Ex-Blackpool midfielder shares one of the challenges he's faced while coaching in America

Former Blackpool promotion winner Adrian Forbes is now the head coach and sporting director of USL League One side Texoma FC.   The 46-year-old admits he is loving his time in America, but has been surprised by some of the football challenges he's faced.

00:00It was a big culture shock that you can have all the understanding you want

00:03of the intricacies of the game of football, but it's not football over here.

00:07It's soccer.

00:09They are two completely different games, let me tell you.

00:11How the game is played over here, how the game is refereed over here,

00:15some of the rules and regulations over here and how the game is played,

00:18it's the same sport, but it's ran completely differently.

00:20As an example, at this point in time, I've probably seen maybe two or three

00:27correctly administered throw-ins in any game that I've been involved in.

00:33Every single throw is a foul throw, and the referees just say,

00:36oh, we don't penalise them over here.

00:39Okay, right.

00:42And when I say foul throws, I mean the technique is horrendous,

00:46but they're not taught it over here, so then they don't administer it

00:50from an official's point of view over here.

00:51So they're things that I'm having to learn with and amend and adapt to

00:55every single day from a coaching point of view.
