NATO allies are “absolutely committed” to the importance of the alliance, the Prime Minister has said. Asked if he would seek clarity from Mr Trump over his commitment to Article 5, Sir Keir said: “I think it’s very important that we stand here as allies, and we do stand here as allies, coming together, absolutely committed to the importance of NATO, particularly at this point in a very volatile world.” Report by Gluszczykm. 00:00Well, NATO is as relevant and as important today as it's ever been.
00:05We live in a very volatile world, and today is about the unity of NATO,
00:09showing that strength. We're bigger than we were before, we're stronger than we were before.
00:14There's a historic commitment in relation to spending.
00:19And for me, as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,
00:22it's important that we pay our integral part because the safety and security
00:26of our citizens in the UK is my first duty as Prime Minister.
00:30I take that extremely seriously.
00:32And in relation to our contribution, the increased defence spend,
00:36obviously that goes to our security and our safety,
00:39but it also is the engine of growth and jobs in the United Kingdom.
00:44So this is a very important meeting of the summit.
00:48NATO comes together at an important point, stronger and larger and more determined than ever.
00:53Well, look, I think it's very important that we stand here as allies,
00:58and we do stand here as allies coming together,
01:01absolutely committed to the importance of NATO,
01:05particularly at this point in a very volatile world.
