00:00Satsang with Mooji
00:30Welcome to our highly anticipated villa project in the Gulf. We've worked with this very special project for just over a year. My team and I were brought on to design all of the interiors, select the finishes, redesign key elements of the interior architecture and lighting. It's been a huge amount to achieve in such a short period of time and I'm so proud of the results.
01:00Before we start the tour, I would just like to say a heartfelt thank you to my clients for allowing us to share their home with you. They've brought us into their lives, trusted us with the design of their home and allowed us to do some of our best work. I can't wait to share it with you.
01:51Coming off in this cardigan, which I think is such a versatile piece. I'll just show you it up close. It's got some beautiful details. Look at the buttons. They're so pretty. Gwellia always go to town with the details on their buttons and it's something that I really appreciate.
02:04I love the texture of the fabric as well. How it's got this subtle pattern throughout just really elevates the piece. And what I love about this cardigan is it's kind of like a hybrid between a cardigan and a blazer.
02:14So I feel like this is a look that I would wear meeting clients, doing presentations, but it's so much more comfortable than a blazer. You know, you can really move around in it. If I'm presenting, I don't have to worry about bulky fabric.
02:26So I think it's a really versatile piece and super comfortable. And this is look number one. I've combined it with jeans. So I think this is a slightly more casual look, but this is the type of cardigan that would work really well with a little black dress.
02:39If you're going out for a dinner, it's such a great piece. I love that. So I will share in the description box and also our discount code, which is SP25, which will get you an additional 25% off everything on their website. All of that will be in the description box below.
02:54So I think every wardrobe needs a trench coat. It's just one of those classic pieces that you're going to wear, especially in this transitional weather where we're going from winter, hopefully to slightly warmer weather in the spring.
03:05What I love about the Goelia trench is that they've done it in this really soft fabric that doesn't feel too hard. Like a lot of trench coats, they almost feel like they sort of crunch around and they don't sit nicely.
03:17This one drapes really nicely. And I particularly like how it looks when it's tied up with the belt.
03:24All of the details on the fabric are really elevated. All the stitching is really nice. And I love the buttons. Let me just show you what that button looks like up close.
03:34I'm not a massive one for logos and names over my clothing, but I do love how they have their branding really subtle. It looks very sophisticated and timeless.
03:43And it's just the perfect color of camel as well. And the combination of the black with that camel tone is looks really, really nice throughout the year.
03:52So this is another thing that I think I'm going to wear a lot.
03:54The next piece that I've chosen from Goelia's collection is this striped cardigan. You're probably thinking yet another cardigan in black and ivory, but I really think when you find your look, you can never have enough pieces.
04:07And I love a striped cardigan. What I love about this one and what makes it different is the fluffy texture. Can you see that? I don't know if the camera's picking that up, but I love how fluffy it is.
04:18It feels really soft on your skin. And I think it just gives it a completely different look. Slightly more casual, I would say, than the previous cardigan, but you could still dress this one up as well.
04:30So I absolutely love that. The next piece that I chose in their collection is this black dress. What I like about this is the fact that it's two different fabrics.
04:39So it's got a knitted top. I'll just show you that up close. So this part's knitted and then the skirt is cotton and it's really, really comfortable, but I love the fact that it looks like a two piece, but it's all in one so you don't have to think about what skirt and top to combine.
04:55And I'm going to dress it with this belt from Celine.
05:01And because it is a dress, you don't have to worry about gaps between the skirt and the top.
05:07I love how that combines. It kind of cinches in the waist a little bit.
05:10And then just to add a little bit more gold, I'm going to combine it with my Louisville bag.
05:14This is the kind of look that I would wear on a date night or out for lunch meeting a client.
05:19And then because of the colder weather, I think it needs a jacket and I've got a perfect one.
05:24This jacket is also from Gwellia and it's a cropped length jacket.
05:29So I think it sits really nicely with this dress.
05:32And that is it. That's the final look.
05:34I'll just show you these details up close.
05:36It's got those same lovely woven details on the gold buttons.
05:39It's got some slight glisten that's kind of giving me Chanel vibes.
05:45I'll put all the links in the description box below.
05:47I hope you guys love these pieces as much as I do.
05:53We are starting this tour in the entrance lobby.
05:56And this space really sets the tone for the whole residence.
06:00You can see through into the atrium.
06:02But before you get there, you go over this beautiful stone floor.
06:06We changed all the finishes on the floor and we also redesigned the layout.
06:11In our studio, we love to have large format tiles.
06:14We don't want to have too many joins.
06:16So we changed the floor to a mystic white, which feels very fresh.
06:20Then we've gone for a Lipica Fiorito square in a lovely taupe colour.
06:25And then finally, around the perimeter, we have Pietra Grey, which adds some beautiful contrast.
06:30There was a lovely detail on the floor that we absolutely adored.
06:34We just changed the finishes.
06:36And then to furnish that, we went for a table that had very light legs so that you could see through it.
06:42We didn't want anything that was going to cover up all this beautiful craftsmanship.
06:46Above that, we've styled it with just a few select pieces that it kind of gives you a hint of what's to come.
06:53Above the pedestal table, we've gone for a very simple lantern design.
06:58Even in the most palatial and opulent residences, you always want to make sure that you're not going too far with the design.
07:06You need to allow the real focal points to breathe.
07:09So for these lanterns, we felt they were the perfect option.
07:12They have a British heritage bill.
07:14They feel very architectural and they not only go here, but they run around the whole perimeter of the atrium.
07:21I'm going to head through into the main atrium past these beautiful columns that have all been panelled.
07:26And when you look closely, you'll notice that all the corners have been rounded.
07:30And the reason for that is this project has been designed under the principle of feng shui,
07:36which I'll tell you more about in a minute.
07:46Right now, I'm stood in the atrium, which is right at the centre and the heart of the home.
07:51The purpose of this space is to allow natural light to flood into the centre of the house.
07:56And it's also a great space for entertaining and for the family to gather in the evening before dinner.
08:02It really feels like you're in an indoor courtyard.
08:04You've got this beautiful chandelier above that cascades down the space.
08:08And everything's very much inspired by nature to enhance that feeling of being outside.
08:13It's quite a nice thing to have when you're living in the Gulf.
08:16And obviously, the climate's quite unbearably hot for most of the year.
08:20That you can come in here and you almost get that feeling of being outside,
08:23having all the natural light and all the botanical references in the interiors.
08:27The overarching brief the client gave to us when we first met was that they really wanted to create
08:37an English home in the Gulf. And that's really informed all of our design decisions throughout
08:41this property. The interiors have also been designed under the principle of feng shui.
08:47The clients engage the services of a feng shui expert. And when we first took on this project,
08:52we were handed a huge document that guided the design decisions for each room in this property,
08:58down to the colour palettes, the shapes of the materials, the shapes of the furniture,
09:03everything you could possibly think of. And it was a really interesting process for me and my team to
09:07learn more about this principle. I am by no means a feng shui expert, but I've really enjoyed
09:13applying the principles that we've learned on this project into all the interiors.
09:18Feng shui, for those of you who are not familiar with it, is the art of arranging buildings,
09:24objects and spaces in an environment to achieve harmony, balance and good energy. Certain examples
09:30of what we've had to do throughout this project, and you'll see more details of this in each room,
09:35is that we've had to round the corners of all the furniture. So you'll see all the tables rounded,
09:40all the upholsteries rounded, wherever possible. We have no sharp corners because in feng shui,
09:46these are called poison arrows. So the only places you'll see it is if we've had some ready-made
09:50pieces and we couldn't avoid it. And we've had to overcome that in different ways by maybe putting
09:55some metal elements or some crystals. It's been really interesting because I'm looking back
10:00on other projects that we've designed alongside this one at the same time this year. And it's kind
10:06of influenced those other projects as well. I'm much more drawn to rounded corners, rounded edges,
10:11it kind of feels softer. And I guess if you've got a young family, it's a practical thing too.
10:18One of the specific requests from the feng shui consultants was to have
10:22this huge pink onyx slab in the atrium. It's one of the first things you see as you walk through the
10:27door and it's framed through all the archways. You can see we've copied the shape of the archways
10:33and we've combined it with this mystic white border that frames it beautifully.
10:38We were able to source the exact slab for the pink onyx and I was so happy when I saw this
10:43particular specimen because if you've seen pink onyx normally it's a very sort of bubblegum pink,
10:50it's quite bright and it wasn't really the colour palette that we wanted here. We wanted it to be
10:54very soft and sophisticated. So this one's got some beautiful tones in it from the light creams to the
11:00dusty pinks and even down to the tan colours. And we've managed to draw inspiration from that
11:06into the rest of the colour scheme. The next most important part of the interiors I think that
11:13really creates this feel is the wall covering. This wraps around all of the columns in this central
11:20atrium and it is such a special piece. When I look around this space I just am astounded by the level
11:26of craftsmanship. You know if you look at this butterfly this will have 500 individual hand stitches
11:33and then you see the scale of the room. This would have taken someone two days. You can really grasp
11:38how much craftsmanship, how much work has gone into this property. When I was designing the colour
11:43scheme and all the materials for this room with my team, I really wanted to make sure that we kept
11:48the colour balanced and that we brought subtle references back to that colour scheme through to
11:53the furnishings. You don't have to do it in a very obvious way but by having cushions and the soft
11:58greens and the pinks and then lampshades on the tables in those colours it makes sure that the
12:04colour comes into the room and it all feels harmonious. For the sofas I've kept them very
12:09neutral so that you've got some breathing space and everything's not too overpowering in terms of colour
12:14but then I've woven more of those subtle shades of pink and green into the rug and I've brought colour
12:20onto this side of the room by upholstering these gorgeous armchairs in a soft celadon green
12:25so there's colour spread equally around the whole room. In terms of the shapes of the furniture I
12:31really wanted to contrast the more classical architecture with more contemporary pieces.
12:36I really love that mix and that layering of different styles and make sure that doesn't
12:40feel too traditional but it's still timeless and feels very livable.
12:44The chandelier is another key feature in the atrium. The scale of it at over 6.5 metres means that it has
12:58huge impact but because all of the glass pieces, all 285 of them, are quite small it feels incredibly
13:06light in the space. It took a team from Paris three days to hang each of the individual pieces,
13:12they had to be up on a scaffolding tower but when you see the end result it was all worth it.
13:20When we first got involved with the project over a year ago the first thing I did with my team was
13:25review all the existing interior architecture that had already been designed to work out what we need
13:30to redesign to give our client that English feel that they really wanted. One area that we knew we'd have
13:36to work on was this balustrade. Previously it was a much chunkier marble column. It felt too heavy for
13:44the space in my opinion and also lacked that English heritage feel that the client wanted so we replaced
13:50it with this much slimmer profile bronze balustrade which feels at once contemporary, light and very English.
13:57The furniture layout in the atrium was informed by several considerations. In the middle we have this
14:07huge pedestal table that's directly under the chandelier. The reason for that is in feng shui you
14:13can't have seating under a chandelier so to protect from that energy we decided to put a pedestal table.
14:19It creates a nice focal point in the middle of the room and also makes sure that no one will ever sit
14:24under the chandelier. Around the perimeter of the room we've done several groupings of different
14:30types of furniture so we have two sofas over here and a grouping of armchairs here and the reason for
14:37that is we want to allow for entertainment and socializing in different sizes of groups so if the
14:44family are just meeting two people they can sit with two armchairs but if they're having a much larger
14:50gathering the whole room works for bigger groups. There are two main family entrances to the property
14:59we have the huge grand entrance that we've already seen and here behind me we have the daily entrance
15:05in this part of the hall we also have the beautiful curved staircase and you can see where we've brought
15:10the same balustrade design that we've created for the top of the atrium onto the staircase we've softened
15:17that with a beautiful runner I always love to mix some high and some more sort of earthy elements into
15:24our designs so this we've gone for a very paired back design it's just a beautiful herringbone and
15:28it's got soft shades of celadon green and ivory so it complements the rest of the colour scheme.
15:34To soften this area further we've designed a little seating area and this is also a perfect space for any
15:41guests of the family to wait to the left of me I have the salon so any glam squad that's coming can sit
15:47here and wait for members of the family I really love how soft this area feels we've got the same
15:53colour scheme from the atrium and a really contemporary sofa which I then combined with a much more
15:59classical armchair my favourite bit of this is the little pineapple motif that we have carved into the
16:06wooden frame and pineapples are a symbol of hospitality and so I thought it was the perfect symbol to have in
16:13this area to welcome their gas. For this central panel next to the staircase we really knew that we
16:22wanted to create a focal point we couldn't use wallpaper because we've already used it elsewhere so
16:27it wouldn't have the same impact here we looked at several different options including bronze coloured
16:33leaves different motifs but in the end we settled on these really delicate little flowers
16:39this finish is called bass relief it was all handmade in the UK by Stuart Fox and then he brought it out
16:46here we had a huge scaffolding tower and each flower was hand applied and then hand finished and we
16:52painted it in the same colour as the surrounding panelling so it's just very tonal and blends in
16:57it's all about that texture and then at night time when the lights are on it picks out all the different
17:03depths of these beautiful carvings to contrast against the more contemporary furnishings like
17:13the sofa and the table under the staircase here I've really wanted to introduce some more classical
17:18elements I love this ornate mirror that we sourced in Italy it has such a heritage classical feel and
17:25it's all about creating that layering of different styles underneath we designed this custom sideboard
17:31it's got some really beautiful finishes I love the beautiful wood veneer the bronze and the mother
17:37of pearl doors but it also has a practical application we designed this specifically to house all the
17:43shoes and for guests when they come in so they can take their shoes off and put them on these angled shelves
17:52we've dressed the sideboard with two table lamps they create a really lovely warm glow as you walk in
17:57feel very inviting and I chose these ones because they have that same chiseled beautiful texture that
18:03echoes the design elements from the table on the vase on the other side of the room these ones look
18:07like the christian dual perfume bottle and our client particularly loved them and then we've combined
18:13them with a tonal silk shade that echoes the colour of the silk in the panelling
18:21the last thing that I want to talk about in this space is the walkway that runs around the whole
18:25perimeter of the atrium all of the main entertaining rooms are off of this walkway so we have the
18:32formal modulus the dining room the kitchen the family room and it's a great way of ensuring that even
18:38though this is a very vast property it still feels homely
18:55this is the formal dining room in the house the family have several areas where they can dine but
19:01this is the most opulent of all the dining spaces and the intention with this room is that it's where
19:06they can entertain their friends and family on a larger scale so first of all you can see we have
19:10this absolutely enormous dining table it can seat 10 people and we've really prioritised comfort by
19:16making sure that all the chairs are oversized and have arms each room you'll see as this tour progresses
19:22has its own identity and its own colour scheme and that was very much led by the feng shui expats
19:28in here the design direction had to incorporate some reds and some beiges and also fire elements so we've
19:35managed to do that through the wall covering we have the beautiful from intel magnolia canopy
19:41design this is from my collection with them i absolutely love this if you're a channel regular
19:45you might recognise that i've got it in my bedroom and then we've also incorporated more of those
19:49beautiful burgundies and aubergines through into the fireplace this is a color cutter viola fireplace that
19:56we've imported from the uk and it's quite unusual to have a fireplace in the gulf obviously we're not
20:02lacking for heat but with the feng shui experts they wanted to have an element of fire and so
20:07we've used a planica fireplace we've used this in a few of our projects before and it gives a really
20:12good visual effect of flames and then we've combined it with this lovely reeded metal insert which
20:19feels very contemporary some of the more local cultural references have come in in terms of the space planning
20:28and how we've allowed the clients to use this space in this region they love to do buffet style dining so
20:34if you've seen our aman tour you'll see that we did a really oversized freestanding buffet sideboard
20:40here we've gone for a built-in design it's got lovely timber fronted doors and then a marble top
20:46above that another requirement of the feng shui expert and this was a bit of a challenge was that we had
20:52to have clear mirror clear mirror in a dining room for me isn't a particularly desirable material to
20:58have because i don't think anyone wants to see themselves whilst they're eating so how we overcame
21:03that slight challenge was we've done the mirror we've done a little frame detail around the outside
21:08just to break it up a bit and add some interest but to stop it feeling too cold and too sparse we've
21:14layered that up with a freestanding decorative mirror this one we've sourced from europe and italy
21:20and it's got a patina on the mirror this is an antique mirror and the antique frame picks up the
21:26painting opposite in this dining room we've opted to use a lot of open shelving and all the journey
21:33redesign not only have we got shelves flanking the main buffet but opposite on either side of the
21:38fireplace we have some more shelves when you have that much shelving it's really important that you're
21:43very restrained with how many items you put on each shelf otherwise it'll feel very cluttered and with
21:48the colour schemes of the items themselves you've got to pick out colours that work with the rest of
21:52the room so you can see we've picked out lots of burgundies lots of reds and lots of neutrals too
21:59when you're picking the shape of your dining table it's really important you look at the layout and the
22:03shape of your room they need to work together where this is a long rectangular room it made sense that
22:08we went for a rectangular or an oblong shape we settled on this kind of oval with squared off ends
22:15because we wanted to make it feel organic and soft and sociable the curves mean that the person who
22:20sits here can still see the person at the end of the row but we squared off the ends because when
22:26you're using an oval table it becomes really difficult to dress the end place setting everything gets a
22:31little bit squished then in terms of the chandelier i always like to mirror the shape of the chandelier to
22:36the table and it's nice that all those shapes correlate so it feels easy on the eye
22:40with the window treatments in the dining room and indeed the whole of the house we've doubled up on
22:48them because we wanted to make sure we have privacy at all times even during the day and also with all
22:54the natural sunlight coming inside we wanted to protect all the finishes from the uv rays
23:16this beautiful room that we're now sitting in is called the formal modulus in this home the family
23:21have two modulus one external modulus which is more for the men and this one i would say is a more
23:27female space it's all about family gatherings and we wanted to be able to fit as many people in
23:33here comfortably seated so you can see we've done seating all around the perimeter of the room
23:38feng shui requirements for this room were to have lots of heavy metal elements so we need lots
23:43of bronze and gold and we've introduced that in several different ways starting with the chandelier
23:48this is really the focal point of the room as you come in it's incredibly oversized but we've kept
23:53the design very simple so it's not overpowering it's got a large bronze ring and then on that we've
23:59got some crystals placed around the perimeter i don't normally mix up metal types it's a bit of a
24:05pet hate of mine if you've got too many different types of metals but there's certain types that you
24:09can mix and this room really lent itself to having a couple of types of metals if there was too much
24:14bronze it would have felt a little bit cold and too much gold it would have felt a little bit
24:19overbearing so i'm going to take you over to the joinery wall now where we've got another beautiful
24:24metal detail you can see on each shelf we've got a couple of dividers these were specially made for
24:29the project in london when you look closely you can see they've got like almost a tree trunk
24:34bark like texture they're absolutely sunning and could be a piece of art in themselves
24:39we've also introduced some more metal materials into the ffne the furniture selection
24:49and specifically the tables these tables i really wanted to talk to you about because i'm very excited
24:54to share with you that they are part of an upcoming furniture collaboration for me and over the sofa
25:00table is such a key piece of furniture it's really practical because you can just easily put your drink
25:05there so watch this space and i'll be sure to let you know as soon as this collection has launched
25:12for the color scheme the feng shui experts asked for a color palette of ivory gold gray and silver
25:18which for me is such a beautiful color palette and we've managed to introduce all of those colors
25:22through onto the cushions as well as some key pieces of upholstery and it was a really beautiful
25:28opportunity to introduce some special fabrics for the walls we've done a combination of panelling which
25:34for me is such a timeless design especially when it's done well if you're scared about how to do
25:39panelling make sure you watch my previous video on design mistakes to avoid where i talk about how
25:44to line up the panels in your room to make it look classical our interiors are described as classic
25:50contemporary and what that means is that we always combine elements of both styles so layered on top of
25:56the very classical panelling we've got this modern painting and i really like the combination of the
26:01two this one's all about the texture and it picks out some of the other colors that you see in the room
26:07i feel like i'm always hammering on about balance i'm not sure if it's because i'm a libra but balance
26:12for me is really important in all my surroundings and interiors that i design and there's lots of
26:16different ways you need to balance a room but another way to me that's very important to balance a
26:21room is to make sure that you have a mixture of different fabrics different finishes some things
26:26that are very luxurious some things are a bit more paired back so in this little corner you can see
26:30we've got this really luxurious velvet and this gold fabric which is a real statement piece but
26:36when it came to the curtains behind it if i'd gone for a silk or a velvet here it would have been too
26:41much so instead i've gone for this fabric which is a linen and you can see it's got a very subtle
26:46geometric pattern and i have to be honest when my client first saw this she really had to take a
26:51leap of faith to go with it because it doesn't look amazing as a small sample but when you see it hung
26:57and made into a curtain it drapes so nicely you can see all the pleats hang perfectly
27:02and it's just a really nice subtle more paired back finish in this room this room's all about
27:08quiet luxury it's not in your face trying to look too opulent
27:14symmetry is something that's particularly important to our client and it's something that we also really
27:18love to use in our projects this wall behind me is completely symmetrical when you pan across it
27:24and the reason why we decided to go symmetrical on this particular elevation is because this is the
27:29wall you see as you walk into the room and by having it symmetrical it feels particularly
27:35impactful and dramatic so it creates that really amazing first impression it's also a great way of
27:40ensuring that the room feels balanced there's a lot going on in this elevation with all the mirror
27:44the joinery the furniture but because it's symmetrical it doesn't feel too much
27:54for the coffee table i wanted to go for a contrasting material i don't want to use any
27:58more metal or stone i wanted something that felt quite warm i've spoken about this before but for coffee
28:02tables i like items and materials that feel soft and don't make a lot of noise when you put down a cup
28:08of coffee for example this gray oak veneer was the perfect material choice because it's contrasting
28:14against the rug so it really stands out but it also complements the bronze chandelier above
28:20and then i've combined that with four ottomans we've got two on each side and these are really handy
28:26because you can use them for lots of different purposes you can pull them out slightly if you're
28:30bringing in trays of treats and cakes or if you want to pull them all the way to the sofa you can use
28:35them to put your feet up or even use them as additional seating we've upholstered these in an
28:40andrew martin linen it's from the same collection as our curtains and i'll link them in the
28:45description box again it's not an obvious choice to have something quite as paired back as a linen
28:50when you've got such an opulent rug but it's all about balancing those materials this room has such
28:55a calming feel and i absolutely love it there's so many details that i could stay in here talking about
28:59it forever but now i'm going to move on to the formal medialist wash that is a real tongue twister if you
29:04ever try and say that yourself and it's been very much influenced by this room so you're going to
29:08see it's got lots of beautiful gold on the wall coverings so let's head there now
29:16we've now moved to the formal wash which is adjacent to the formal medialist it is probably
29:33one of the most glamorous washrooms we've ever designed we wanted to continue the colour scheme
29:39from the formal medialist where we had all the golds and creams into this room so the starting point
29:44was this beautiful chinoiserie wallpaper that's got a gold background this is from our collection
29:50with from entao and it's a really special one to me because it's the first one i ever designed with
29:54them i think it was about six years ago and i named it after my daughter ava so i absolutely love this and
30:01i feel like it's also perfect because it's between the atrium and the formal modulus so it has all the
30:06botanical references that we have in the atrium we've combined the wallpaper with this
30:11color cutter oro marble and i love the combination of gray white and gold to me that's such a timeless
30:17color palette and then over this side of the room we've put these two benches and these are actually
30:22a last minute addition but the room is so big it really felt like it needed some seating and we wanted
30:27to create a moment where you could sit down and relax after you've washed your hands these were found
30:34by my client actually and when she sent them to me on whatsapp i knew they were perfect for the space
30:38and then we stole a couple of cushions we wouldn't we are not lacking for cushions in this house
30:43and these ones are from the formal modulus next door and i think they just finish it off perfectly
30:49and bring some of that gold color down onto the benches
30:54moving across to the vanity side of the room you can see we've brought more gold into the scheme through
31:00the taps these are by jesse and again i love that combination of antique brass with the gray and white
31:06then the accessories in here are so special and i really want to talk about how important the art
31:12of styling is in your bathroom even if your bathroom is not as luxurious as this one by adding
31:17a few well chosen accessories you can really elevate the space so here we've used this lovely
31:23mirror by r mcmartin some hand soaps from diptyque feels so luxurious some beautiful hand towels from
31:31coze this is a little box by addison russ and of course a beautiful bin is a must-have this one i
31:39love we designed this for addison russ and what i love about it is the fact that it's got a lid
31:43so you don't have to look down at your rubbish for the wall lights we went for these by porta
31:49amana and what i really love about these is you're getting a textural contrast from the highly polished
31:53marble to the matte finish of the plaster they're very discreet but they just add the perfect amount of
31:58light and when you're thinking about lighting in every room even if it is just a toilet you need
32:03to make sure the lighting is balanced so if you have the wall lights on that side it's great to do
32:08some lighting on here and where we've got this niche we've put an led strip behind each shelf so
32:13it gives a lovely soft glow
32:29we've walked across the atrium on the ground floor and we are now in the ground floor family room and
32:35at this point on the video tour you're probably asking how many living areas are there in this
32:39house well there are a lot but the reason for that is that each one has a very specific purpose
32:45this room is for very close family friends together it's in the main part of the home so it's a much
32:52more intimate space than either the external or the formal modulus it's a multi-purpose space which you
32:57might see a themes developing we tend to make all the living areas multi-purpose partly because we can
33:03because the scale of the rooms is so large but also because we like to allow for whatever guests the
33:09family are entertaining that they can do everything they would possibly want to do in that space so
33:13behind me we'll start with the dining area we've got this huge oversized ornate chandelier we really
33:19wanted to bring a more classical influence into this room throughout the house you can see there's a
33:24real blend of classic and contemporary the color scheme in this room was led by the feng shui consultants
33:31they wanted lots of yin water energy and they wanted blues blacks and whites and they wanted lots of
33:40wave motifs so we understood the brief and we delivered we obviously have lots of blues on all
33:45the upholstery like the front of the dining chairs and into the rug and the accessories and then to bring
33:52in the water element you can see if you look at the rug it looks like dappled water and it's got all
33:57the colors that we have going throughout the color scheme one of my most exciting finds when i was
34:03sourcing all the fabrics for this project was this trim when i saw that it not only fitted the color
34:09scheme requirement but also had the wave motif i knew we had to have it on the curtains in here
34:14and it looks fantastic for feng shui purposes we also needed a large expanse of mirror in this room
34:20we've used a couple of tricks to soften it so firstly i've gone for an antique mirror which is a much softer
34:27finish you don't see so much of your reflection and then i've used the same trick that i did in
34:31the dining room where i've layered it with a freestanding mirror on top and the frame kind
34:35of diffuses all the mirror and it makes it a bit more of a subtle design element moving on to the
34:42sitting area we really wanted to prioritize comfort so we've done a mixture of different seating we have
34:47these swivel chairs here again swivel chairs are one of my favorite types of seating to do because
34:53they're so flexible you can swivel towards the tv swivel towards the sofas or indeed the dining table
34:59and then over this side of the seating area we've done two sofas and these have got quite an
35:04interesting detail so they kind of taper up towards the middle we wanted to create almost like a
35:09crescendo so it's got an interesting vantage point when you walk through the door behind me
35:15and we've layered those with lots of beautiful cushions with blue velvets
35:19boucles and some prints from our andrew martin collection for the final styling and art we've
35:26used a combination of new pieces and then these ones behind me are some existing pieces that belong
35:31to the client which we're always keen to do we love to incorporate existing pieces when they work
35:36because it makes it feel like more of an instant home to them i loved how it had the blue and white
35:41colors and we also linked that back to the accessories by using a lot of blue and white chinoiserie on the
35:46shelving i'm thrilled with how this room's turned out it's light and bright but cozy at the same time
35:54and i can just envisage that in their winter they will have to throw open the doors
35:58hang out in the pool and have some lovely indoor outdoor living here but that is all for part one i
36:04hope that you've enjoyed looking around some of the spaces in this villa we've looked at the atrium
36:08the formal modulus the dining room and the family room and stay tuned for part two in part three where
36:14we'll be looking at some of the other areas in this house that i cannot wait to share with you
36:19you have to hit subscribe you do not want to miss out on these and i'll see you very soon
