Transcript
00:00It is the
00:29young who have always fought the old men's wars. They are the cannon fodder, the frontline
00:36troops, the GIs and Tommies, Marines and bomber boys. At its best, war is fear cloaked in courage.
00:48At its worst, it is the devil's harvest.
00:56Across the decades, the sound and fury of Adolf Hitler still haunts.
01:08The Third Reich built the most powerful military the world had ever seen and taught mankind
01:14a new and terrifying word. Blitzkrieg.
01:30September 10, 1939. War comes to Canada. Over a million Canadians fought the Second World
01:38War at a cost of 42,000 lives. 10,000 in bomber command alone. And many of the men who took
01:47to the skies were barely out of their teens.
01:51Us guys just happened to be that age. And this is the way it was. It happens, it has happened
02:01thousands of times. The ones that are of age have to carry it out.
02:09We pass them each day without remark. The bomber boys have now grown old. But once they were
02:21freedom's sons, snared in an evil and dangerous time. A debt is owed to this last great generation,
02:31which can never be repaid. But at least it should not be forgotten.
