00:00During a university lecture, Professor Julian talks about the Neanderthals, an extinct group
00:05of archaic humans. He explains that they were supposedly very dumb and absolutely savage,
00:11according to the studies of Darwin and Galton. Their theories could determine how civilized and
00:15intelligent someone was just by their appearance. Julian disagrees and says that modern humanity
00:21has a bit of Neanderthal in it. He also reveals that the only non-fossilized Neanderthal in the
00:26world was found by his boss and was named William in honor of the scientists who recognized Neanderthals
00:32as a separate species. He ends the lecture by pointing out that, in theory, it could be possible
00:37to create a living Neanderthal using William's DNA. Endocrinologist Barbara watches the entire lecture
00:44and that same day looks for Julian at a restaurant. She brings up the possibility of cloning William,
00:49which would be very difficult and complicated, but not impossible. They spend dinner discussing
00:55the details behind the process. And by the end of the evening, Barbara is curious to know why Julian
01:00is particularly obsessed with Neanderthals. Help me reach my goal of 10 likes and 5 comments.

01:19Julian takes Barbara to his lab and shows her two stone tools. One was made by Homo sapiens and the
01:25other by Neanderthals. There is no difference between them, which is why Julian believes that
01:30we could learn a lot about humanity by studying our closest cousin. That night, Julian and Barbara
01:35fall in love. From then on, the couple begins working on the Neanderthal cloning project, and in just
01:40two years, they publish three groundbreaking papers on the subject. They also move in together and have a
01:46wonderful romantic life. Unfortunately, many important scientists and university donors are
01:52concerned about the morality behind the project and the possible negative reaction, so they withdraw
01:57their support. However, the couple refuses to give up, and Barbara decides to carry the cloned embryo
02:02while letting everyone else think she is having a normal pregnancy. The couple then goes to Las Vegas
02:07and gets married by an Elvis impersonator. A few months later, Barbara gives birth at the hospital.
02:13The nurses share a look of disgust before handing the baby to the happy mother. The couple isn't
02:18bothered by the child's ugly appearance, and Julian even kisses the baby's forehead. Some time later,
02:24Julian stops by the university to drop off some documents explaining what he and his wife did.
02:29The higher-ups hold an emergency meeting, fearful of how this could affect the university's reputation.
02:35They don't like the project, but for now they decide to support it to gain publicity
02:39and hopefully have a chance to control it. The next morning, Julian organizes a press conference
02:44to tell the world about the Neanderthal clone, created through nuclear cell transfer. A journalist
02:49asks about the morality of this, so Julian shows them a cute clip of the baby and asks how something
02:55so beautiful can be immoral. Once the conference is over, Julian's boss reminds him that the board has
03:01the final say over everything that happens with the project. Many years later, the baby is now a young
03:07man named William. Barbara takes him to the forest, and they say goodbye before William goes to his
03:13father's house. He looks around for a while before reaching the balcony with a great view of the river.
03:18Two tourists pass by an abode, and when they see William's ugly face, they start rowing faster.
03:24William goes back inside and finds the ancient stone tool on one of the shelves. Suddenly, a noise
03:30startles him, but it's just his new tutor, Sarah. She explains that Julian is at work,
03:35and William can't help but feel uncomfortable around a stranger. That night, Julian joins them
03:41for dinner, and Sarah notices that William eats a lot. So Julian explains that William's metabolism
03:46is different and requires more calories than the average person. After dinner, Julian tells William
03:51that he's proud of him for following his dreams. The next day, Sarah helps William with his studies
03:56and tells him she's still working to finish her thesis. William is very good at math, but English is a bit
04:02hard for him because he doesn't like metaphors, which he considers lies. Meanwhile, at the university,
04:08Julian tells his class about his project. When it all started, there were protesters complaining
04:12every day because they considered cloning immoral and a sin against God. However, William grew up as
04:18a normal child under the loving care of Julian and Barbara, so the protesters stopped showing up.
04:23The news also stopped talking about him since they didn't have any interesting clickbait about wild
04:28cavemen. Theories say that Homo sapiens drove Neanderthals to extinction with superior intellect,
04:34but after years of studying his son, Julian no longer agrees with that theory. William started
04:39talking earlier than most kids and developed faster. He also showed intelligence equal to or even greater
04:46than his peers. One day, William got sick and no medicine had any effect on him, but the simple fact
04:52of being with his mother helped him get better. It turns out that his immune system is very robust
04:57and adapts quickly, which promises incredible medical applications. After finishing his class,
05:03Julian remembers the day he and Barbara broke up. William had been growing up inside a laboratory,
05:08but Barbara wanted him to be free and have a normal life. However, Julian kept seeing William as an
05:14experiment and reminded Barbara that he wasn't really her son. That comment hurt Barbara deeply,
05:20so she finally left Julian for good. She later got permission from the university board to leave with
05:25William. They moved into a new house, and William was excited to have his own room. Barbara got a job
05:30at the clinic, but she kept researching part-time, and Julian visited them frequently. The couple still
05:35worked together to find a good school for William and had to criticize the principal for saying the boy
05:40wasn't completely human. Fortunately, William had a great time at school and quickly became everyone's
05:46best friend. Julian visited as he had promised, and they would play outside, enjoying William's new
05:52freedom. In the present, William uses his brake to exercise, which shows his great strength. Sarah
05:58calls him to continue studying and reads him a quote from The Great Gatsby, asking him to offer his
06:03interpretation. This ends in an argument, because William believes that no one should be able to
06:08decide what someone else means except that person themselves. Another flashback shows William riding his
06:14bike down the road when a group of older kids saw him. They called him caveman to mock him and started
06:20chasing him. At first, it seemed like William would get away, but he accidentally crashed his bike into the
06:25bridge and had to continue on foot. When the other kids tried to grab him, William pushed two of them to the
06:31ground and hurt the hand of the third. Later at the police station, the boy's mother kept saying that
06:36William was dangerous and wanted him locked up, but the officers simply kicked everyone out because he couldn't
06:41act just based on some kids fighting. When they got home, Barbara told William to walk away whenever
06:47someone made fun of him to avoid trouble. Then William searched for his name online and found
06:51all the articles about his birth, not to mention the protests. Reading about Neanderthals showed that
06:57everyone believed they were savages. Eventually, Barbara started dating someone new and Julian stopped
07:03staying for dinner during his visits. He also stopped performing routine tests on William and forced his
07:08assistant to do it, which infuriated Barbara. Years later, when William started high school,
07:13he made good friends, although he couldn't always understand their jokes. During his senior year, William
07:19and his two friends decided to go on a trip together and shared their ideas about how to apply to college.
07:24While they were having fun, they came across two hippies who joined the kids around the fire and share their
07:30mushrooms. When they realized who William was, they called him cool and beautiful. The woman asked if he ever
07:35wanted to go back to his time and William said yes. She encouraged him to go there while her friend was vomiting
07:41from the disgusting things he ate. At school, William helped Judy his platonic love. With the upcoming
07:48play, he even agreed to be one of the actors. On the night of the show, William played Judy's love
07:53interest and received his first kiss as part of the story. However, when he tried to kiss Judy again
07:58behind the curtain, she rejected him. The play was a success, but William was heartbroken because he never
08:04meant anything to Judy. Sometime later, William's teacher called Barbara and Julian to explain that their son
08:10was intelligent, but he wasn't good with standardized tests because his way of thinking didn't match
08:15any recognizable pattern. He would need extensive tutoring to redo his college applications, and
08:21Julian was shocked when he realized Barbara had withdrawn the applications their son had already sent.
08:26Barbara explained that William got a part-time job at a hardware store to keep him busy after
08:30graduation, but Julian wanted it to be more than that. An argument followed, and the teacher had to
08:35remind them that it had to be William's decision. Meanwhile, William was saying goodbye to his friends,
08:41who would soon be leaving for college. That night, his parents explained the situation to him.
08:46Julian asked him to come live with him to receive tutoring lessons, but that would also mean
08:51experimenting with him again. Barbara was against that. However, William was desperate for a normal life,
08:56and accepted his father's offer. In the present, Julian reviews William's latest practice exam,
09:02and gets angry, because it still isn't good enough, blaming Sarah for it. She points out that William
09:07has made great progress, and William says it's not her fault, only for Julian to throw the exams in his
09:14face and leave the house. When William starts crying, Sarah swears that his scores are actually good,
09:19and takes him for a walk in the woods. She shares that her parents were also very strict with her when
09:24she was younger, and for a long time she hated them for deciding her future without asking her,
09:29but now she can't complain about the excellent education she received. In return, William admits
09:34that he loves to sing and shares the song from his school play. This ends with William and Sarah
09:38kissing and getting dirty. They return home at night, and Julian scolds them both for wasting time
09:44instead of studying. That night, William can't stop looking at the stone tool, wondering if one day
09:49he will be more than this. Some time later, Sarah takes William to a school so he can retake his exams.
09:56All the pencils he tries to use keep breaking, so he sees it as a sign and gives up, leaving the room
10:01without finishing the test. Then he goes to the store to have a drink, and two girls laugh at him,
10:06so the shopkeeper insults them for being rude. After a long walk, William goes to the university
10:12to see Godwin. The woman who found the Neanderthal remains. She takes him to her lab to see the body,
10:18which is in a special cage for preservation. William can't stop looking at the body from every angle,
10:23and even thinks the boy might be smiling. Godwin explains that they don't know how he died,
10:28because there are no wounds or signs of illness. As for the theories, she believes that homo sapiens
10:33developed the ability to create and believe in narratives, and those stories could unite groups
10:38in large numbers. That numerical superiority forced the Neanderthals to move to a less advantageous
10:45habitat, which eventually led to their extinction. When William asks about the stories, Godwin tells him
10:50that they include everything from religion to political hierarchy, but also family stories,
10:56all the things people would go to war and die for. William cannot understand how believing lies
11:01made homo sapiens intelligent, and he believes that numerical superiority is the only reason why
11:07the Neanderthals were driven to extinction. He announces that he doesn't belong here,
11:11and neither does the man in the box. Godwin tries to convince him that he has a place,
11:16but William simply walks away. Meanwhile, Sarah looks for William and can't find him anywhere,
11:21so she asks Barbara to help her. Moments later, William sneaks into Julian's lecture
11:26and interrupts it when his father keeps referring to his son's life as his work. William calls the
11:32experiment a failure, and Julian corrects him by saying that he is the one who has failed. Devastated,
11:37William runs away, and Julian goes after him to apologize, saying that William provoked him by
11:42embarrassing him in front of the class. William responds that Julian embarrassed himself, and that
11:48he is not his father, which causes Julian, angry, to slap him for it. Once again, William tries to
11:54leave, and when Julian tries to stop him, he accidentally drops the stone tool. Both men reach for
12:00it at the same time, and William suddenly punches Julian to knock him out, as if defending his belonging.
12:06As soon as he realizes what he has done, William feels awful. Soon the students gather around him,
12:11call him savage, and take pictures. William has no choice but to run away. Moments later,
12:17Barbara finds Julian unconscious, and calls Sarah to warn her that the police are looking for William.
12:22Barbara will go to the hospital with Julian, so Sarah will have to continue her search alone.
12:27Meanwhile, William hides in another university building, where he is seen by a student who calls
12:32the police. When William tries to leave, he finds a group of police officers waiting for him,
12:37with weapons drawn. Sarah also arrives and shouts his name, but an officer stops her.
12:43Remembering the bridge incident, William steps forward and is taken down in seconds,
12:47meeting his death. A few months later, Sarah visits the place where Godwin found the Neanderthal.
12:53She brings a baby with her, implying that it is William's child.
