00:00Well and everybody! Well and everybody!
00:03Oh, I love my job so much.
00:05I feel very privileged to be a learning disability nurse
00:08and making sure that the care that we give is person-centred at all times.
00:13So I support people with a learning disability when they come into the hospital.
00:18We would say hospital is difficult for most people,
00:21but for people with a learning disability, I think it presents more challenges.
00:26It can be a very overwhelming and stressful experience.
00:29So I think that having a learning disability nurse in place to help support that care journey
00:36has added great value to their hospital journey.
00:39So I can visit wards, I can visit ED.
00:42I then will look at putting in reasonable adjustments and chatting to the ward about what that would look like.
00:47Every day is different. I meet so many different people
00:50and it's raising the profile of not only learning disability nurses
00:54but also the care needs of people with a learning disability
00:57and being able to work with the staff teams to see how we put a reasonable adjustment in
01:02to make that procedure easier for the person
01:05and then the outcome, the health outcome for that person is so much better.
01:09And it is like a bit of a safety net having someone like Paula here.
01:12You just relax and she'll have a look at this, she'll have a look at that and she'll get stuff done.
01:16Paula has been extremely helpful.
01:17So having someone like Paula raises that consensus.
01:20It's good to know that she's there.
01:22I've been doing work and training with different staff teams across the hospital
01:27whether it's healthcare assistants or nursing staff and that has been really valuable.
01:32The training that we do I feel brings confidence to the staff when they're managing people with learning disabilities.
01:39My role is helping people with learning disabilities being seen within the hospital.
01:44It's helping staff care for them in a way that meets their needs.
01:50Being able to empathise with them and make that journey better
01:54and have better health outcomes for them.
01:57I think it's just so incredible and I love being a part of that.
