00:07and the principal at the Grammar School at Leeds, Sue Woodroof, was one of the big winners on the night.
00:13She was named the Independent Head Teacher of the Year, with the Chair of Governors at the Grammar School at Leeds, Angus Martin,
00:20saying that he's never met anybody quite so child-focused.
00:24Sue said winning the award was a real privilege, and said she's proud to work alongside such dedicated staff, supportive families and incredible young people.
00:34Described as the Oscars of Education, the winners of the awards were selected by a distinguished panel of judges, including school leaders and sector experts.
00:43Across 23 award categories, the chosen schools and educators represent the very best of UK education, highlighting distinction in every corner of the sector.
00:54Sue said that everything the school has achieved has been through shared effort and belief, with the recognition meaning a great deal.
01:02Since 2016, she has driven up standards, increased school income, reduced debt and invested more than £25 million in capital projects, delivering direct student benefit.
01:14The Grammar School at Leeds was named the Sunday Times North Independent School of the Year last year, rising 53 places in their independent school rankings,
01:22and it was the third Sunday Times accolade for G-Cell during Sue's tenure.
01:27Alton Academy and its principal John Higgins were among a host of top nominees, and three schools in Bradford were also nominated at this year's awards.
01:35Throughout her 37-year career, Sue has said that everyone needs opportunities in order to flourish,
01:41and her job is to make sure every child can find their place to shine.
