00:00SECEK ZIEMBA
00:05Hello, my name is Secek Ziemba, and I'm Game Director in Project Kronos.
00:09And my name is Shamil Jan Buchtin. I'm Lead Combat Designer here in Kronos.
00:14And today we want to talk about combat in Kronos the New Dawn.
00:17Serious business.
00:20So, we want to make a combat experience in a surviving atmosphere
00:26where we put a lot of emphasis into a tactical experience for the players.
00:30We need to stay cautious and call all the time
00:33because our enemies, our fans, can merge with each other.
00:36So, when you kill an enemy, it creates, in a way, a fuel for other enemies
00:41to be absorbed and then to become stronger.
00:44So, yeah, it's tactical gameplay, but during the fight
00:47you need to also think very fast what should you do.
00:51Since we're aiming into the tactical and decision-making approach
00:57we're making each encounter in the game handcrafty
01:02which leads to that somewhere you have environment as your own advantage.
01:07Somewhere not and it's going to be a disadvantage.
01:10Somewhere you can use the canister.
01:12Somewhere you can lure the enemy out into your position.
01:16Or you can do vice versa and just go into melee
01:20and fight with your enemies with your best luck.
01:22There is no one solution to how to, you know, clear out arenas and so on.
01:27Depends on your playstyle.
01:28Even, you know, in here when we, you know, develop the game
01:31some of us play more offensive, more defensive.
01:34It all depends on your loadout, your gameplay style in a way,
01:38and how you want to approach it and how many resources you have.
01:41So, there's a lot of variability there.
01:44It's actually up to you how the resource management would be handled.
01:52Because here we are giving you different types of weapons,
01:56different tools, abilities, and throughout the game
02:00you have to by yourself figure out what works best for you.
02:06What kind of player you are and what kind of strategy
02:10fits for you better in our environment.
02:13Resource management is also a key, of course, in survival horror,
02:16but definitely in our game.
02:18So, it's very important what you are doing before the fight,
02:21with the resource during the fight and after the fight.
02:24If you are more offensive player, you can craft any more ammunition.
02:27If you are a more defensive one or want to have more health packs,
02:30okay, from the same resources you will decide,
02:32okay, I want to have something for, you know, when it will be needed.
02:36Yes, of course you can.
02:41As many other survival horror games, we made a decent progression tree for the player.
02:47So, you can upgrade your weaponry, your tools, your suit.
02:51It's up to you how you would like to upgrade your character that fits best for your play style.
02:58In Kronos game, we came up with the different takes on the enemies.
03:06So, here we build different types of roles for them.
03:10So, we are measuring a role of a runner whose basic goal is to run to the player
03:15and kill him as fast as it can.
03:17Or a different one, which is like a ranger character,
03:20who stays behind and shoots you and forces you to go closer to him.
03:24There are bruisers, there are big ass tanky guys,
03:29whose the only goal is to grab as much resources they can from you.
03:33With that idea, we created a lot of unique encounters within the game.
03:39And we are asking you to think, analyze and decide on yourself
03:45what would be the best target to start fighting.
03:48All of that is slipped by a merge system.
03:51So, even if you are, you know, very good at what Shamil said,
03:54when merge happens, now, you know, your running enemy can become a tank enemy.
03:58Oh, yeah.
03:59And even have a ranged attack now or other attacks
04:02and just become stronger and stronger if you let them merge.
04:05So, don't do it.
04:06So, you need to be very careful, you know, how to approach combat with our enemies.
04:11Because different things can happen during the fight.
04:14But also, we mix that with different types of enemies,
04:18like more sneaky ones or like more trap-like ones here and there,
04:22also to change the pace of the game.
04:24But also, I think somebody said something about boss fights.
04:28No, no, no, no, no, no. We're not talking about boss fights.
04:31So, yeah, that's a secret. Sorry.
04:33Yes and no.
04:36So, all travelers need to jump to the past to extract some targets.
04:41But each of them will have different, let's say, list of them.
04:47You can find an upgrade in the game that can tell the state of health of enemies.
04:53So, how much they still have before you kill them by using guns.
05:00You raise your leg and you stop.
05:06With a heavy sound.
05:07Yeah.
05:13No.
05:17You will suffer.
05:19So, that's all for today.
05:20Thank you for watching and stay tuned for more materials in the future about Chronos the New Dawn.
05:30Have a great day.
05:35Thank you very much, guys.
05:37Good afternoon.
