During remarks on the House floor, Rep.Kevin Kiley (R-CA) warned Senate Republicans that a public land sales provision included in their version of the Big, Beautiful Bill could threaten its viability in the house.
Transcript
00:00Mr. Speaker, I seek unanimous consent to address the House for one minute to revise and extend the matter of remarks.
00:04Without a correction, the gentleman is recognized.
00:08Today, I have a simple message from my colleagues in the U.S. Senate.
00:13Do not mess with our public lands.
00:16I helped to defeat a provision originally included in the House reconciliation bill that would have provided for public land sales.
00:24We got it removed. But now, a similar provision has somehow re-emerged in the Senate.
00:32I want to be very clear. The inclusion of any such provision in the final version of the bill will imperil the entire reconciliation package.
00:42Our beautiful public lands are not just national treasures.
00:46They are deeply interwoven with our communities.
00:50They are essential to the character of our region.
00:53They provide jobs and economic activity.
00:56They provide recreation and joy.
00:59And they're open to all.
01:00And I will fight in every way I can to assure that they remain open to all
01:04and that the will of our local communities is not subordinated to decisions made in Washington, D.C.
01:11I yield back.
