00:00The movie begins with our main character, a young boy named Jamie. In an attempt to help an older

00:04worker, Louis accidentally puts his hand inside a machine and loses a finger. Jamie, panicking,

00:10quickly contacts the factory owner, Jill, and gets ready to take Louis to the hospital.

00:15On their way, Jamie also calls Louis' father, Vieira, and informs him about the accident.

00:20Vieira joins them promptly, and Jill advises him not to mention the bakery. Instead,

00:25Jill suggests Vieira lie to the doctors, saying Louis got injured playing with a knife at home,

00:30so Louis can receive compensation. Despite his hesitation, Vieira agrees out of desperation

00:36and heads into the hospital. After Vieira leaves, Jill informs Jamie that he can no longer employ him

00:41and asks him to find a new job. Jill gives Jamie some money, which is much less than an average

00:46salary, and drops him off. Jamie does not complain and walks away. Later, Jamie encounters a young

00:52woman named Philo on his way home, and they start a conversation. When she asks why he is out alone

00:57at night, Jamie explains that he is coming back from work. Philo is surprised to learn that Jamie,

01:03despite being so young, works at a factory. She offers him a joint, which he politely declines,

01:08explaining that he is searching for a job. Seeing his desperation, Philo gives him a business card of

01:14a wealthy man and suggests he work as a golf caddy. Jamie returns home afterward and pretends to have

01:20been sleeping in his room. Jamie hides his money inside a toy car, suggesting he's saving to buy

01:25a motorbike for his father. Meanwhile, Jamie's mother, Marta, got engaged and now lives with her

01:30Brazilian boyfriend, Antonio. After returning home, Jamie invites her to breakfast, hiding the fact

01:36that he just returned from work since children under 18 aren't allowed to work. During breakfast,

01:41Jamie asks Marta if she would reunite with his father once he finds a job. She refuses, stating she's

02:42The next day, after Marta drops Jamie at school, he heads straight to the address Philo had given

02:48him. There, he meets a wealthy man named Garces, who talks to him and prevents him from being chased

02:53away by a waiter. As Jamie tries to get on with his work, Ulysses follows him everywhere, asking

02:58unnecessary questions. Frustrated, Jamie yells at him and sends him away. The next day at school,

03:04Jamie sees Ulysses talking to the child labor inspector, Kaluna. Fearing that Ulysses has ratted him

03:10out. Jamie tries to flee, but Kaluna spots him and eventually catches him. Kaluna asks Jamie if he is

03:16working, but Jamie denies it, insisting he always goes to school. Kaluna explains he is trying to stop

03:21child labor and prevent kids from being exploited. Jamie continues to deny the accusations, even when

03:27Kaluna threatens to inform his parents. Jamie responds that his mother knows nothing about his work, making

03:33Kaluna realize Jamie is working secretly at night. He gives Jamie a day to confess. In the next scene,

03:39Jamie goes to Ulysses' home and beats him up for allegedly informing the inspector. Then he visits

03:44his mother at her workplace and sees her with her boss, which devastates Jamie since he's working hard

03:50to reunite his parents, only to see his mother flirting with another man. That night, Jamie sneaks

03:55out to work again. While helping a delivery man, he reaches a factory where all the machines are being

04:00sold because the factory is going bankrupt. Jamie learns that Garces is buying the machines. After

04:06completing the deal, Garces recognizes Jamie, pats him on the head, and leaves. In the morning,

04:23home, leaving her alone. Jamie tries to convince her that Abel would never leave her for another woman

04:34falls for the money, asking Jamie to wake his sisters. When she is getting relationship with

04:39Antonio, she notices an old man staring at them and learns that Antonio had made an agreement with

04:44him for her to work at his shop. Enraged, she yells at Antonio to leave the house. Jamie then goes to

04:50his father and urges him to approach Marta, revealing she broke up with Antonio. Abel refuses,

04:56believing Marta despises him. Later, Jamie returns home to find Antonio holding the money Jamie had been

05:01saving inside a toy car. Enraged, Jamie confronts Antonio and demands his money back. Unfortunately,

05:08Antonio easily overpowers him and sends him away, threatening to reveal Jamie's secret to Marta.

05:13Desperate, Jamie goes to Marta's workplace for help, but is dismayed to see her leaving with her boss.

05:19When Marta returns home, Jamie tells her about Antonio taking his money. She doesn't want to hear

05:24anything about Antonio and questions Jamie about the money. When Jamie doesn't answer,

05:29she starts beating him. Enraged, Jamie announces that he will get his revenge on Antonio and walks

05:35out of the house to live with Abel. He frequently tells Abel that Marta still loves him and wants to

05:40live together again. Spending time with his father makes Jamie feel better, and despite Ulysses informing

05:45him that Marta came to school looking for him, he refuses to return to her. A few days later,

05:51while Jamie and Abel are walking around, Marta arrives and accuses Abel of making Jamie work illegally.

05:56Despite Abel's attempts to defend himself, Marta humiliates him in front of a crowd.

06:01Later that night, Jamie returns home to find that Abel has taken his own life. Unable to handle the

06:06humiliation, Jamie is heartbroken and weeps profusely. His dream of reuniting his parents

06:11shattered. After Abel's death, Jamie starts living alone and spends most of his time with Ulysses.

06:17When Jamie visits Marta, he learns that she is now living with her boss and has taken her daughters

06:22with her. Jamie and Ulysses start working at a construction site, but their secret is discovered

06:28by Kaluna, who takes Jamie to his shop and explains that the owners exploit child labor to pay lower

06:34wages. Kaluna suggests that Jamie might be responsible for his father's joblessness and

06:39subsequent death, upsetting Jamie. The next day, Ulysses falls from a height at the construction site

06:45and is severely injured. Despite being taken to the hospital, Ulysses falls into a coma.

06:50Devastated, Jamie stops working at the construction site and asks Garces for a job. Garces offers Jamie

06:57the position of Saul, an old worker recently fired due to his age. When Saul explains his desperate need

07:02for a job, Jamie feels sad and lets Saul do his work, realizing Garces had replaced Saul due to age

07:08discrimination. Jamie reflects on Kaluna's earlier words. Jamie visits Ulysses in the hospital,

07:14only to find that he has passed away. Heartbroken, Jamie takes Ulysses' shoes and rushes to find his

07:20mother. Learning from a colleague that Marta is in a clinic for an abortion after her boss refused to

07:25marry her, Jamie hurries to the clinic. He finds Marta lying on a bed, and she becomes emotional

07:30and hugs him tightly. Jamie assures her that he will work hard to look after her and his sisters.

07:36Marta, feeling sad for Jamie's hard life, promises they will stay together and that she will find a job

07:41once she recovers. In the final scene, Marta has fully recovered and works as a cashier at a nearby shop.

07:48Jamie, now working for Garces, handles the business like a mature man.
