00:00I found a hidden door in my basement. I should have left it shut.
00:05We moved into the house three weeks ago. It was a fixer-upper, sure, but we got it for an
00:11absurdly low price, and my wife and I were desperate for a change. City life had worn us
00:17down, and this countryside place with its sprawling lawn and rustic charm felt like the piece we
00:22needed. Or so we thought. The real estate agent never mentioned the basement. In fact,
00:30now that I think about it. She avoided it. We didn't notice at first. The door to the basement
00:37was tucked away behind the kitchen pantry. You could miss it entirely unless you were looking.
00:43And three days ago, I was looking. I.D. dropped a can of beans and it rolled behind the pantry shelf.
00:51When I moved the whole thing to retrieve it, that's when I found it, a door, small and wooden,
00:56completely out of place with the rest of the house. No doorknob. Just a rusty iron ring.
01:04Naturally, I opened it that I wasn't expecting stairs. Narrow, winding, stone stairs that spiraled
01:11into blackness. There was no light switch, just that thick, heavy darkness that swallows sound
01:18and light alike. I told my wife about it that night. She laughed it off. Probably just an
01:25old coal room or storm cellar. Don't get all horror movie on me. The next day.
