after the hero shows the
15:58gunman mercy, the Dark Knight gets out his remaining rage by beating up multiple supervillains
16:03again. Batman's thirst for vengeance clearly wasn't quenched after he avenged his parents.
16:09Number 14. Fighting the Foot Ninja Clan Solo. Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
16:16Shall I tell them, no thank you? Mr. Wayne would prefer to let these monstrous ninjas attack so
16:21that he might punch them whilst wearing a bat costume. You'll figure something out.
16:25Batman's first fight in this fun team-up film is arguably his most impressive. When he discovers
16:31that members of the Foot Ninja Clan are trying to steal from his company, he decides to take
16:35them on without backup. The boss gave him the night off. Me? I always work late.
16:44Before we can blink, Batman's already left a dozen ninjas unconscious at his feet, but
16:51those foot soldiers are just a warm-up for his tense clash with their leader, Shredder.
16:55The two extremely skilled fighters trade brutal blows, neither giving an inch. Shredder ultimately
17:01has to use a special technique to take Batman out of the fight and escape. Although Batman doesn't
17:06walk away from this melee victorious, he still put up a heck of a fight.
17:13Number 13. Slaughtering a SWAT Team Titans. While Dick Grayson is stuck in a twisted fantasy,
17:22he learns that he's trapped inside with a Batman that's willing to kill his enemies. The first
17:27Robin eventually helps Starfire, and a SWAT team capture the crooked Dark Knight at Wayne
17:32Manor. Unfortunately, the very bad Batman refused to be taken alive. The Dark Knight murders every
17:46member of the SWAT team in just a few minutes of screen time. And when the powerful Starfire shows
17:51up to help, Batman freezes her to death with a cold gun. The Dark Knight only stops slaughtering
17:57people when they blow up his manor and send rubble raining down on him. Dick's nightmare
18:02sequence gave us a glimpse of how many people could die if Batman ever broke down.
18:10Number 12. Crushing the Court of Owls. Batman vs. Robin. What the hell are these things? I'm not
18:20sure if they're actually alive, but I've seen firsthand that they can be destroyed. A once loyal
18:25Court of Owls warrior named Talon thought he had an advantage when he sent an undead horde of his
18:31predecessors after Batman. However, the villain didn't realize that Batman could really cut loose
18:38against zombies. Batman breaks limbs, beats down foes, and even blows enemies up. When
18:43his strength alone isn't enough to finish the enemy, he hops into a big robot and slays
18:48them more efficiently. And Batman still left enough gas in the tank to clip the living talon's
18:54wings. At the Dark Knight's always this savage when fighting zombies, we hope he gets to combat
19:05the Walking Dead more often.
19:08Number 11. Putting Down Parademons. Zack Snyder's Justice League. Shortly after the Dark Knight
19:14single-handedly broke an alien force field, he volunteered to fight an army of parademons
19:19solo. While the other Justice League members step in to lend assistance, Batman still takes out an
19:33impressive number of aliens on his own. He gunned down tons of enemies with his Batmobile's artillery.
19:39After Batman's vehicle was pushed to its limit, he dodged lasers, threw gadgets, and exploded enemies
19:45until he got his hands on extraterrestrial weapons. While the Dark Knight wasn't as physically powerful
19:51as his superhuman allies, he proved why he deserved to stand among them. Batman never let his human
19:56limits keep him away from a fight.
20:06Number 10. Defeating His Evil Doppelganger.
20:10Justice League Crisis on Two Earths.
20:21In Justice League Crisis on Two Earths, the heroes are forced to fight their evil doppelgangers.
20:26Batman's sinister counterpart is Owlman, a villain who aims to destroy the entire multiverse with
20:32the bomb, and so the fate of everyone in existence comes down to this epic fight. Batman has to beat
20:38a villain who has all the gadgets, intelligence, and martial arts skills of Batman, and he also has to
20:45do it with a recently broken rib. Regardless, he manages to turn the fight around at the last second.
20:51He then sends Owlman and the bomb to an unpopulated Earth with an awesome one-liner.
21:05While Batman's doppelganger was a tough opponent, our hero proved that no evil equivalent can top the
21:11original Dark Knight.
21:17Number 9. Mixing It Up With The Mutant Leader.
21:21Batman The Dark Knight Returns Part 1.
21:25Admittedly, a middle-aged Batman nearly died when he first tangled with the monstrous mutant leader.
21:30But the fact didn't stop the hero from breaking his hulking opponent out of prison to get a rematch.
21:36During their second encounter, Batman evens the playing field by taking the fight to a mud pit.
21:48By slowing down the mutant leader, the aging Dark Knight is able to focus on slowly and deliberately
21:54inflicting pain. He gains ground with each punch and precision strike. Top it all off, Batman lets the
22:01mutant leader know who will be victorious with a badass boast. By winning a lopsided rematch,
22:12the Dark Knight earned the respect of bystanders who forgot he was a beast.
22:17Number 8. Keaton Bat Beatdown The Flash.
22:21In an alternate universe, Michael Keaton's Batman is long since retired as the Bat. He reluctantly
22:27dons the cowl again to help the two Flashes find Superman at a Russian prison.
22:32This might hurt.
22:34The two Berries are cornered by Russian soldiers, and Batman does what he does best. He swoops in
22:41and makes short work of the guards, knocking several out with his Batarangs, deflecting their
22:45bullets with his cape, and rendering most of them unconscious with his hands and feet. Even after
22:51three decades, Keaton's Batman is a beast on the battlefield, and not even highly trained military
22:57soldiers stand a chance when he enters the scene.
23:00Let's go.
23:02Number 7. Besting Bane. The Dark Knight Rises.
23:06So you came back to die with your city?
23:10No. I came back to stop you.
23:14The first time Batman fought Bane, the muscle-bound villain broke the hero's back. But after some
23:19unconventional rehabilitation, he's ready for a rematch. Bane once again proves to be a fearsome and
23:25relentless fighter, but this time Batman is determined and strong enough to take every hard
23:29hit and return the favor. By finding and targeting Bane's one weak spot, the hero is finally able to
23:35overcome the powerful villain. And because this is Batman we're talking about, he can't resist
23:40cementing his tremendous victory with an iconic line. This wind proved that while you can break
23:51Batman's body, there's no breaking his mind or spirit.
23:54I broke you. How have you come back?
23:59You think you're the only one who could learn the strength to escape?
24:03Because after all, he's Batman.
24:056. Attacking Amanda Waller's Black Ops Team. Assault on Arkham.
24:15Amanda Waller thought sending a Black Ops team would be enough to take the Riddler down
24:19permanently. But her plans are quickly ruined when Batman shows up to capture the villain alive.
24:25The caped crusader begins by taking out the lights to disorient his opponents,
24:29then proceeds to take them down. Batman moves with insane speed, power, and precision. Although the
24:39heavily armed team outnumbers him 10 to 1, they barely manage to touch him. Batman makes the trained
24:45professionals look like kids playing dress-up. If Amanda Waller had any doubts that the Dark Knight
24:50was a threat before, his brutal Black Ops takedown convinced her that he's a force to be reckoned
24:55with. He later solidified he was a threat by tearing apart her very own suicide squad.
25:075. Saving a Cardinal from the Sewers. Batman, Gotham Knight.
25:12When a Cardinal is abducted by Scarecrow's men and taken into the sewers, Batman follows them
25:22into Gotham's underbelly. Unfortunately, the hero is bitten by Killer Croc and infected with the fear
25:27toxin before he can do much rescuing. These setbacks don't stop Batman from completing his mission,
25:37however. Despite the pain and hallucinations, the Dark Knight still manages to take on a dozen of
25:42Scarecrow's crazed followers. He knocks out enemies with a single blow, dodges weapons, and even slices
25:54a metal pipe in half. Batman doesn't take a break until the Cardinal is safe on the surface with Jim
26:00Gordon. Seeing the Dark Knight fight massive amounts of pain and villains at the same time
26:04was simply incredible. 4. Chasing the Joker.
26:09The Dark Knight. When Joker demands that Batman unmask himself,
26:13Harvey Dent claims that he is the hero and is attacked by Joker.
26:17Batman uses his tank-like Batmobile to help keep his ally safe,
26:21even when Joker damages his ride with an RPG missile. The Dark Knight refuses to give up.
26:37He jumps on his Batpod and rides like a, well, bat out of hell.
26:40As soon as Batman spots Joker's truck, he uses some wires and clever thinking to flip it over in an
26:51epic crash. Although Gordon is the one who ultimately arrests the Joker, the Commissioner
26:56wouldn't have had the chance if it wasn't for Batman. This is Batman at his most unflinchingly
27:01determined. 3. Escaping the SWAT Team.
27:13Batman Year One.
27:14Brendan, keep your men under control. No one fires unless I say.
27:19Not this time, Gordon. The Commissioner wants a corpse. He's gonna get one.
27:23Not every Commissioner loves having a masked vigilante in Gotham. Commissioner Loeb hated the
27:29concept so much that he dropped a bomb on a building where Batman was recovering from a
27:33gunshot wound. When a SWAT team arrived to finish the job, the Dark Knight had no choice but to fight
27:38them. Despite his injuries and lack of a utility belt, Batman's able to hold his own against law
27:53enforcement. He knocks enemies unconscious, dodges bullets, and even manages to save a cat's life.
27:58And just when the SWAT team has him cornered, he summons a swarm of bats to make a stylish getaway.
28:04Batman's amazing escape earned him a lot of fans in Gotham.
28:102. Wrecking the Warehouse Goons.
28:14Batman Vs. Superman. Dawn of Justice.
28:17My mother needs me. Wait. I miss your promise. Martha won't die tonight.
28:24Batman Vs. Superman.
28:25Most people went into Batman Vs. Superman thinking that the best action sequence would be the fight
28:30between the titular heroes. But the standout scene in the movie took place in a warehouse.
28:35In order to save Martha Kent, Batman has to fight his way through a bunch of thugs.
28:40After disarming most of his opponents, Batman takes each criminal down in a variety of violent ways,
28:45making sure they go down and stay down. He ends his rampage by bursting through a wall and
28:51triggering an explosion that KO's the remaining goons.
