00:02:36Well, I mean, there's a lot of them out at night.
00:02:38You don't see them in town, that's why I come up here.
00:02:42Oh, no, no, no, that's not what I mean.
00:02:44I mean, you can see them better up here.
00:02:45I know what you mean, Steve.
00:02:46No, no, no, no, that's not what you think, Janie girl.
00:02:51My name is Jane.
00:02:54Just Jane.
00:02:58For a little while, I even thought that shooting star business wasn't just part of your line.
00:03:04But it's not, Janie, but...
00:03:06Jane, I've never brought anyone up here before.
00:03:10Never?
00:03:11Never?
00:03:16Never.
00:03:21Well, it may be crazy, but...
00:03:24Well, I believe you.
00:03:26Well, you're not crazy.
00:03:36Boy, that was closed.

00:05:08Huh.
00:05:28Oh, my God.
00:05:58Oh, my God.
00:06:28I'd have sworn it landed just over this hill.
00:06:31Maybe it's like lightning.
00:06:33Sometimes you think it's striking right next door and it's really miles away.
00:06:37No, I still think it's close by.
00:06:40Well, do you want to go back and try the other road?
00:06:47No.
00:06:48Huh?
00:06:50Well, I'm sorry about the bumpy ride.
00:06:54It's all right, Steve.
00:06:57Well, listen, why don't we go back to town and I'll apologize.
00:07:01I'll apologize over a sandwich.
00:07:03I mean, on me.
00:07:04Okay?
00:07:05Okay.
00:07:22Steve, watch out!
00:07:23What was that?
00:07:29It looked like an old man.
00:07:33Where'd he go?
00:07:35Hey, you okay?
00:07:36God, take me to a doctor.
00:07:39What's the matter?
00:07:41I can't get it off.
00:07:42Well, here, let me try.
00:07:43Maybe I can get it off.
00:07:44No, you can't.
00:07:46Okay.
00:07:47Come on, we'll get you in the car.
00:07:50No.
00:07:51You're okay.
00:07:52Go ahead, get in.
00:07:53It hurts.
00:07:53Take it easy now.
00:08:00Here, better put this on.
00:08:02Now, take it easy.
00:08:02We'll get you there as fast as we can.
00:08:05Boy, I hope the dock is in.
00:08:07Hey, Mrs. Porter.
00:08:08Back to Halden.
00:08:09I'm leaving now.
00:08:11Yes, I'll be back tomorrow night.
00:08:12Probably late.
00:08:15Oh, I haven't forgotten anything.
00:08:18Yes, I'll be fine.
00:08:21Look, Mrs. Porter.
00:08:22If you'll just keep your eye on the house while I'm gone.
00:08:26Goodbye.
00:08:38Come on.
00:08:50Hey, who's the cowboy?
00:08:51It's no cowboy, that's Steve Andrews.
00:08:53What?
00:08:54Yeah, that's his container.
00:08:55It's a real dog.
00:08:56Well, he can't do that to us.
00:08:58Hey, Doc.
00:09:03The End
00:09:23Hey, Doc!
00:09:25That's right, come on.
00:09:27Watch your hand.
00:09:29Hey, Doc, how this man's been hurt?
00:09:31Well, come on in.
00:09:33You want to get the door?
00:09:47Well, in there.
00:09:55What's the matter with him?
00:09:57How?
00:09:59I don't know. He's got something on his hand.
00:10:01What do you mean?
00:10:03Well, we ran into him down on the old north road.
00:10:05Ran into him?
00:10:07No, Doc. We picked him up out on the road.
00:10:09He was screaming about this thing on his hand.
00:10:11Let's take a look.
00:10:13Take it easy, old-timer.
00:10:15What is it he's got on his hand?
00:10:17I don't know, Doc. It was kind of like a...
00:10:19Well, a big blister on his fingers.
00:10:21You know?
00:10:23Easy now, easy.
00:10:25Well, how are we going to help you if you don't let us see it?
00:10:32Doc.
00:10:33It's gotten bigger.
00:10:35It was just on his hand before.
00:10:37Cover him with this, please.
00:10:38I'd better give him something.
00:10:42Take it easy, old-timer.
00:10:44Everything's gonna be all right.
00:10:46Steve, do you know who he is?
00:10:49Huh?
00:10:50Do you have any idea who he is?
00:10:52Oh, no.
00:10:53No.
00:10:57All right. Take it easy.
00:11:03There we are.
00:11:07Steve.
00:11:08Huh?
00:11:09Could you drive out to the place where you found him?
00:11:11See if he could find somebody that knows what happened.
00:11:14Right.
00:11:15Right.
00:11:16Right.
00:11:28Steve.
00:11:29Yeah.
00:11:31Would you turn out the outside light when you go?
00:11:33I don't want to be disturbed.
00:11:35Sure, Doc.
00:11:37Sure.
00:11:44Here we go.
00:12:11What's up?
00:12:12I'm fine.
00:12:21Congratulations.
00:12:22Yeah, for what?
00:12:24For what, he says.
00:12:25Modest.
00:12:26Mooch, quick, the crown.
00:12:29Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da!
00:12:38Okay, I give up.
00:12:40You just beat out the champion, pal.
00:12:42A little while ago when you came into town.
00:12:45Oh, I get it.
00:12:48Well, thanks anyway, but you can keep the crown.
00:12:51No, no, no, wait a minute, Steve.
00:12:54You just can't stop being the champion like that.
00:12:57You gotta meet a challenger.
00:12:59You mean you?
00:13:00Me?
00:13:02Did I say anything about a race, guys?
00:13:04Huh? Not a word.
00:13:06All right, look, it's been a ball, you know, but I gotta go.
00:13:10Yeah.
00:13:12We know how you go.
00:13:14We're just not so sure you should drive around so fast.
00:13:18Now, look, I just don't have time to prove anything tonight.
00:13:21Now, do you understand?
00:13:22Well, who's asking you to prove anything?
00:13:24We can beat this kiddie car of yours going backwards.
00:13:27Oh, that's a fog on transfusion.
00:13:35Okay.
00:13:37You say when.
00:13:38Okay.
00:13:39Okay.
00:13:40Okay.
00:13:41Okay.
00:13:42You say when.
00:13:43Okay.
00:13:44When.
00:13:45Okay.
00:13:46When.
00:13:47When.
00:13:48When.
00:13:49Oh.
00:13:50Oh.
00:13:51Oh.
00:13:52Oh.
00:13:53Oh.
00:13:54You say above.
00:13:57Oh.
00:13:59Hold.
00:14:00Oh.
00:14:01Oh.
00:14:02Oh.
00:14:11Yes.
00:14:13You say when.
00:14:14I told you, I got to leave now.
00:14:35Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.
00:14:38Hey, Steve.
00:14:44All right, what's this all about?
00:15:11Hi, Dave.
00:15:12Hey, what's up?
00:15:14Huh?
00:15:15I seem to be missing something.
00:15:17What's going on?
00:15:18We're just sitting here waiting for the light.
00:15:22Oh, you mean that light down there?
00:15:26Yeah.
00:15:29And you do know you're on the wrong side of the road.
00:15:35Would you think it was funny if your father, if Jane's father heard you were booked for reckless driving?
00:15:44Okay, don't bring the fathers into this.
00:15:46I'll never do it again.
00:15:47Do what again?
00:15:48Huh?
00:15:49Do what again?
00:15:50Huh?
00:15:51Do what again?
00:15:52Well, whatever you think I'm doing, Dave.
00:15:57Like driving on the wrong side of the road?
00:16:00Well, yeah.
00:16:01Yeah.
00:16:02Yeah.
00:16:03Or maybe even driving backwards?
00:16:08Hey, Dave, that's an idea.
00:16:10Hey, listen, you know that 80 or 90% of the actors are a front-end job.
00:16:14You know, in Australia, they've got airplanes, you know, with the seats that end backwards so in case they've got a collision, they've got no compa-
00:16:23No good, huh?
00:16:28Okay.
00:16:29Lock me up.
00:16:31You mean you were driving?
00:16:34Why?
00:16:35What am I going to do with you kids?
00:16:39You know I don't want to haul you in.
00:16:41No more fooling around, Dave.
00:16:43No, I mean it.
00:16:44I...
00:16:45I promise.
00:16:46Right, Jane?
00:16:47Right.
00:16:48See?
00:16:49No more horseplay.
00:16:50No more horseplay, Dave.
00:16:52No, no more fooling around.
00:16:54Get out of here.
00:16:58Hey, what happened?
00:17:16Sergeant Burt?
00:17:17No, no, Dave.
00:17:19Oh, you're lucky it wasn't Burtsy.
00:17:22Yeah, you're not kidding, man.
00:17:24Why?
00:17:25Sure, you're lucky it wasn't Bertsy.
00:17:27Yeah, you're not kidding, man.
00:17:28You don't know the half of it.
00:17:29What?
00:17:30Last night we seen Gig's car parked in front of Nancy's, you know?
00:17:33Listen to this.
00:17:34So we decided we'd move it, hide it on him.
00:17:37So we're moving it down the center of the street.
00:17:40Went along, comes Sergeant Bert.
00:17:43So Mooch tells him we can't get it started, you know.
00:17:48He says, I don't care, you're blocking traffic.
00:17:52Move it, move it out of the way, you know?
00:17:54So then he gets out of the car, comes over to us,
00:17:57and he's helping us move Gig's car.
00:18:01Just then, Gig comes out of the house,
00:18:04and he's yelling, who's stealing my car?
00:18:07How about Bertie would drop his teeth?
00:18:09I bet he did.
00:18:11Boy, if Gig didn't cover for us, we would have been in trouble.
00:18:14Yeah, you know, I'd sure hate to cross Bertie again tonight.
00:18:17Hey, what happened with you and Dave?
00:18:20I got a lecture, promised to be a good boy.
00:18:22You know, Dave's a good guy.
00:18:25I think we have been steaming it up a little too much.
00:18:28There's about two inches of rubber on the street outside Dock's house.
00:18:30Hey, I almost forgot I got to do something for the Dock.
00:18:33What?
00:18:34I got to go up on the old North Road and check on some people.
00:18:38You want to come with me?
00:18:38Oh, no, man, no, we're going to the Flicks.
00:18:40Sure, good luck. At this time of night?
00:18:42Yeah, it's a midnight spook bit.
00:18:44Now, we got some rumors there'd be some unprotected women in the balcony.
00:18:47All right, well, listen, why don't you, come on, come on, you know, come with us.
00:18:50And then you can go to the movies afterwards. Only take a half hour.
00:18:53Come on.
00:18:54It's okay with me.
00:18:56All right, man, either way.
00:18:57Okay.
00:18:57Good.
00:18:58Good.
00:18:58Good.
00:19:28Good.
00:19:58I'm going to take a look at him.
00:20:08Hello?
00:20:11Kate, Dr. Hallam, I'm still at the office.
00:20:14If something's come up, I'll need your help right away.
00:20:17No, you've got to come back, Kate.
00:20:20There's a man here with some sort of a parasite on his arm
00:20:23that's assimilating his flesh at a frightening speed.
00:20:26I may have to get ahead of it and amputate.
00:20:29Now, I...
00:20:31I don't know what it is or where it came from.
00:20:35Hey, man, look at that, will you?
00:20:38What is it, Steve?
00:20:39I don't know.
00:20:42Hey, what landed here?
00:20:44We must be getting pretty close to the front line.
00:20:46Hey, why would anybody leave a lantern here?
00:20:49I don't know.
00:20:51What is it, Steve?
00:20:52Hot.
00:20:54A shooting star?
00:20:55Hey, we saw that, too. A real big one.
00:20:57Like a sky rocket?
00:20:58Oh, yeah, about an hour ago.
00:21:00Do you think this is it?
00:21:02I don't know.
00:21:03Let me see.
00:21:07Wow.
00:21:09A real piece of sky.
00:21:10Here, Mooch.
00:21:11You mean that this little pebble's been out there hot rodding around the universe?
00:21:19Probably big as a moon when it started.
00:21:21No kidding. Let me see a Mooch.
00:21:25And this is all that's left?
00:21:28Well, it's all that's here.
00:21:29I'll bet there is a house close by.
00:21:32It doesn't sound like a house. It sounds like a dog.
00:21:34Come on, Steve. Let's go look.
00:21:35Yeah, sure.
00:21:37Hey, wait a minute.
00:21:39Hey, there's a house.
00:21:41Hey, there's a house.
00:21:56There's a house.
00:22:09Hey, really nice.
00:22:11Hello? Hello?
00:22:13Doesn't look like there's anybody here at all.
00:22:15Yeah, I can't see anything but just that little dog.
00:22:17Oh, Steve, open the door now.
00:22:19Okay. Come on.
00:22:21Come on. Come on.
00:22:23Come on, pal.
00:22:25Oh, come on, pal.
00:22:27Doesn't look like anybody there at all.
00:22:29Come on.
00:22:31I guess it's the old man's door. Don't you worry, baby.
00:22:33No.
00:22:35You think this is the place?
00:22:37Sure looks like it.
00:22:39Yeah, this is a cozy spot.
00:22:41No neighbors, no cars, no roads, no lights.
00:22:43Yeah, no movies.
00:22:45Come on, you guys. Let's get out of here.
00:22:47Let's go.
00:22:48I guess there's nothing else you can find out here, Steve.
00:22:50No, no. I guess not.
00:22:52Why don't you come with us to the spooky show, huh?
00:22:54Oh, you like it?
00:22:56No, no thanks.
00:22:57Oh, you gotta stop taking everything so seriously.
00:23:00Gotta live a little. You gotta go, you know?
00:23:02Yeah, Steve, you gotta hang loose like me.
00:23:05Okay, sure. The spooky show.
00:23:07Come on. Let's go, you guys.
00:23:08Yeah, coming.
00:23:10Steve?
00:23:12Yeah.
00:23:13What about the dog?
00:23:15I don't know.
00:23:17I mean, we can't just leave him here, he'd starve to death.
00:23:20Yeah, that's right.
00:23:21Couldn't we take him with us?
00:23:22Sure, I guess that's the least we could do for the old man.
00:23:24Come on, let's go.
00:23:26Oh, hello, Kate. Thanks for coming back.
00:23:42It's okay. What do you want me to do?
00:23:45Well, you better take his pulse, but don't touch that material on his right hand.
00:23:48It absorbs flesh on contact, like an acid.
00:23:58Doctor? Where is he?
00:24:01What do you mean?
00:24:08Kate, stand still. Don't move.
00:24:10Must have absorbed the old man completely.
00:24:13I don't know what this is, but it's got to be killed before it gets any bigger.
00:24:17Oh, doctor, I'm afraid.
00:24:19Try to stay as far away from it as you can.
00:24:21Kate, be calm.
00:24:22Now do as I say.
00:24:25Behind you.
00:24:26The trichloroacetic acid.
00:24:40Throw it.
00:24:41Yes, but for heaven's sake, don't get any of it on your hands.
00:24:55Doctor, nothing will stop it.
00:24:57A gun in my den.
00:25:00I've got to go for it, Kate.
00:25:02I'll try to stay absolutely still.
00:25:04Don't go. Don't leave me.
00:25:06I'll be right back.
00:25:08Doctor, come back. Come back.
00:25:16Kate, what's the matter?
00:25:20Kate! Kate, what is it?
00:25:21Kate!
00:25:22Kate, what is it? Kate!
00:25:38What is it? Kate?
00:25:39Kate!
00:25:40Kate!
00:25:52Kate!
00:25:56Kate!
00:25:57Listen, you stay there, and I'll go in and tell the doc.
00:26:02It doesn't look like there's anybody here.
00:26:04Yeah.
00:26:05Well, you know, maybe he took the old man over to the hospital.
00:26:08Anyway, I'll check.
00:26:09Okay.
00:26:10Okay.
00:26:15Listen, you stay there, and I'll go in and tell the doc.
00:26:17It doesn't look like there's anybody here.
00:26:19Yeah.
00:26:20Well, you know, maybe he took the old man over to the hospital.
00:26:23Anyway, I'll check.
00:26:24Okay.
00:26:40Listen, I'm gonna check in the garage and see if the doc's car is there.
00:27:03Oh, okay.
00:27:10Steve.
00:27:11Steve, what's the matter?
00:27:25Steve.
00:27:26Well, tell me, what happened?
00:27:29I can't.
00:27:30Well, what happened?
00:27:31It was so...
00:27:33Steve, what is it?
00:27:35It's got the doc.
00:27:37It's got...
00:27:38Well, what's the matter with him?
00:27:39I'd just like to think in the old man's hand.
00:27:41Only...
00:27:42Only it was bigger.
00:27:43And then it was on his old head.
00:27:44And then in just a second, he disappeared.
00:27:46He disappeared?
00:27:47He was all gone.
00:27:48He was all gone.
00:27:49You know, he just disappeared just a second.
00:27:50Steve, what are you talking about?
00:27:55I'm sorry.
00:27:56Get in the car, Jane.
00:27:58Well, what are you gonna do, Steve?
00:28:00We're gonna go to the police.
00:28:01They'll know what to do.
00:28:04There's nothing to do unless you're out of the room.
00:28:07I'm sorry.
00:28:08I'm sorry.
00:28:09I'm sorry.
00:28:10I'm sorry.
00:28:11Sure.
00:28:12And then, um...
00:28:15Well, we can get some out of there tomorrow, or three.
00:28:17Yeah.
00:28:18We'll have some out of there tomorrow.
00:28:19Well, what's this?
00:28:20Hey, watch this, Dave.
00:28:21Don't mix up to pieces.
00:28:23Richie, you old buzzard.
00:28:25I didn't know you were a chess player.
00:28:27That's why I've been telling you, Dave.
00:28:28You're not the only thinker around here.
00:28:30It's nothing.
00:28:31Just a hobby kind of, you know?
00:28:32Well, wait.
00:28:33Wait a minute.
00:28:34I think this is pretty interesting.
00:28:36Who do you play with?
00:28:37Well, late at night when I'm here by myself and things are pretty slow, I...
00:28:43Well, you gotta do something.
00:28:45You oughta take up chess, Dave.
00:28:47Loosen up your gray matter a little.
00:28:49I guess I'd better.
00:28:50You'll have to teach me, Richie.
00:28:52Sure, Dave.
00:28:53Anytime.
00:28:54Dave!
00:28:55Doc Hallen's been killed.
00:28:56Doc Hallen?
00:28:57What happened?
00:28:58It's over at his place.
00:28:59You gotta come now.
00:29:00Steve, tell us what happened.
00:29:01Well, I'm trying to tell you.
00:29:02Now, this thing had killed the Doc.
00:29:04Well, what was it?
00:29:05Stop with it, kid.
00:29:07Well, it's kinda like a...
00:29:09It's kinda like a mass.
00:29:10It keeps getting bigger and bigger.
00:29:13Come on, Steve.
00:29:14Makes sense.
00:29:15I know.
00:29:16I know.
00:29:17Look, Dave.
00:29:18You gotta see this thing to believe what I'm telling you.
00:29:19Maybe the thing you saw was a monster?
00:29:23Yeah.
00:29:24Maybe it was.
00:29:25I don't know.
00:29:26Hold on, Jim.
00:29:27Now, what is this, Steve?
00:29:29A little while ago, it was driving backwards.
00:29:31And now, it's monsters.
00:29:33Look, he's not making it up.
00:29:34Dave, honest.
00:29:35Dave, I'm not kidding.
00:29:36I swear.
00:29:37Come on over the Doc.
00:29:38You can see it for yourself.
00:29:39You're crazy if you go.
00:29:40Can't you see it's a gag?
00:29:42He says Doc Hallen's dead, Jim.
00:29:44We've gotta check it out.
00:29:45Let's go.
00:29:46Richie, you mind the store.
00:29:49Hey, listen.
00:29:50I got sick.
00:29:53Listen.
00:29:54Amen.
00:29:55Come on, owner.
00:29:57Come on.
00:29:59Here's the plastic hands in the head.
00:30:00Come on, just listen.
00:30:01Come on.
00:30:02Come on.
00:30:03Listen.
00:30:04Come on, Alma.

00:32:33Seems to be a short circuit in here.
00:32:37You got your light?
00:32:50Everything looks okay.
00:33:03There. I think this is the room I saw him in.
00:33:15Clark, I'll see if I can find a key that'll work.
00:33:19No, the key's already here. It's been locked from the inside.
00:33:26Hello? Who's in there?
00:33:28You better go around and see if the window's unlocked.
00:33:33If it isn't, break the glass, come in and unlock the door.
00:33:36Right. You're not gonna let him do that.
00:33:38Now, don't worry, Steve. Sergeant Bird knows how to handle himself.
00:33:42And this is the only way to get to the bottom of this.
00:33:45I'll see if I can find the fuse box. Okay.
00:33:53Steve, I wonder where the little dog is.
00:33:58Yeah.
00:33:59What do you think happened to him?
00:34:02I don't know.
00:34:08Well, that's more like it.
00:34:10I don't know.
00:34:27This must have been what blew the fuse.
00:34:33Jim?
00:34:34Well, where do you get a load of this mess?
00:34:47What about this, Steve?
00:34:48I don't know, Dave.
00:34:49I can't figure it, but I know I saw the duck.
00:34:51All right, kid. Cut the act. What really happened here?
00:34:54I don't know.
00:34:55All of a sudden, your mind isn't blank. Is that it? No?
00:34:57Steve, are you sure this is the room?
00:34:59Yes. Yes, I'm sure of it.
00:35:04This has been fired.
00:35:07I haven't seen any shot marks around any place.
00:35:10Let me tell you what happened, kid.
00:35:12You and whoever else was in on this with you thought you'd put one over on the police.
00:35:16So you break in here when the doc's not around, you mess the place up a little...
00:35:19Oh, wait a minute, Jim. The kids couldn't have done this.
00:35:22You saw for yourself. The window was locked from the inside.
00:35:25And so was the door.
00:35:26They rigged it with a piece of string. It's part of that plan to make us look silly.
00:35:31I think you're doing that pretty well by yourself, Sergeant.
00:35:36Steve, was there anybody else with you?
00:35:39No.
00:35:40How about when I stopped you over on Morgan Street?
00:35:43When you were pulling that stunt?
00:35:45Those kids had nothing to do with this.
00:35:47Who were they?
00:35:48Why, it was Tony Grisad and Mooch Miller.
00:35:51Those kids? Well, that's your answer right there.
00:35:53They're just the kind of kids that pull a trick like this.
00:35:56But this time, they've gone too far.
00:35:58What goes on out here?
00:36:00For God's sake.
00:36:02What are you doing here, Mrs. Porter?
00:36:03Boy, oh boy, oh boy.
00:36:05Wait till doctor gets back and sees this.
00:36:08Back from where?
00:36:10Lieutenant, was it burglars?
00:36:12Well, we don't know yet.
00:36:14Where's Dr. Hallin?
00:36:15Johnsonville, a medical convention.
00:36:18You know, I told him this would happen one of these days.
00:36:21The way he leaves everything unlocked.
00:36:23Of course, it was my fault too.
00:36:25He asked me to keep an eye on the place.
00:36:27But that's not true, Dave.
00:36:29He never left.
00:36:30I don't think I've had the pleasure.
00:36:33Oh, this is Steve Andrews, Mrs. Porter.
00:36:35He seems to think the doctor got into some kind of trouble here tonight.
00:36:38No, sir.
00:36:39The doctor don't know anything about this.
00:36:42He called me just before he left.
00:36:44He didn't leave?
00:36:46Look, Dave, I bet his car is still in the garage.
00:36:49Might be.
00:36:51Doctor sometimes goes in somebody else's car.
00:36:54Dr. Gilpin, from over in Grovertown.
00:36:56Jim, call Dr. Gilpin.
00:36:58Right.
00:37:01He won't be home.
00:37:03Just checking.
00:37:05Mrs. Porter, did you hear any gunshots tonight?
00:37:09I sure did.
00:37:10Tonight and every other night,
00:37:12the people downstairs have those old movies on their television.
00:37:15There's always some shooting or screaming.
00:37:18Oh, whoever this thief was,
00:37:20he didn't have to tear up the place like this.
00:37:22I feel terrible.
00:37:24Oh, wait a minute, Mrs. Porter.
00:37:26I don't want any of this touched.
00:37:27Oh, I don't want the doctor to come back tomorrow
00:37:29and find a place like this.
00:37:31Bad enough the window's broken all.
00:37:33But, Mrs. Porter...
00:37:34Now, you boys have your work to do, and I have mine.
00:37:38There's a criminal walking around out there, free as a bird.
00:37:41You go get him. Let me clean up here.
00:37:44Mrs. Porter, you don't understand.
00:37:46We may want to check here for fingerprints later.
00:37:49Dr. Gilpin's on his way to Johnsonville.
00:37:51Did he pick up Dr. Hallam?
00:37:53I spoke with Mrs. Gilpin, and she said that Dr. Hallam had called
00:37:56around 11 o'clock just after her husband left.
00:37:59But she thought they were going to get her.
00:38:01Well, where can we reach them in Johnsonville?
00:38:03I don't know. I didn't ask her that.
00:38:04At St. John's Hotel. That's where the doctor usually stays.
00:38:08Well, they should be there in a couple of hours.
00:38:11We'll leave word to have him call us when he checks in.
00:38:14Can't I just dust around the fingerprints?
00:38:17Tomorrow.
00:38:19Well, let's go, kids.
00:38:21Dave, this is all wrong.
00:38:23All right, kid. The show's over.
00:38:25It was a cute act, but this time it didn't work.
00:38:27This locked door business really hung you.
00:38:29If everything happened like you said it didn't, where's the doctor?
00:38:32Now, where's this old man?
00:38:34Now, where's the big bad monster?
00:38:37I don't know.
00:38:43Hey, hand me that small hammer, will you?
00:38:46Why don't you finish that tomorrow?
00:38:48I ain't gonna be here.
00:38:52Going on a hunting trip.
00:38:54I didn't know you was a hunter.
00:38:57Neither did I.
00:38:59We got our little cabin up in the south woods to poison me.
00:39:02And I'm telling you, Marty boy, we're going up there this weekend.
00:39:07And I'm gonna get so roaring, stinking, no good drunk.
00:39:11I won't be able to see.
00:39:14Hey, why don't you come with us?
00:39:16It'll do you some good.
00:39:17Oh, I don't think Martha figured that way.
00:39:20Do you have to tell your old woman everything?
00:39:23Tell her you got to see your sick friend.
00:39:25Tell her your uncle died.
00:39:26Tell her you're going away so you can love her more when you get back.
00:39:30Good night.
00:39:31Boy, I'm so tired of looking at the inside guts of second-hand cars, I could spit grease.
00:39:38You know, Marty, if I didn't get away once in a while and cut loose, I'd blow a gasket.
00:39:47And when I come here on Monday, if Mr. Johnson looks at me funny just once...
00:39:53Just once!
00:39:55You know what I'm gonna do to him, Marty?
00:39:59Hey, Marty!
00:40:00Look, Steve, you keep telling me about a monster. I don't know what you're talking about.
00:40:09All I want to do is clear this thing up.
00:40:10All right, I agree, but I still don't see why you had to call our folks.
00:40:13Hey, it's for you.
00:40:14What else could I do, Steve?
00:40:15Well, give us a chance to find out what happened.
00:40:17You know we didn't pair up Doc's house.
00:40:19Look, how long have you known me, Dave? Have I ever done anything like that before?
00:40:21All right, all right, I believe you.
00:40:23But I still don't think you're telling me all you know.
00:40:25Hello?
00:40:28Yeah.
00:40:29Well, young lady, do you mind telling me where you've been spending the evening?
00:40:32Daddy, it's all right.
00:40:33Oh, yes, everything's fine.
00:40:35I always stop by the police station in the middle of the night to pick up my daughter.
00:40:38Don't you realize what this will do to me? Why, by morning, it will be all over town.
00:40:43Well, we were just trying to warn people.
00:40:46Why, after all, I am a principal of the high school.
00:40:50Young man, this is the last time you're ever going to take my daughter out.
00:40:53Steve didn't do anything wrong.
00:40:56Mr. Andrews, can you make anything out of all this? I can't.
00:40:58Well, take it easy, Mr. Martin. We'll straighten everything out. Hello, son.
00:41:03Dad, I saw something terrible tonight.
00:41:05And nobody will believe us.
00:41:09Mr. Martin, Mr. Andrews.
00:41:12Apparently, Doc Hallen's office was broken into by vandals tonight.
00:41:17And Steve and Jane seem to know something about it.
00:41:20Vandals? My daughter?
00:41:22My daughter?
00:41:23Well, you don't think our kids were mixed up in it, do you?
00:41:26All we know is that they told us something had happened over at Dr. Hallen's house.
00:41:31We're not accusing anyone of what we found.
00:41:34Now, we can't be more definite until we contact Dr. Hallen in Johnsonville.
00:41:37Dad, it isn't vandalism.
00:41:40Dr. Hallen is dead and he was killed by some sort of a monster.
00:41:44Now, I know because I saw it, Dad.
00:41:47Lieutenant, I want you to know that Steve is not in the habit of telling lies.
00:41:51If he says he's not mixed up in this vandalism, you can be sure it's the truth.
00:41:57Did you see this thing too, Jane?
00:42:00Well...
00:42:06No, not exactly.
00:42:13Well, look, folks.
00:42:14We'll all know more in the morning after we've called Johnsonville.
00:42:17I think the best thing now is for all of us to go home and get some sleep.
00:42:22Maybe it's a good idea, son.
00:42:23We can talk about this some more at home.
00:42:25Sure, Pop.
00:42:29I'm sorry.
00:42:30You can have the house done as you can.
00:42:31I'll be over.
00:42:42Maybe Bertie's right.
00:42:44Maybe this is just a gag like those school fraternities were throwing last year.
00:42:50Remember how they stitched that bathing suit to the statue of General Hayes?
00:42:55I don't think this is a gag.
00:42:58Why didn't you book the kids then?
00:43:01Why make a big thing of it tonight if we can clear the whole thing up tomorrow?
00:43:06Boy, if it was Bertie, he'd have them strung up by the thumbs by now.
00:43:10Maybe he would.
00:43:11Police department.
00:43:17Hold on. It's Bertie.
00:43:25Hello?
00:43:26Dave?
00:43:27Yeah?
00:43:28I checked around the neighborhood.
00:43:29A couple of people thought they heard shots, but they weren't sure.
00:43:32Okay, Jim.
00:43:33Doc's place locked up?
00:43:34Yeah.
00:43:35Check back in, then.
00:43:36Right.
00:43:37We'll get the truth out of those kids if it takes all night.
00:43:39I sent the kids home.
00:43:41Home?
00:43:42Are you crazy?
00:43:44Jim, we'll take care of this whole thing tomorrow.
00:43:47Yes, sir.
00:43:48Is that all?
00:43:49Yes.
00:43:50That's all.
00:43:51Bertie got some idea what this is?
00:43:54I don't care what Bertie's ideas are.
00:43:57He acts like he was still fighting the war.
00:44:00Just because some kid smacks into his wife on the turnpike doesn't make it a crime to be 17 years old.
00:44:06Okay, so I don't know what the kids are up to tonight, but I'm not going to throw them into a cell like a couple of vagrants.
00:44:16We'll put this puzzle together in the morning.
00:44:19In the meantime, at least we know where the kids are.
00:44:21Hey, where are you going?
00:44:36Oh, shh, Danny.
00:44:38Shhh.
00:44:39Where are you going?
00:44:40I've got something very important to do, Danny, but it's got to be a secret.
00:44:44I won't tell anybody. I'll go with you.
00:44:49No, honey, I have to go by myself.
00:44:51Will you be back pretty soon?
00:44:54Well, I don't know.
00:44:56Aren't you afraid to go out by yourself?
00:44:59Yes, I guess I am, Danny.
00:45:01I'm not afraid. I'll guard you.
00:45:05Oh, no, Danny. You've got a bigger job to do. You've got to stay here and guard Mommy and Daddy.
00:45:10Aw, they don't need guarding.
00:45:12Oh, look, Danny, go on to bed if...
00:45:15Look, if you go to bed, I might... I might bring you a little dog all of your very own.
00:45:19A dog? Honest?
00:45:21Honest. I cross my heart.
00:45:23Old boy!
00:45:24Now, shh. Go on up to bed.
00:45:29What's his name?
00:45:30Oh, any name you want, Danny.
00:45:32Can I name him William?
00:45:34Oh, that's a fine name, Danny. Now, you better run on up to bed.
00:45:38Go on.
00:45:39Oh, I don't like William.
00:45:42You run on to bed, Danny.
00:45:48Steve.
00:45:49Steve?
00:45:58Is he asleep?
00:45:59Yes.
00:46:01Do you think he did something wrong?
00:46:03Well, I don't know. I don't think so.
00:46:05And apparently the police told either, or they wouldn't have sent him home.
00:46:09I felt that he was keeping something from us.
00:46:12Yes, he did seem more willing to talk when we were at the police station.
00:46:16Well, I think...
00:46:17Well, tomorrow if he and I talk, we'll need to straighten this out.
00:46:20Maybe.
00:46:21After a good night's sleep.
00:46:23Yeah.
00:46:25Good night.
00:46:26Good night, dear.
00:46:56Good night.
00:47:01You scared me to death.
00:47:02What are you doing here?
00:47:03Listen, Jane, I told you to wait over there.
00:47:05Well, the folks went right to bed, so I came on out.
00:47:07I didn't see you, so I thought I should just come on over.
00:47:09All right, come on. Let's go around the corner.
00:47:11What?
00:47:12It's...
00:47:19Steve?
00:47:20Huh?
00:47:21Oh, I'm sorry.
00:47:23At least I could have done as thank you for coming out tonight.
00:47:25You didn't need to.
00:47:27I never needed to talk to anyone before, not as much as I do now.
00:47:30Well, we're in this together, aren't we, Steve?
00:47:35You know, I wish that we'd come back after that.
00:47:38You know, I wish that we'd...
00:47:44I must be getting confused.
00:47:49I know we saw the old man.
00:47:51I know we took him to the docks.
00:47:53And I know the docks sent us out to see if we could find out what happened.
00:47:59And I know the old man had something on his hands,
00:48:01something he couldn't get off.
00:48:03Something that kept getting larger.
00:48:05Oh.
00:48:08And then I...
00:48:11I think I saw the doc. He was standing by the window.
00:48:14And he was...
00:48:16He was trying to get out.
00:48:18And that thing was all over him.
00:48:22And then he...
00:48:24Just dissolved while I stood there.
00:48:26I think I saw this.
00:48:30I believe you did.
00:48:35You know, plenty of people in their right minds thought they saw things that didn't exist.
00:48:44You know, like flying saucers.
00:48:47The light was just right in the angle and the imagination.
00:48:53Oh, boy, if that's what it is, then this is just an ordinary night.
00:48:57And you and I are gonna go home and go to sleep.
00:48:59And tomorrow when we get up, that sun's gonna shine.
00:49:02Just like yesterday.
00:49:05Good old yesterday.
00:49:07Steve.
00:49:09Well, you believe you did see it, don't you?
00:49:12I don't know. I...
00:49:14That's not true, Steve.
00:49:15Well, maybe...
00:49:18Maybe now you...
00:49:20You don't wanna believe it.
00:49:21Maybe you'd like to tell yourself it didn't happen.
00:49:25Steve, you're not the kind of person that can turn your back on something you know is true.
00:49:32I don't know.
00:49:34Well, you actually did see what happened to Dr. Hallam.
00:49:37How do you know I did?
00:49:40Because I know you.
00:49:45I don't know.
00:49:49Okay.
00:49:52Well, now what do we do?
00:49:54How do you get people to protect themselves from something they don't believe in?
00:49:57Well, you keep trying.
00:49:59And hoping you can find some sort of proof that'll convince them.
00:50:05Okay.
00:50:07I mean, I don't like it much.
00:50:09But I guess the only way you can find that is to go out and look for it.
00:50:15I'll go get the car.
00:50:45You sure you want to go with me?
00:50:46Yes.
00:50:47I wouldn't give much for our chances.
00:50:48You sure you want to go with me?
00:50:49Yes.
00:50:50I wouldn't give much for our chances.

00:50:55Yes.
00:50:56I wouldn't give much for our chances.
00:50:57You know, one day around the middle of the night, trying to find something that if we found it, it might kill us.

01:07:47Now, wait a minute!
01:07:48It's one thing to make a fool out of yourself,
01:07:49but it's another thing to make a fool out of the police department and the whole town!
01:07:52He's right, Lieutenant!
01:07:53You've been wrong before!
01:07:54Maybe I have!
01:07:55But as long as I'm in charge of this town's police force,
01:07:57I'm gonna handle this thing the way I see fit!
01:07:59And your job right now is to help me restore some order around here!
01:08:01Yes, sir!

01:08:03Quiet down!
01:08:04Please!
01:08:05Listen, this is an emergency, and it can affect every one of us!
01:08:07That's all I can tell you right now!
01:08:08But we're trying to get things under control!
01:08:09In order to do that, we have to clear the system down!
01:08:12As long as I'm in charge of this town's police force,
01:08:13I'm gonna handle this thing the way I see fit!
01:08:15And your job right now is to help me restore some order around here!
01:08:16Yes, sir!

01:08:18Quiet down!
01:08:19Please!
01:08:20Listen!
01:08:21This is an emergency!
01:08:22And it can affect every one of us!
01:08:24That's all I can tell you right now!
01:08:27But we're trying to get things under control!
01:08:28In order to do that, we have to clear this area immediately.
01:08:31So please go home and stay there.
01:08:34We'll keep in touch with you through your radio station.
01:08:37Now, be careful pulling your cars out of this area.
01:08:40Go home slowly and quietly.
01:08:43Just keep calm. Everything's going to be all right.
01:08:50Anything I can do to help you save?
01:08:52Lieutenant, what's going on?
01:08:53Ask your daughter, Mr. Martin. She can tell you more than I can.
01:08:56Phil, can you boys give us a hand clearing this area?
01:08:59Sure.
01:09:00Do you have any guns?
01:09:01A couple of them.
01:09:02Get them.
01:09:03Say, Dave, what is this thing that our kids are talking about?
01:09:06I don't know, but if it's in the market, we'll all know in a few minutes.
01:09:12Now all the images of horror, the demons of your mind,
01:09:16crowd in on you to destroy you.
01:09:26Good ears!
01:09:28Here are you.
01:09:29No applications we get up?
01:09:30No applications we can do now!
01:09:31Go for the box and sing!
01:09:32I'll buy your boxes, host!
01:09:33You've got no breaks, there are crazy guys,
01:09:34how about the bullies or a pair?
01:09:35So damn!

01:09:37anteursome?
01:09:40So good of course, you won't see you,
01:09:43if you're going to drop yourself ill.
01:09:44This is here.
01:09:45It has one Cristian.
01:09:46Alright.
01:09:47Also niez near your lah berry.
01:09:49Oh, my God.
01:10:19Oh, my God.
01:10:34Bill, can you move your truck over to the door and shine your big light into the market?
01:10:39Sure, Dave.
01:10:40Right.
01:10:42What?
01:10:45Hey, who's in the store?
01:10:48Huh?
01:10:49There's nobody in here but us monsters.
01:11:08Dave, Dave, the theater.
01:11:10Don't go in, Jim.
01:11:37This won't do any good.
01:11:39It's the most horrible thing I've ever seen in my life.
01:11:41See what I think?
01:11:42Come on.
01:11:42We've got to clear this area.
01:11:46All right.

01:11:47Everybody come back.
01:11:48Here we go.
01:12:00Here we go.

01:12:19Danny!
01:12:26No, Danny, wait!
01:12:30What goes? What happened out there? What?
01:12:34No, Danny, Danny, we can't see her. Come with me, Danny.
01:12:37Now listen, it's too late.
01:12:39What happened?
01:12:46What happened?
01:12:47It's all over.
01:12:48What do you mean it's all over?
01:12:50What's the matter?
01:12:53Jim, get the telephone company.
01:12:55I'll connect you with the diner. Fast.
01:12:58I'm getting out of here.
01:13:00Now, wait a minute. You open that door and we've had it.
01:13:02You understand? You want to die?
01:13:04You want to die?
01:13:09I don't think it can be killed, Steve.
01:13:11But we've got to try one more thing.
01:13:12Oh, okay.
01:13:13Is everybody all right?
01:13:14Okay, but not too long.
01:13:15Hello?
01:13:16Steve?
01:13:17Yeah.
01:13:18Hey, listen.
01:13:19This thing's all over, is it?
01:13:20No!
01:13:21What?
01:13:22I don't think it can be killed, Steve, but we've got to try one more thing.
01:13:25Oh, okay.
01:13:26Is everybody all right?
01:13:27Okay, but not too long.
01:13:28We can drop a power line on it.
01:13:29You understand?
01:13:30Yeah.
01:13:31There should be enough juice in that line to burn the thing to a crisp.
01:13:36Yeah.
01:13:37Get everyone down the cellar.
01:13:39We'll do it in 60 seconds, Steve.
01:13:42Cellar!
01:13:44Okay.
01:14:00Jim.

01:14:07It's all set to go.
01:14:08Try not to miss, Jim.
01:14:14Okay.
01:14:15Let's have those lights.
01:14:17Fifteen seconds.
01:14:19It's quiet now.
01:14:20I think the upstairs is clear.
01:14:34Good.
01:14:35Keep your ear to that phone, Richie.
01:14:36Okay, Jim.
01:14:40Okay, Jim.
01:14:41It didn't work.
01:14:42It didn't work.
01:14:43Why don't you do something.
01:14:45Why don't you do something?
01:14:46Why don't you do something to help me?
01:14:49I'm sorry.
01:14:50I'm sorry.
01:14:51I'm sorry.
01:14:52But, you know, I'm not going to do something else.
01:14:53I'm sorry.
01:14:54You're going to go to the hospital.
01:14:55You're going to be there.
01:14:56You're going to be there.
01:14:57It didn't work.
01:15:12Why don't you do something?
01:15:14Do something!
01:15:15The diner's on fire.
01:15:25Well, can we put it out?
01:15:27Any suggestions, Hal?
01:15:30Anyway, not enough oxygen in the air to keep a fire going for ten minutes.
01:15:42There's something burning!
01:15:44Now, listen. Is there any other way out of here?
01:15:58There's no windows!
01:16:14Hey. Now, you be quiet.
01:16:16Shh!
01:16:17I'm not afraid.
01:16:19Well, I know you're not.
01:16:21Hey, listen, Jane.
01:16:25It'll be all right.
01:16:27Honey, lay your head down and try to go to sleep.
01:16:31Everything will be all right, Nanny.
01:17:04Hey, where's the fire?
01:17:18Let me have that a minute.
01:17:34CO2.
01:17:35Hey, that's it.
01:17:37It's cold.
01:17:38That's why it didn't come in the icebox after us.
01:17:40It can't stand cold.
01:17:51You got any more of these things?
01:17:53No.
01:17:54Huh?
01:17:55Things running out.
01:17:56The phone.
01:17:57Hey, Dave.
01:17:58Hey, Dave.
01:17:59Hey, Dave.

01:18:09CO2.
01:18:10Phil.
01:18:11Phil.
01:18:12You got any CO2 extinguishers?
01:18:13Not many.
01:18:14Some soda acid.
01:18:15Well, get the CO2s out here and start hitting around those cellar windows.
01:18:20What?
01:18:21Just do it, Phil.
01:18:22And have your men check these buildings for fire extinguishers.
01:18:23But only the CO2 kind.
01:18:24Bring back everyone you can get your hands on and hurry.
01:18:25All right.
01:18:26Okay.
01:18:27Hey, maybe we can help.
01:18:28Let's get some of the guys together, huh?
01:18:29Lieutenant.
01:18:30I know where there are 20 extinguishers of that type.
01:18:31Good.
01:18:32Where?
01:18:33At the high school.
01:18:34Who can go with me?
01:18:35Hey, right here, Mr. Martin.
01:18:36Well, what are we waiting for?
01:18:38Let's go.
01:18:39Okay.
01:18:40Hey, let's go.
01:18:41I'll be here, Mr. Martin.

01:18:50Get off.
01:18:51Get out.
01:18:52Get in.
01:18:53Get out.
01:18:54Get out.

01:19:02Hey, Dave, Dave, Dave, CO2, fire extinguishers.
01:19:08Dave, can you hear me? CO2.
01:19:14Okay, come on.
01:19:19Here comes Mr. Martin. Here comes the principal.
01:19:32Here comes Mr. Martin.
01:19:48Hey, hey.
01:19:52Hey, hey, hey.
01:20:02We can only find four or five of these things, Dave.
01:20:06How many of them do you need?
01:20:07A lot more than that.
01:20:08Keep looking.
01:20:09It's all we can do.
01:20:10Okay.
01:20:15Colonel Spalding got me through to Washington.
01:20:18They thought I was crazy at first, but they're getting someone now.
01:20:21Hey, here come the kids' bags.
01:20:32Now, power's still out, so we can't do much in the way of refrigeration.
01:20:47We think we've got it under control, but we won't rest easy until it's frozen solid.
01:20:52Now, no, no, it's too big for that, and it's impossible to cut it.
01:20:57No, sir, a bomb would spread it all over the country.
01:21:03Look, this thing has killed probably 40 or 50 people since last night.
01:21:07In a few hours, we're going to have the sun overhead.
01:21:13I think you should send us the biggest transport plane you had.
01:21:16Take this thing up to the Arctic or somewhere and drop it where it'll never thaw out.
01:21:27Let me see the boy.
01:21:42Let me see the boy.
01:21:51Nice work, Steve.
01:21:52You okay?
01:21:53Yeah, I'm okay.
01:21:55Dave, listen, I want to...
01:21:57Well, I want to thank you for getting us out of there, you know.
01:22:00For a while, I didn't think we were going to make it.
01:22:02That makes two of us.
01:22:05What are they going to do with that thing, Dave?
01:22:06Well, the Air Force is sending a Globemaster in.
01:22:09They're flying it to the Arctic.
01:22:10It's not dead, is it?
01:22:12No, it's not.
01:22:14Just frozen.
01:22:16I don't think it can be killed, but at least we've got it stopped.
01:22:21Yeah, as long as the Arctic stays cold.
01:22:22No.
01:22:27Oh, but, you know, here's in the Arctic.
01:22:28Yeah, you're wearing it, you're wearing the ar для of the Arctic.
01:22:30I don't think we're still wearing it.
01:22:31All you know!
01:22:32I'm
